Chapter 3941: Terrifying Bone Script
Outside of Skyveil City, many cultivators on Cragpeak were looking rather depressed. “Another failure. Let’s go. We’ll try again in ten years.”
“We try to break it every ten years, but we always fail. Maybe it’s time to just give up. After all, we can’t even sense the spirit treasure formation’s danger zone.”
“We can’t give up! Have you forgotten? Even Mr. Lu came here, which proves that whoever’s inside has to be extraordinary. Why have we stayed here instead of boarding the green lotus leaf to join the war efforts? It’s all because of this spirit treasure formation and whoever’s inside. If we can just meet them, all of our efforts will have paid off.”
“Exactly. War can last hundreds or even thousands of years, which is enough time for tens or hundreds of attempts. One of them is bound to work.”
“We will never give up!”
“If you all are truly determined to not give up, then I might have something that could actually work,” a beautiful woman announced. Her eyes were like autumn water as she stared at the spirit treasure formation before them.
Her words caused those nearby to quickly ask, “Fairy Nan, what is it? Please share it.”
“We all trust you, Fairy Nan.”
The woman solemnly took out a communication device from her cosmic ring. “A few days ago, someone gave me this item and told me to throw it into this spirit treasure formation through a specific method. If it enters and remains intact, I believe that he can break the formation and help us get inside. However, if this item is destroyed, he clearly can’t be trusted.”
Everyone stared at the communication device. “What kind of person was that man?”
“A senior expert,” Fairy Nan replied, “I didn’t believe him at first, but we have no other way.”
“You didn’t believe him... Fairy Nan, was there a reason for that?” someone asked, his eyes glinting with intelligence.
Fairy Nan nodded. “Because that senior claimed that there isn’t a single spirit treasure formation in the entire Nine Odysseys Megaverse that he can’t break. He also said that Skyveil City’s three great clans are nothing more than chickens and dogs.”
Hearing her words, everyone’s hearts dropped. “A madman.”
“Mad? He’s completely insane.”
“No wonder Fairy Nan didn’t believe him.”
“No one would believe that.”
“Forget it. We’ll just try again in ten years.”
The sharp-eyed man looked at Fairy Nan. “Regardless, let’s toss the communication device in. Since you didn’t throw it away, you must hold at least a little hope, so let’s at least get an answer.”
Fairy Nan hesitated as she stared at the communication device. “I’m simply afraid that tossing it in might offend the senior inside. Doing so might be disrespectful.”
Everyone frowned. That was certainly a valid concern.
“Just forget it. We don’t want to anger a senior whom even Mr. Lu needed to pay a personal visit to, just because of some lunatic.”
“True, forget it.”
“Never trust the words of a madman.”
Fairy Nan looked over at the sharp-eyed man. “Brother Lu, what do you think?”
He briefly considered the matter and then gritted his teeth. “Throw it.”
“Consider this carefully, Brother Lu. We can’t waste decades of effort just because of some lunatic. We may as well have gone to war with Mr. Lu,” someone cautioned.
Brother Lu’s face grew solemn. “If we always behave timidly in life, how can we ever hope to accomplish anything? Mr. Lu dared to attack the Frightened Sparrow Terrace. Are we unable to even throw a communication device? To prepare for the worst case scenario, we should kneel as we throw it, to show our sincerity.”
Everyone felt the man made a valid point.
Fairy Nan said, “Brother Lu is right. Let’s all kneel to show that we mean no disrespect to the senior inside.”
“Alright then, let’s give it a try.”
“Kneel. We mean no disrespect to the senior.”
“Fairy Nan, if you please, throw it in.”
“Kneel.”
Everyone knelt, including Brother Lu and Fairy Nan.
Once everyone was on their knees, Fairy Nan took a deep breath. As she tightly held the communication device, she recalled the old senior’s words. She focused intently on the spirit treasure formation, chose her target, and then threw.
While throwing the communication device, she reinforced it with multiple strands of power so that it would land exactly at the intended location.
Then, the communication device passed through, vanishing from sight.
Fairy Nan, Brother Lu, and the others were all stunned. It really had gone into the spirit treasure formation.
The spirit treasure formation was formed out of danger zones, which meant that anything that entered it should be destroyed, unless a flaw was exploited.
Not even the people present were able to enter, let alone a communication device.
However, a communication device had been thrown through.
Fairy Nan was thrilled, and her face flushed with excitement. That senior had not lied to her; it really was possible to throw something inside.
“It actually got in! That’s great! Fairy, where is that senior? We should go pay him a visit,” someone exclaimed excitedly.
“That senior might not be as incredible as he claimed, but there’s no doubt that he’s very impressive. He might even be equal to the elder here on Cragpeak.”
“Receiving guidance from such a senior would benefit us for life...”
Fairy Nan suppressed her excitement, and then she suddenly thought of something. “If a communication device could enter like that, can we also go in?”
The area fell completely silent. People glanced at each other before quickly turning back to look at the spirit treasure formation.
Brother Lu said, “We can’t go in. After that communication device was tossed in, the spirit treasure formation’s danger zone shifted. We’ve also only been observing the surface. Inside, the formation is intricately set up, and the internal state has already been changed by that communication device. Trying to go in now would be suicide.”
“That’s true. Forget it. Let’s go find that senior instead.”
“Fairy Nan, please lead the way...”
Before long, the group followed Fairy Nan and left Cragpeak, moving in a certain direction.
Meanwhile, Li Guo was studying the communication device. He had overheard the conversations outside, and he had even heard someone mention kneeling before throwing the communication device in. He had not taken any of the comments seriously, and he had assumed that the man behind the matter was a lunatic, but that person had actually seen through Li Guo’s spirit treasure formation.
The number of people in the entire Nine Odysseys Megaverse who were capable of such a feat could be counted on one hand. Who was it? Was someone deliberately trying to stir up trouble?
The person had claimed to be able to resolve all spirit treasure formations in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, and they had also dismissed the Jue and Yu clans as nothing but weaklings. Even if Li Guo himself held Skyveil City’s three great clans in little regard, he still would not underestimate their hidden foundations. Despite that, this unknown person dared to be so dismissive of those families.
Li Guo looked out from Cragpeak, examining the group that followed Fairy Nan. He was determined to find out who was causing trouble.
At that moment, the communication device trembled.
Li Guo's eyes flickered. He accepted the call, and a display appeared, though it only showed a shadowy figure and a faint voice.
Li Guo frowned as he stared at the screen. “Who are you? You deliberately used those people to seek me out, didn’t you? State your identity.”
There was no answer, only a dim silhouette and a soft voice.
Even if there was a voice speaking, it was like a whisper in the wind, and it was barely even audible.
“Just who are you?” Li Guo bellowed. He felt a sudden chill creep over him. Given his many years of cultivation, there was no mistaking this sense of impending danger.
There was still no answer, though the shadowed figure did finally move.
Li Guo stared at the figure as it shifted again. He stared at it for a long time. Finally, his eyes flared. Is that... a rat?
A completely ordinary rat that was hiding underground. It was hidden in some manner that masked its presence. Even Li Guo had needed a good while to see it clearly.
And yet it was just an ordinary rat.
Someone was mocking him. They had used a rat and communication device to make a fool of him.
Li Guo was furious. He was the master of Deathmound’s Reversed Speech Mountain! Who dared to toy with him in such a manner?
Just as the thought crossed his mind, a sharp pain spiked inside of him. His arm, thigh, and even cheeks felt as though there were countless blades stabbing out from within his body.
There was a tearing sound as the bones in Li Guo’s left arm pierced his flesh and skin, revealing ghastly white bone. Blood dripped from the bone, staining the ground red.
At the same time, bones pierced out from the flesh of his feet as well.
Li Guo was horrified. Those were his own bones! Were they trying to break free from his body without his control?
He was abruptly reminded of the white skeleton that he had been searching so long for, the one that could wear a human body as if it was clothing, as if the human body were something to be put on or taken off.
But how could this be happening to him?
“At last we meet, Li Guo.” A voice rang from outside the spirit treasure formation.
Li Guo looked out, gritting his teeth. “Who are you?”
A man slowly approached and then stepped into the spirit treasure formation in the same manner that Lu Yin once had. He only stopped when he was in front of Li Guo.
It was none other than Brother Lu.
Li Guo stared at the man, frowning. “You’re not him.”
Brother Lu smiled, and then his entire demeanor changed, as well as his bone structure, height, and eyes. In the end, he became an old man, who looked weathered and ancient. He stared at Li Guo as though looking at an item.
“Let me introduce myself. I am Cheng Hongyuan.”
Li Guo’s pupils shrank. “Baisha Tiancheng’s younger brother? The one responsible for unlocking the skeleton recorded on the last page of the Cheng family’s secret scroll? That Cheng Hongyuan? Aren’t you dead?”
Cheng Hongyuan chuckled. “If I were dead, how could I be standing here before you? It’s been a long time, Li Guo.
“No, strictly speaking, we’ve never met. We’ve merely heard of each other.”
Li Guo stared intently at Cheng Hongyuan. “You’re not Cheng Hongyuan. You’re that skeleton itself. You’re merely wearing his skin.”
Cheng Hongyuan smiled. “Perhaps. Now, come with me.”
As he spoke, his eyes glinted sharply, and the bones in Li Guo’s left arm burst through his flesh once again, exposing a ghastly white bone that stabbed at his own torso like a blade.
Li Guo used his right hand to grab the white bone, and his blood spilled onto the earth. Beneath his feet, Cragpeak split open, and spirit treasure formation’s danger zone shot into the sky, surrounding Cheng Hongyuan.
The old man looked surprised. “Were you already prepared? Was this intended for the three great clans? You really do want to exterminate them all.”
As he spoke, he avoided the danger zone before redirecting his attention to Li Guo. Agonizing pain rang through his right arm, and his skin also tore open there as more bone threatened to break free.
Li Guo was horrified. What kind of method was this? How could something control his own bones? It was impossible! No matter how powerful Cheng Hongyuan might be, Li Guo was also a peak Dukkhan. It should be impossible to control him in such a manner.
Suddenly, he recalled the whisper he had heard through the communication device moments earlier. Could it have been that?
No matter how formidable Li Guo was, no matter how profound his research into spirit treasure formations was, if he was unable to control even his own bones, then he would be easily slain.
Cheng Hongyuan sneered. With Bone Script implanted in you, no matter how powerful you are, it’s all useless! This is a power beyond human understanding, a power that brings death! One that transcends the entire Nine Odysseys Megaverse and even surpasses the human race. Such a power... has just appeared!
This megaverse also must change.
Li Guo was the mighty master of Deathmound’s Reversed Speech Mountain, one of the top experts in spirit treasure formations in the entire Nine Odysseys Megaverse. He was a single man who was capable of threatening Skyveil City’s three great clans, and yet at this moment, he was no better than a dead dog, utterly unable to resist.
Pffft.
Li Guo spat out blood as a searing pain assaulted his skull. It felt as though the bones of his head were trying to break free. His vision turned blood red, and his thoughts failed him.
Cheng Hongyuan had rendered Li Guo completely defenseless.
Cheng Hongyuan slowly walked closer. “There’s no need to resist. The more you fight back, the closer you’ll be to death. I can offer you a different way to live. Humans... are not the only species in the cosmos.”
Li Guo crouched halfway to the ground. He did not dare to move. The more he moved, the more it felt like his head would explode. His back and limbs were all splitting open. Something monstrous was trying to break free from inside him, and it felt absolutely terrifying.
