Chapter 4048: War
Half a month later, Lu Yin once again peered into the Aevum Inch. For the Nest civilization, speed meant nothing. They could reach the Nine Odysseys Megaverse in a single instant.
Lu Yin wanted to buy time for the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. Since the Spirit Nidus already had karmic walls, he could directly make use of them.
Boom!
The Spirit Nidus shuddered, and all of the spirit threads running through it quivered.
In the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, a pair of eyes opened. “Are the spirit threads down there stirring?”
She hurried to contact Greater Sancte Awe Gate.
Xing Fan had felt the disturbance. When she had faced Shan Xiao and been attacked by her cards, Xing Fan had been forced to expel her spirit seed and escape. She had since used Seed Transfusion to return to the level of a peak Dukkhan, and she had even learned the Nirvana Tree Path from Lu Yin on the green lotus leaf.
Lu Yin had seen her there, but he had long since stopped holding any sort of grudge against her.
Xing Fan was currently far weaker than when she had become a peak Dukkhan through her own efforts, but the Nirvana Tree Path had offered her another path.
She could still continue cultivating and progressing.
Her hatred for Lu Yin had transformed into fear. She no longer even thought of opposing him.
The person capable of creating the Nirvana Tree Path exceeded her comprehension.
On the Frightened Sparrow Terrace, Awe Gate stared out at the stars. “You want to use the Spirit Nidus’s karmic walls to protect both the Nine Odysseys Megaverse and the Spirit Nidus? Unnecessary. The Nine Odysseys Megaverse does not pin its hopes on others. We have our dignity. Your desire to help is enough by itself.
“Those bugs won’t take the same path twice.”
Lu Yin’s expression grew complicated. Won’t take the same path twice? Fair enough.
He had used a karmic wall to stall the Nest civilization’s assault on the Tianyuan for half a year. With their current goal being the destruction of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, how could they be delayed again when there were two Immortal Verdant Sages moving with the horde?
The Nest civilization was not stupid.
His attempt to repeat the previous strategy would only waste the karmic wall.
“Lord Lu, if the Nine Odysseys Megaverse falls, humanity will be extinguished in both the Nine Odysseys Megaverse and the Spirit Nidus. Tianyuan will be our last sanctuary. Guard our civilization and ensure its legacy. That will honor the Nine Odysseys’ support,” Awe Gate said calmly.
She looked down over the land. “Destroy every invader and preserve humanity’s eternal legacy.”
“Destroy every invader and preserve humanity’s eternal legacy.”
“Destroy every invader and preserve humanity’s eternal legacy.”
...
Countless voices echoed across the Nine Odysseys Megaverse.
Through the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm, even the insects detected the commotion.
The humanoid Verdant Sage glanced at the shroud of karma. “What a fierce desire to do battle. You want a decisive battle? We shall grant it to you. Human civilization should have been wiped out long ago.”
Luo Chan then appeared. In an instant, the two Immortal Verdant Sages vanished with the bug and reappeared past the Nine Odysseys Megaverse.
Awe Gate spotted the two Immortal bugs and stepped forward to confront them.
Three Immortals stood outside the Nine Odysseys Megaverse.
Lu Yin watched. A battle between Immortals was about to begin. It was a fight to decide whether the Nine Odysseys Megaverse would survive.
Inside the megaverse, countless people held their breath while staring up past the stars. This would be their first time witnessing a clash between Immortals. This was a battle between beings who toyed with universes, creatures who stood at the pinnacle of all life.
“Which of you is the Immortal Lord?” Awe Gate asked softly. There was not even a hint of killing intent in her voice. Instead, what lurked beneath that gentleness was a barely contained excitement.
She had suppressed herself for far too long. Ever since she had stepped into the Immortal realm, her karmic chain had limited her every move.
For the greater good, she had preserved the number of attacks that she released. To protect the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, she had restrained herself for far too long.
At this moment, she could no longer reign in her battle lust.
The humanoid Verdant Sage sized the woman up. “Are you the master of this human civilization?”
Awe Gate met the being’s gaze. “Are you the Immortal Lord?”
“Correct.” The humanoid Verdant Sage then pointed to the droplet creature. “As is that one.”
Awe Gate frowned. “What does that mean?”
The humanoid Immortal gave a faint smile. Their refined features defied any notions of gender, though it was quite striking. It bore both feminine allure and masculine vigor. “Both of us are the Immortal Lord, ruler of the Nest civilization. Human, I would hear your name.”
“Awe Gate.”
“Awe Gate? That’s not a very feminine name.”
“It seems that you have a good understanding of humanity.”
“Quite good. We once annihilated a branch of your human civilization.”
Awe Gate’s eyes grew frigid. “The Third Rampart?”
Still smiling, the humanoid Verdant Sage observed the woman. “I can feel your anger. It’s the same as those from the Third Rampart when their civilization fell. Are humans really so easily enraged?”
Awe Gate sneered. “You erased a human civilization and think that I shouldn’t be angry about it?”
The humanoid Verdant Sage shook their head. “Perhaps their deaths will herald a brighter future. Everything in the cosmos ultimately belongs to the cosmos itself, never to any single civilization. Human or Nest, destruction is merely the beginning of rebirth, so why give in to anger?”
Awe Gate laughed, though the sound was laced with mockery and bloodlust. “What a farce! By that logic, should we just bare our necks for your blade? Why don’t you bugs die instead? Perhaps in the future, you’ll become a part of humanity. Better than your current disgusting state.”
The humanoid Immortal raised a hand to point past Awe Gate. “I am honored to possess a human form. Your proposal is not a bad one. Should the Nest civilization one day be destroyed, I hope to join humanity—assuming that your civilization still exists.”
As those words were spoken, the droplet creature’s antennae twitched, and torrents of water shot towards Awe Gate.
Simultaneously, the universe froze, and then everything changed. All across the Aevum Inch and the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, space was filled with droplets that merged to form rivers. Everything else was dissolved into nothingness.
To all who were watching, it looked as though the universe was being irrigated by the droplets, as though the entire cosmos was one vast drop of water.
Awe Gate’s eyes flared, and she fully released her blood lust. An unmatched, terrifying pressure warped space, vaporizing the droplets bit by bit as she shot towards the droplet creature and the humanoid Verdant Sage.
The humanoid bug braced itself and fell back.
In front of the droplet creature, rivers of water converged to shoot at Awe Gate.
She raised a hand.
Boom!
The cosmos trembled.
Boom!
The Mother Tree shook.
Boom!
The entire Nine Odysseys Megaverse quivered.
Endless darkness erupted from her hand, swelling in an instant to engulf the droplet creature.
Space bent as it was devoured.
To countless people within the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, the cosmos underwent yet another change. The universe warped, as though it was being swallowed by pure darkness. It was a rift.
“Is that Heartrift?” someone gasped.
The sight caused many to remember Awe Gate’s legends.
She was a woman who had fought across heaven and earth, created a list of the strongest to challenge them all, waged a decisive battle within the Mindscape Megaverse, ascended into divinity upon the Jade Terrace, and established the Frightened Sparrow Terrace that shook even the Immortal realm.
Her techniques and abilities had faded from memory, but the legend of her slaying the strongest being in the Mindscape Megaverse at the bottom of the Deep Rift Universe had never been forgotten.
Before that, she had been strong enough to contend against anyone in the megaverse. After all, she had commanded the power of the Rift of Suffering itself.
Explosions repeatedly rang out across the sky, causing the entire Nine Odysseys Megaverse to sway.
More and more dark rifts appeared, opening up one after another until there were nine. It was the Rift of Suffering’s Heartrift Technique’s Nine-Rift realm of mastery.
But that was not the end, as more and more rifts appeared, shattering the recorded limit: ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen... Finally, fifteen rifts appeared.
No one had been counting, but the number fifteen seemed to be branded into everyone’s mind. The number was impossibly vivid.
Fifteen rifts.
The Rift of Suffering had never recorded such mastery of their Heartrift Technique before. Previously, the peak of mastery had only ever been nine rifts.
As the terror of fifteen rifts erupted, the Nine Odysseys Megaverse bore witness to the power, as did Lu Yin.
This was a power that devoured minds and could swallow a universe.
The power caused the stars to flicker and the megaverse to quake. Even the massive Mother Tree seemed small before the expanding rifts.
To toy with the cosmos as though it was only an inch, to consume that endless distance, subduing all beneath the Heartrift Technique; this was the terrifying power that Awe Gate unveiled.
The droplet creature’s surface boiled as the rifts devoured layer after layer of water. Its eyes remained fixed on Awe Gate as it stared on in disbelief. How was this human woman so strong? What a dreadful explosion of power.
Countless droplets of water gathered on its surface, fusing with Immortal matter to create a barrier.
Immortal matter flared within the rifts as well. Awe Gate advanced. Step by step, she approached the droplet creature. Her hand rose, and she grabbed at the creature.
They were both Immortals, and yet she was at a crushing advantage.
The difference in power stunned both the insects and the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. Lu Yin was dumbfounded.
He had never imagined that Awe Gate could erupt with such ferocity. Even when using the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm, he had never sensed anything this terrifying.
Of course. This was Awe Gate.
She was famous for battle.
She had not ascended through quiet enlightenment, but rather through combat. She had fought across the megaverse, gone to war with the Nine Odysseys, battled against the Mindscape Megaverse, and explored the Aevum Inch.
Every step that she took had been propelled by a desire to fight.
She was the same kind of person as Lu Yin.
No wonder she had not been able to restrain herself. No wonder she had actually regretted breaking through to the Immortal realm too soon.
Who would ever choose to delay becoming an Immortal?
Awe Gate would have.
That was Awe Gate, a warrior whose realm prevented her from fulfilling her desire to fight.
Now that the dam had burst, her power left everyone shaken.
If she fought the Immortal monster, it would have likely fled with its tail between its legs, if it could even escape.
Within the rifts that had opened up above the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, Awe Gate radiated a terrifying aura. The absolute darkness of the rifts made her look like a living nightmare. Every step she took devoured more of the droplet creature. Its antennae quivered. It felt danger, unparalleled danger, and it was forced to retreat.
The humanoid Verdant Sage appeared in front of the droplet creature, awe and caution in their eyes as they faced Awe Gate. Within this rift, they could feel their power being sapped away. Even its Immortal matter was not enough to maintain a barrier. The laws that both it and the droplet creature had aligned with were beginning to blur.
This human was terrifyingly strong. How could the human civilization have produced such a creature?
Was the truth as she had implied? That humans found it harder to reach the Immortal realm, but once they succeeded, their strength became horrifying?
Awe Gate raised both of her hands and pressed them down. The rifts compressed, twisting and warping the cosmos with unbelievable force as she tried to smother both the droplet creature and the humanoid Verdant Sage with unending pressure.
The humanoid Verdant Sage lifted a hand, causing a card to spin above its palm for a moment before shooting towards Awe Gate.
