Chapter 4054: The Fourth Greater Sancte

Chapter 4054: The Fourth Greater Sancte

As the karmic wall appeared and the Great Master and the others moved to block the massive droplet, the droplet-shaped creature suddenly vanished. It then reappeared beside the card that had swallowed Greater Sancte Awe Gate. After that, the card itself disappeared.

Everything had happened in a mere moment. No one had time to react.

Lu Yin saw what had happened, and his heart sank. Not good!

They had all been duped. This was the humanoid Verdant Sage’s true goal. They had feigned an attack on the Mother Tree so that Luo Chan could take them away. If Luo Chan brought the two Immortals back to the Nest civilization, Greater Sancte Awe Gate would be facing more than just the humanoid Verdant Sage and the droplet creature; she would also face the Immortal Lord.

Even as the thought took form in Lu Yin’s mind, the birds in the Frightened Sparrow Terrace cried out as the massive gate there shuddered. It transformed into a streak of light that shot toward a specific point in the Aevum Inch.

Lu Yin hurried to follow the light through the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm.

He could never hope to match the light’s speed with physical movement, but his perception could travel through the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm far faster than even a green lotus leaf.

In a very distant point in the Aevum Inch, Luo Chan clutched the card, trying to escape. However, the bug was caught by the massive gate. A second, illusory gate had appeared above it, fencing in an area of space.

The two gates were connected like a taut cord.

Cracks ran through the card. Helpless, Luo Chan let it go.

Greater Sancte Awe Gate burst free, her weapon thrusting forward. She was not aiming at either of the Immortal Verdant Sages, but rather at Luo Chan. The humanoid Verdant Sage’s hand snatched out to block the attack, only for a blade to tear their hand open. “What’s going on?”

Luo Chan grimly reported, “I can’t take her away. Her power is anchored to this megaverse, and it’s tethering us here.”

Lu Yin saw this exchange, and he let out a breath of relief.

This was good, as it meant that the Greater Sancte could not be taken away. Luo Chan had reached the limit of Awe Gate’s gates, which was half a unit in any direction from the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. The massive gate was restraining them. Was that gate the manifestation of the Sancte Awe Gate’s own unseen world?

When the shadow of the blue sword attacked the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, Awe Gate had used the gate’s power to block the attack. She might have done so not because she had been personally unable to block the attack, but rather because she had used her gate to do or block something.

Luo Chan had underestimated the Immortal. No one at that level could be easily handled.

Did the bugs want to abduct Awe Gate so that they could surround and kill her? That would be much too difficult.

The Greater Sancte drew her weapon back, her eyes locked onto Luo Chan. It was the only one of the four Insect Lords still alive, and it was also the one that they needed to eliminate the most. Luo Chan’s death would almost entirely eliminate the threat that the Nest civilization posed to humanity.

The bug had to die.

Upon sensing the woman’s killing intent, Luo Chan slipped behind the humanoid Verdant Sage, ready to teleport away.

The humanoid Verdant Sage sighed. “Human, this battle is over. You can’t keep us here, and we cannot kill you. Let things end here.”

The Greater Sancte frowned. “You invaded the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, slaughtered countless, and now you think that you can just walk away?”

The Verdant Sage replied, “If you insist on fighting, then we can oblige. Let’s see if you can live through this. Do you truly believe that you can beat the two of us on your own?

“Even if you do kill us, will you still be able to do anything after that? Look at your karmic chain.”

Awe Gate’s eyes flickered, and her killing intent diminished significantly.

It was true; she could not press the attack against these two Immortals. What if another Immortal bug arrived? No one could guarantee that it would not happen.

Besides, there was someone from Obscura still hiding within the Nine Odysseys Megaverse and was another colossal threat. That blue sword was able to instantly kill anyone it targeted. Without Awe Gate around to restrain it, it would wreak utter disaster.

With that, her decision was made.

The humanoid Verdant Sage smiled. “I understand your desire for vengeance, but for you to destroy our civilization? That is simply impossible. We are the Immortal Lord, or at least a part of them, anyways. The complete Immortal Lord is beyond your imagination. We are leaving now.”

They glanced at Luo Chan, who was prepared to take the two Immortal insects away.

Suddenly, outer space shook. Karma fell, forming a vast circle that swept in from the distance to surround the humanoid Verdant Sage, the droplet creature, and even Greater Sancte Awe Gate.

The humanoid Verdant Sage’s expression hardened. “What is this? Human, do you truly desire a fight to the death?”

Awe Gate was equally bewildered, and she looked up. What is Lu Yin doing?

“There are many civilizations throughout the cosmos. Few give rise to an Immortal, but should you encounter even one such civilization while you are unable to act, your civilization will meet its end. If you insist on fighting to the death, then are you prepared to see your civilization fall?” The humanoid Verdant Sage’s elegant features were still stained with blood.

Awe Gate stared off into the darkness of the Aevum Inch. Mr. Lu, what are you trying to do?

Still in the Tianyuan, Lu Yin clenched his fists. Hold them back, Greater Sancte Awe Gate! Just delay them. It doesn’t need to be for long.

“Step aside,” the humanoid Verdant Sage demanded. They did not attack Greater Sancte Awe Gate, but they did prepare to break past the karmic wall.

It was not too difficult for an Immortal to break through the karmic wall, and as soon as the barrier was broken, Luo Chan could teleport all of the insects away.

Greater Sancte Awe Gate did not know why Lu Yin had trapped them, but since he had, she would not hesitate. She thrust her weapon at the humanoid Verdant Sage. “You will stay here.”

The droplet creature shot towards her.

“Human, you are courting death! You are dooming your own civilization!”

“Didn’t you say that I couldn’t beat both of you at once? Let’s test that out.”

“You are mad!”

Within the encirclement of karma, Greater Sancte Awe Gate fought against both the humanoid Verdant Sage and the droplet creature. Immortal matter flooded the area as Lifeforce erupted. Rifts clashed against rivers of droplets again and again. All that Luo Chan could do was continue dodging.

Each time the humanoid Verdant Sage moved to break through the karmic wall, Awe Gate would block them.

She would eventually discover Lu Yin’s intentions. Eliminating any one of the three trapped insects would greatly ease the burden on humanity.

Lu Yin watched anxiously. Not yet? Hurry! Faster, faster...

Bang.

Greater Sancte Awe Gate and the humanoid Verdant Sage both reeled at the same time. The droplet creature slammed into the woman’s shoulder, nearly knocking her weapon free. She reversed the stroke of her weapon, and an unseen force tore open a wound on the droplet creature.

Emperor’s Gaze appeared, and the humanoid Verdant Sage shoved the power of the Third Rampart in a downward press.

Greater Sancte Awe Gate raised her weapon to block the attack, but behind her, a colossal droplet surged towards her at the same time that a river fell from above in a terrifying cascade.

She let go of her weapon and pointed forward. Gates gathered all around her. The river fell from the sky, battering her, but it was unable to move her. The power of the Third Rampart swept in from the side, completely shattering her weapon.

The unrelenting assault pushed Greater Sancte Awe Gate to her limits, though the humanoid Verdant Sage and the droplet creature barely fared any better.

Luo Chan cowered in the corners. It did not dare to stop moving for even a moment, out of fear of being instantly annihilated.

In the Tianyuan, Lu Yin’s eyes abruptly snapped open. It’s time.

Within the karmic wall, Greater Sancte Awe Gate coughed up blood. Her rifts gathered between her hands as she attacked.

Across from her, the humanoid Verdant Sage and the droplet creature were also going all out.

Suddenly, both Immortal bugs turned and looked in the same direction. There, a figure was striding through the darkness of the Aevum Inch, and they barreled into the karmic wall with a power that everyone present was all too familiar with: Heartrift.

Greater Sancte Awe Gate’s face lit up with joy.

The humanoid Verdant Sage and the droplet creature were horrified; another human Immortal had appeared!

The karmic wall broke. The newcomer’s Heartrift grabbed at the droplet, but then midway, it veered towards Luo Chan. The bug jolted in terror. Why me?

The attack missed, and the newcomer stared. Gone?

“Attack now!” Greater Sancte Awe Gate barked, even while throwing a palmstrike at the droplet creature.

The newcomer also redirected his attack back towards the Immortal bug.

The humanoid Verdant Sage flung the Emperor’s Gaze card out. The colossal figure appeared, and two beams shot out at the two attacking rifts.

The beams collided with the rifts, only to be crushed. Still, the heartbeat of time that it had bought was enough. Luo Chan reappeared and whisked away both the humanoid Verdant Sage and the droplet creature.

The left behind card was pulverized by a rift.

The karma that surrounded the area dissolved.

All that remained was the emptiness of the Aevum Inch.

In the Tianyuan, Lu Yin let out a breath as he stopped observing the location. He massaged his brow. It still had not worked.

When his perception chased after the gate with the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm, Lu Yin had sensed a new Immortal’s presence. He had initially believed them to be another enemy, but then he had recognized the familiar feeling of the Heartrift. It was Ku Deng.

That was why Lu Yin had trapped the insects with Awe Gate, hoping that Ku Deng would be able to join with the Greater Sancte to slay the bugs.

However, it had been impossible for Lu Yin to communicate with Ku Deng, and the man had never fought against the Nest civilization before. He had simply shattered the karmic wall, which had given Luo Chan access to the Aevum Inch, and the bug had teleported away, dodging the man’s attack.

Ku Deng had targeted Luo Chan simply because that bug had seemed like it would be the easiest to kill. After all, Luo Chan had been the only non-Immortal present. That man was completely unaware of the fact that he had targeted the opponent that was actually the hardest to kill.

Luo Chan had escaped, and Ku Deng had not been able to stop it. When it reappeared, it had managed to take the two Immortal Verdant Sages away as well. Neither Greater Sancte Awe Gate nor Ku Deng had been able to prevent that. As long as Luo Chan was connected to the Aevum Inch, it was able to determine the end of the battle on its own.

It was a pity. Despite pushing herself to her limits, Greater Sancte Awe Gate had failed to take down a single foe.

The only consolation was the fact that the Nest civilization had been devastated. Shan Xiao was dead, and both the humanoid Verdant Sage’s card and Shan Xiao’s cards had been destroyed. The bugs had suffered truly heavy losses.

Even if they returned for another attack, it would be much later.

Also, the Nine Odysseys Megaverse had gained another Immortal in Ku Deng.

It seemed that there was no need for the megaverse to worry about another attack.

If Greater Sancti Green Lotus and Blood Tower returned, the Nest civilization’s return would be pure suicide.

The only variables were the true strength of the Immortal Lord, and Obscura’s possible interference.

Regardless, Greater Sancte Ku Deng’s ascension had greatly improved humanity’s overall power.

Lu Yin disconnected his Karmic Dao and swayed on his feet, nearly collapsing.

He had used a small amount of karma to leverage vast forces, but even so, moving the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm had drained him. He needed to rest.

Outside of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, Greater Sancte Awe Gate studied Ku Deng for a time before finally relaxing. “You’ve succeeded.”

Ku Deng had the appearance of an old man with kind eyes. He looked much older and more weathered than Awe Gate, especially with his peculiar eyes that gave the impression of twin lamp wicks.

“It’s been a long time,” Ku Deng replied.

She nodded. “It has indeed. I didn’t expect you to actually have a breakthrough in the Mindscape Megaverse. Congratulations... to the Nine Odysseys Megaverse’s fourth Greater Sancte.”

Facing Awe Gate, Ku Deng bowed. “Without your warning, I would have died in failure, unable to see my path. You have my thanks, Greater Sancte Awe Gate.”

She waved his gratitude away. “That was your own ability. That path suits you better than it does me.”

She turned and looked off to the distance. “Who knows when those bugs will return.”

Ku Deng had a puzzled expression on his face, but Greater Sancte Awe Gate proceeded to recount all that had recently transpired in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. Ku Deng was repeatedly stunned by all he learned.
