Chapter 4039: Brilliance
Lu Yin continued to search for Luo Chan, which caused the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm to rumble with thunder, sending echoes across the Tianyuan.
In the megaverse, the droplet-shaped creature looked up. Karma again. Has the human Immortal finally arrived? Either show yourself or watch as this megaverse is destroyed.
The Immortal beast’s eyes were still feral as they continued to follow the Immortal bug. The colossal arm stretched out yet again, sweeping aside the stars and shattering countless planets. The Starfall Sea was scattered, and various tributaries of the Astral River that had spread across the Innerverse were destroyed. The slashes started at the Cosmic Sea, reached the Outerverse, and even tore away a corner of the Heavens Sect.
No one could stop the Immortal beast. It was as if the apocalypse had come for the Tianyuan.
The Origin Universe was trampled on like a toy.
While the Immortal bug’s droplets continued to strike the monster, as soon as the bug realized that it would be difficult to defeat the beast, it had slowed down its attacks. Instead, the droplet creature continued to evade and simply allowed the Immortal monster to lash out.
After half a day, the Origin Universe was in ruins. The Innerverse, Outerverse, Technocracy, Astral Beast Domain, and Neoverse all were in chaos.
Suddenly, Luo Chan reappeared beside the droplet creature, and it seemed to convey something.
Clearly delighted, the droplet creature’s antennae twitched as it tore the void open in a massive rift that it dove through.
The Immortal beast’s arm fearlessly swept into the fissure to seize its target. It remained unscathed even as the boundaries between parallel universes sliced across it.
Lu Yin stared at the rift that the droplet creature had entered. It had just gone to the Immemorial Citadel.
That was not good. The bug was trying to lure the Immortal monster to the Immemorial Citadel. If the Immemorial Citadel was destroyed and the sequence strings were snapped, then the Tianyuan would be reset.
Lu Yin’s expression fell. The Immortal beast had arrived in time to delay the droplet creature, and yet it was suddenly being used as the blade to trigger a reset.
He was still half a day away from the Tianyuan Megaverse.
The Immemorial Citadel was also in a parallel universe that was outside of the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm, which meant that Lu Yin could not see it at all.
He clenched his fists. Was everything about to be destroyed?
He had managed to buy so much time.
The Immortal beast abruptly shrank as it lunged through the rift that led to the Immemorial Citadel’s universe.
Since Lu Yin could see what lay on the other side of the rift, so could Jiang Feng and the others.
Expressions changed drastically. “Protect the Immemorial Citadel!”
Every expert in the Tianyuan started moving toward the Immemorial Citadel. “If we die, we die at its gates!”
The area surrounding the Immemorial Citadel was teeming with sequence particles. The sight of so many startled the droplet creature. “Such dense sequence particles! Is that a mirebound artifact?”
“Master, this should be this megaverse’s greatest battlefield from before. It is the endpoint of the sequence strings, which someone is keeping pinned down.” As the report was given, a finger pointed beneath the Immemorial Citadel.
The Immortal bug saw Wilderness God beneath the citadel, keeping a tight hold on the sequence strings with both hands in order to keep the megaverse stable.
When the droplet creature looked at Wilderness God, some instinct caused him to look up and meet the gaze.
There was nothing to see, as the Immortal bug was too far away.
However, the very next instant, a beast’s roar rang out, and Wilderness God’s expression changed. A primal urge to drop the sequence strings and run away welled up within him.
That roar had come from a creature that far surpassed even the strongest beast that Wilderness God knew of, which had been Emperor Wu. It also sounded familiar. Could it be...?
The Immortal beast’s arm was long enough to cross the universe as it slammed down to smash at the droplet creature.
Wilderness God was caught completely off guard. That thing? The Immortal beast that hunted us from the Consciousness Megaverse? How is it here?
At that same moment, Jiang Feng, Lu Yuan, Ancient God, and many others arrived at the Immemorial Citadel. They moved atop its walls and peered into the distance.
“What’s going on?” Wilderness God demanded.
Lu Yuan sighed. “Yellowy, we might not make it through today.”
Wilderness God’s face dropped, while Wu Tian let out a relaxed laugh. “So be it. This is our fate.”
“I refuse to believe in fate. Lassy’s power never convinced me,” Garan Zhiluo retorted coldly.
Lord Xu, Mu Shen, Ye Wu, and the Abandoned all stared at the breathtaking monster with complicated expressions. Its aura was unbearable, and yet they had no choice but to stand their ground.
This was not a war involving a single universe, nor was it the humans against the Aeternals. There was no way to avoid this war. If the Immemorial Citadel fell, everyone would die.
“Back when Lord Lu rallied us against Aeternus and we won, I thought that our future would be different. And yet here we are, about to watch our megaverse be reset while all of us die,” Lord Xu said while helplessly shaking his head.
The Abandoned’s eyes narrowed. He had absolutely no desire to know how he would die. He would rather see the megaverse be reset and try to escape. Even failing in that attempt would be better than standing on the walls of the Immemorial Citadel to await the megaverse’s reset.
It felt like they were counting down to their deaths.
A single blow from the gargantuan monster to the Immemorial Citadel would end everything.
The five members of Second Life exchanged looks as they moved to stand together. They fought the urge to flee as they looked into the distance.
Shao Chen, Qing Ping, Mu Xie, and many others lined up shoulder to shoulder.
The full might of the Tianyuan had gathered on the ramparts of the Immemorial Citadel.
Lu Qi looked up. “Little Seven, your father will go on ahead.”
The Pridebeast, the Megalith, Astral Anura, and many others were all trembling. Death loomed over them, and they did not want to die yet.
Shan Gu was seething. His teeth were clenched tightly as he glared at the droplet creature. Insects! It’s the insects again! The Third Rampart’s hatred still hasn’t been resolved, and yet the Tianyuan is about to fall.
He could not accept the situation.
Where was that card, the one that carried them away from the Third Rampart? Where was the Primordial card from his home megaverse? If you have awareness, then please appear once more.
Jiang Feng, Zhao Ran, and Lu Yuan stood at the forefront, each of them staring forward. Disaster could arrive at any moment.
In the Aevum Inch, Lu Yin closed his eyes. He was no longer able to see what was happening. The Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm only covered the Tianyuan’s main universe, and it did not reach into the Immemorial Citadel’s universe. He had no way to intervene.
He felt completely stunned. He was blind to what was happening, and the wait was pure torture.
Endure, endure. He was determined to get through this situation.
Master Qing Cao stared at Lu Yin’s back, and then he looked past the young man into the distance. Even the Immortal was hoping that they would arrive in time. They were only half a day away. If he truly has to watch the Tianyuan be reset and watch as familiar faces die, it will be an everlasting torment for this man.
To become an Immortal, it was not enough to gain strength. One’s understanding of the cosmos was even more important.
If the Tianyuan Megaverse was really reset, Lu Yin might never be able to set foot in the Immortal realm for the rest of his life.
Qing Cao inhaled deeply and also closed his eyes. He chose to wait.
...
In the Immemorial Citadel’s universe, the Immortal insect glanced at the defenders who had gathered on the citadel walls. It slipped past one of the monster’s attacks, and in the blink of an eye, arrived right in front of the Immemorial Citadel.
Everyone’s eyes shifted focus, glaring at the droplet creature with pure hatred.
“Humans, this is just a fact. I’ve refrained from attacking you myself because I fear increasing my own restrictions. However, this beast is different. Its restrictions are few, and because it was grievously wounded, it has lost much of its sense of reason and functions, only operating on instinctive hatred. It is not even aware of its restrictions. For all of you, this is the end.”
The creature’s voice rang across the universe, reaching every ear.
In the distance, the colossal Immortal beast lifted its arm up high and brought it crashing back down.
It was aiming at the droplet creature, but this attack would strike the entire Immemorial Citadel as well as the sequence strings. Effectively, the monster was targeting the entire Tianyuan.
Jiang Feng closed his eyes as he leapt forward. Lightning raged across his body as he raised his sword up high and cleaved it down.
The aura energy of the universe.
Clang.
The metallic impact rang across the universe, shaking space itself.
Jiang Feng was slammed down into the Immemorial Citadel by the beast’s overwhelming strength, and he was pushed deep into the ground.
The only thing that could be seen on the beast’s massive arm was a thin white mark from the Lord of Lightning’s sword.
The droplet creature’s antennae twitched. Its own defenses were practically paper compared to the monster’s. Beneath the Immortal realm, there were practically no attacks that could harm the creature. They were almost entirely useless.
Even the Immortal bug’s own attacks had had very little effect.
These humans had far too little knowledge of the Immortal realm.
While the monster used no special techniques, its defenses were its own special power.
As the massive arm fell, the River of Aeons suddenly appeared, shooting upwards to meet the attack.
There was no earth-shattering impact when the arm met the river, only a bit of a temporal flicker that sent a cascade of scenes across the sky.
When those images shattered, the beast let out a furious roar.
It was being held back by the power of time.
The River of Aeons lacked brute strength, but it had plenty of time.
For a moment, not even that massive arm could disperse the river.
However, the blow did reverse the river’s flow, creating chaos for countless beings in the Tianyuan. Many coughed up blood while suffering from the temporal backlash.
In the Mirari Realm, Wei Nu’s expression grew dark. “Zhao Ran, do you really intend to die with these people?”
Zhao Ran stood atop the River of Aeons, not far from the arm. As it slowly rose back up and prepared to drop down a second time, the beast was still aiming at the insect Immortal, who was holding its position above the Immemorial Citadel.
Jiang Feng and the others could not drive the monster away. It was fixed on its target, and yet that target was positioned to destroy all of humanity.
With blood leaking from the corner of her mouth, Zhao Ran lifted her oar and directed the river to block the giant arm once more.
There was a boom, and the river recoiled. Zhao Ran and her boat were flung away, and Hongyan Mavis forward to catch the woman as her skiff crashed inside the Immemorial Citadel with so much force that it almost shattered.
Roar!
The Immortal beast disrupted the River of Aeons as it lifted its arm for a third time before slamming it down.
The droplet creature slipped to the side while glancing back at the citadel. It almost seemed to be saying, Let’s see how many more times you can block that.
A single failure would doom the entire megaverse.
Beneath an arm that covered the entire sky, the Immemorial Citadel seemed tiny. If the arm fell the entire way, the city would be destroyed, and everyone in it would perish.
Eyes grew bloodshot as they stared upward.
“Everyone, a step sooner or a step later is all the same in the end. A moth to the flame can still produce a brilliant flash of light! CHARGE!” Lu Yuan roared, shooting into the sky while unleashing his strongest attack at the arm.
Beside him, Ancient God, Wu Tian, Chu Yi, and the others also attacked.
Following them, Lord Xu, Mu Shen, Sovereign Dou Sheng, Progenitor Chen, Big Sis, as well as Moon Fairy, Luo Shan, the members of Second Life, and every other top expert from the Tianyuan charged into the sky to release the strongest attacks of their entire lives.
Emperor Slayer and Su Shidao also joined the assault. No one could hold back at this moment.
Brilliance did not need to last forever. Sometimes, a single moment of glory was enough.
Dozens of attacks struck the enormous arm. It only paused slightly before continuing to drop downwards.
It seemed that the universe itself was collapsing. The arm covered everything in sight as it pressed down.
Heaven and earth collided in a clash that swept all of the sequence particles aside.
Cracks appeared in the Immemorial Citadel, spreading farther and farther out. Underground, Wilderness God clutched the sequence strings in a death grip. His skin tore and his blood soaked into the floor, but he refused to let go.
Everyone looked up as the crushing pressure flayed their skin open. Blood fell, splattering upon the citadel.
At that moment, the Immemorial Citadel was stained scarlet.
As the massive arm fell, the droplet creature stared on with wide eyes. Shan Xiao and Luo Chan were also watching unblinking focus.
Just when the arm was about to crush everyone into paste, a figure suddenly appeared above the citadel, lashing out with a foot as they shouted, “Get- lost-!”
