Chapter 4042: Home Field
Lu Yin was surprised. The beast was using a battle technique against him, and this technique could be considered a form of Lifeforce manipulation.
This meant that the monster was fully regarding Lu Yin him as an enemy of the same level.
Immortals always crushed non-Immortals with ease. That was precisely how the beast had treated the Immemorial Citadel. Only against the Immortal insect had it bothered to show any sign of thought, but even then, the beast had not immediately used Lifeforce. Instead, the beast had first probed the insect’s strength.
On the other hand, Lu Yin was an opponent who required the monster to think.
Madness and ferocity was not the same as mindlessness.
After all, the beast was still an Immortal.
Lu Yin released the Tri-Azure Sword Intent all around him, but the interconnected sparks of Lifeforce were tougher than expected. They were not just strands of Lifeforce, as they had also been infused with vast amounts of Immortal matter and the beast’s unique power; there was a hidden rhythm that was connected to the monster’s heartbeat. Is that its innate gift?
Lu Yin could not fully discern the rippling rhythm. All he knew for certain was that, even when the Tri-Azure Sword Intent was empowered with Immortal matter, it still could not break through the surrounding barricade.
The next moment, the Lifeforce barricade abruptly shrank. Its range that it encompassed compressed down rapidly, which forced Lu Yin to move closer to the beast.
He looked over at the monster as its white arms violently flailed, the sharp claws sweeping towards him and slamming him against the Lifeforce barrier.
Lu Yuan and the others cried out in shock. “Little Seven!”
Jiang Feng frowned, and there was an explosion of lightning that struck at the beast’s Lifeforce.
Lu Yuan and the others all attacked as well, but all of the attacks were useless against the Lifeforce barrier.
From above Lu Yin, the beast’s claws crashed down.
He dodged, but behind him, the barricade contracted once again, and the claws loomed even closer.
“I’m curious. With such a massive consumption of Lifeforce, just how much do you have?” Lu Yin calmly asked. He had not been harmed at all in their last exchange. “We’re on my home field.”
As soon as he finished speaking, there was a surge of water from beneath his feet. It was not ordinary water, but the River of Aeons.
In the Mirari Realm, Wei Nu’s eyes instantly turned to look at the River of Aeons, pulled to the flow.
Lu Yin’s control over the River of Aeons was becoming increasingly refined. She glanced at the distant, battered little boat, but Zhao Ran showed no indication of wanting to interfere. If she had, then regardless of how strong Lu Yin might be, the ferryman of the River of Aeons could stop him from using it.
Lightstream flickered around Lu Yin. At the moment the claws fell, Lightstream manifested as a boat, and it carried Lu Yin up the River of Aeons, causing him to vanish from the present time.
The claws struck nothing at all, and the monster’s massive eyes flared at the use of the power of time.
Lu Yin’s body appeared behind the beast. He pressed a palm against the creature, and there was a loud boom as it was forcefully driven back.
Furious, the beast spun around, its claws sweeping out.
Lu Yin dodged again. He did not evade by moving through space, but rather by moving through time. He returned to a moment that had already passed.
He had first used this method of traveling up the River of Aeons when he was chasing after Aeternus’s Ossis Ark. He had traveled to the past and changed locations there so that his location in the present would shift to match the altered past. Moving through time could only be accomplished with the power of time.
This method had not been available to him in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, as he had been too far away from the River of Aeons, which was fixed to the Tianyuan.
By returning to the Tianyuan, Lu Yin had returned to his home field.
No matter how the Immortal beast tried to block or attack, it could never touch Lu Yin.
The barricade of Lifeforce shrank until it was only covering the beast, and Lu Yin simply stepped beyond its range.
Lifeforce could not overcome time.
Lu Yin was able to move freely within the domain of time, which used concepts that the beast could never grasp.
“What else do you have? Show me,” Lu Yin taunted.
The beast’s eyes flickered, and its roars grew louder, though its eyes grew calmer. It had fully accepted Lu Yin as an opponent at the same level, and it was silently contemplating how to defeat him.
Thump, thump. The sound of the beast’s heartbeat grew increasingly loud in the silence of the Aevum Inch.
It might have sounded like Lu Yin was teasing the beast, but he no longer dared to underestimate it in the least.
Any creature that had managed to reach the Immortal realm was not to be underestimated. In the three human megaverses, countless amazing geniuses had failed to reach that realm, and yet this monster had succeeded. Why? Luck? Luck might have played a part, but it had to be much more than just that.
To truly understand someone, it was necessary to meet them on the same level. A lower creature could not fully understand a higher creature.
At the current moment, Lu Yin was seeing the beast more and more clearly. It was not simply a creature of brute strength and defense. In that case, show me what you really have.
In front of him, the white arms swept out, and claws sliced through Lu Yin’s form, but with his feet on the River of Aeons, he simply appeared at another moment in time. He completely ignored the attack.
The beast’s eyes shifted as its white arms flailed endlessly. Its Lifeforce was coming out in dense waves, and yet it showed no sign of being depleted.
Lu Yin’s expression turned grave. Wanting to win the battle by exhausting the monster’s Lifeforce would be too difficult. The gap between an Immortal and a non-Immortal was too vast. Without understanding the beast’s limits, Lu Yin could not even guess when the creature’s Lifeforce would burn out.
Even if Lu Yin believed that he was on the right path and was capable of dragging things out, the beast might not allow it.
Suddenly, the beast turned and raced back towards the Tianyuan.
At the boundary of the megaverse, Jiang Feng and the others turned pale. The beast was headed their way.
Lu Yin’s expression darkened further. As he thought, the beast was not stupid. It had realized that he was trying to protect the Tianyuan, and so it had decided to use it as bait to force Lu Yin to act. There was no need to target Lu Yin; it could simply go after Jiang Feng and the others.
The beast’s attention shifted, and its eyes locked onto Jiang Feng and the others. They were its prey.
“Qing Cao, at least block the gate!” Lu Yin shouted sharply.
From within the megaverse, Master Qing Cao stepped forward and waved his hand, closing the massive stone gate. As the beast struck out, blades of green grass grew across the door. They radiated vibrant vitality and possessed a shimmering beauty.
There was a boom as the beast’s arm slammed down in an attempt to shatter the gate, but the gate did not even budge.
The beast let out a roar in fury. It had sensed Master Qing Cao’s aura, and it knew that there was another Immortal present.
Behind the creature, Lu Yin casually slashed down with a sword strike. The beast turned around, its white arms sweeping as it targeted Lu Yin again.
He glanced toward the gate, and his eyes flashed. He took a step forward, vanishing from where he had been to appear right before the beast. The Heaven and Earth Lock surged out into space behind Lu Yin as the creature’s claws sliced through the void in front of him. He simply dodged through time and then stepped back onto the River of Aeons to return to the stone gate and release the Heaven and Earth Lock again.
Again and again, one after another.
If one Heaven and Earth Lock can’t seal you, then I’ll unleash the same technique simultaneously from multiple points in time!
He had been inspired by Chu Yuan’s Realm of Time. Years earlier, Lu Yin had relied on the Withered Bark to freeze time and stack his attacks. In the current battle, he could use the River of Aeons to appear at different moments in time and release the same attack from each location. All of them would work together to unleash an unimaginable power.
Unlike the Realm of Time, this new method did not take too long, and it also was not something that could be easily seen through.
As Lu Yin released the Heaven and Earth Lock at multiple moments in time, even if the beast could see what was happening, it could do nothing to disrupt Lu Yin’s efforts. Each of those moments in time were moments that he had reached on his own, and they were beyond the beast’s reach.
If it could target different moments in time, it would have captured the man long ago.
Lu Yin released the Heaven and Earth Lock again and again. Nine times, the technique was released. Each instance drained a tremendous amount of consciousness, and each one infused with Immortal matter.
Finally, Lu Yin stood in front of the stone gate as he stared at the beast.
It roared at him while attacking with all of its arms at once, aiming at both Lu Yin and the massive gate.
Lu Yin released his consciousness, as well as all of the Heaven and Earth Locks.
The cosmos thundered as one lock after another descended, binding the beast.
Before, it had been caught by a single lock, but this time, one lock bound each of its six arms, and three more sealed its body. At that moment, the beast was immobilized. All it could do was let out roars of fury.
Lu Yin seized the moment and moved forward. His right hand rose up, and two fingers pointed forward. One after another, countless images of him appeared, each one releasing the exact same attack; the Tri-Azure Sword Intent glowed from every pair of fingers.
One last Lu Yin moved forward, shattering each phantom of himself while absorbing every strand of sword intent from each one to attack one of the beast’s eyes.
Simultaneously, he had unleashed not one, but dozens of attacks, all of which were converging on this moment from various other moments in time. It was the same method that he had employed to use nine Heaven and Earth Locks.
In an instant, what descended was not a single attack, but dozens that had been fused into one.
The power of that fusion far exceeded any solitary attack.
Lu Yin was able to imbue a single slash of the Tre-Azure Sword Intent with dozens of specks of Immortal matter, but doing so made them nearly impossible to control without stepping into the Immortal realm himself. On top of that, even an attempt to do so would have immediately alerted the beast.
What he had done was different; the beast had no idea that Lu Yin had been preparing dozens of attacks to fuse together.
The beast roared, closing its eyes as its Lifeforce erupted.
Lu Yin’s strike fell. The sword intent sliced through the eyelid, the impact shaking the cosmos with such violence that the entire Aevum Inch seemed to tremble. The attack tore through the eyelid, through the massive eye, and then through the beast’s body. A wound that continued into a glowing scar across the cosmos appeared.
The beast howled, its one remaining eye gaining a savage look as it grew bloodshot. Lifeforce roiled and churned within the beast.
Crack, crack, crack.
The Heaven and Earth Locks broke, one after another.
Lu Yin’s expression changed, and he quickly pulled back.
The Heaven and Earth Locks broke?
It turned out that he had still been underestimating the monster’s strength.
The beast’s arms writhed, and the Lifeforce-forged limbs vanished as it pulled that energy back into its body.
Lu Yin frowned. Once more, the beast had only one arm. But instead of relief, he felt a growing sense of unease.
The beast was changing once again.
Behind the stone gate, Master Qing Cao silently watched the battle. “Forcing an Immortal creature to the brink... truly impressive. Do you actually intend to kill such a being?”
On the other side of the gate, Lu Yin grew increasingly nervous as he saw the beast’s feral gaze.
Blinding one eye had driven the beast utterly insane.
Its remaining eye turned crimson as veins spread across it, and its body began to swell once more. All of its Lifeforce had been fully retracted.
Lu Yin stepped forward again and unleashed the Tri-Azure Sword Intent.
Without Lifeforce to shield it, there was no doubt that the beast’s defenses were weaker. Lu Yin needed to see what sort of trump cards the monster had left.
Thump, thump, thump...
The sound of a heartbeat grew louder and louder.
It was from the Immortal beast.
