Chapter 4182: Going Home

Chapter 4182: Going Home

Greater Sancte Blood Tower let out an emotional sigh. “To be honest, what happened in your home megaverse might have been low level, but the manner in which things were executed was truly brilliant. You were never irreconcilable enemies with each other. The Great Sovereign died to deal with Yong Heng, and he is someone of actual importance.

“Bai Xian'er came back from the dead, yet she was still willing to merge with the main stream of the River of Aeons for your sake. That takes powerful emotions. It’s a pity that you two probably won’t live to meet again.”

The man stared at the River of Aeons in an absentminded manner. “In life, it’s rare to meet a woman who’s willing to sacrifice herself for you.”

Lu Yin’s gaze turned complicated. Sacrifice herself for me?

Bai Xian'er really had sacrificed herself for Lu Yin, and they would never meet again.

Everything that had happened felt like a dream.

Still, her smiling face was something that he would never be able to forget.

Time did not flow in the Mirari Realm, yet Lu Yin still counted the days. 177 days had passed since the phenomenon of Mister Mu resonating with a cosmic law had faded away. On the 178th day, the man suddenly spat out blood, which stained his cauldron red.

Lu Yin was horrified. “Master!”

Within the cauldron, Mister Mu opened his eyes, a helpless expression on his face. His face was pale, and his hair turned ashen. His entire body seemed to be growing dim and lifeless. Lifeforce poured out of him in a flood, as though he had reached the end of his life.

Lu Yin trembled. It was all over. His master had failed his breakthrough.

Greater Sancte Blood Tower closed his eyes. He still failed.

While the chances of success had always been miniscule, a River of Aeons had been sacrificed. That cost was so great that it made this particular failure harder to accept.

In the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, in the Sea of Karma, Greater Sancte Green Lotus let out a sigh. He had seen such scenes more than once. In the history of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, there was no shortage of geniuses who had attempted to break through to the Immortal realm on their own, but all had failed. Mister Mu’s attempt had merely been louder and costlier than most. Even so, no one could prevent his failure.

The price for failing to break into the Immortal realm was death. Throughout all the ages, nearly everyone who failed their breakthrough had died, with few exceptions.

Given that Mister Mu had failed, the first thing Lu Yin thought of was that the man would die. He did not want his master to die. Mister Mu could not die.

“Master...” At the moment, Lu Yin had no words. He could only stand on the riverbank, dazed while his heart filled with anxiety and fear. He was terrified that Mister Mu would die. For so long, Mister Mu had served as Lu Yin’s pillar. Whenever he encountered an impassable barrier in his cultivation, Mister Mu had resolved it. The man had taught Lu Yin, saved him numerous times, and illuminated his path forward.

Without Mister Mu, there would be no Lu Yin.

Lu Yin had always believed his determination to be strong enough to endure every hardship on his own. It was only at this moment that he realized that Mister Mu had always been his true support. Lu Yin was also able to feel helpless and desperate, but thankfully, he had always had his master. Despite not being an Immortal himself, Mister Mu had given Lu Yin a greater sense of security than any Immortal ever could.

Master!

Inside the cauldron, Mister Mu showed a conflicted expression. “This breakthrough was too costly, and yet I still failed. I’m truly sorry.”

He was not apologizing to Lu Yin, but to Greater Sancte Blood Tower.

Mister Mu did not personally know Blood Tower, but he did know that the Immortal had sacrificed a River of Aeons.

“Master, does it have to end in failure? Keep trying! You’ll definitely overcome Dukkha!” Lu Yin shouted.

Mister Mu helplessly looked up at the sky. "Years pass by. Life is both fleeting and endless. There is nothing that we can do. Human power is not capable of overcoming fate. The outcome of many things has already been predetermined. There is no need to force it.

“Do you remember what I told you? Should I fail, let everything from the past fade to nothing. Don’t ask about my past, and don’t cling to old matters. Just protect the humans of this megaverse. Understand?”

After speaking, Mister Mu looked a bit older. His hair continued to grow whiter and whiter, and the dry, bloodless look to his skin hinted that he had entered the last stretch of life. He was visibly inching closer and closer to death.

Lu Yin had never seen Mister Mu in such a state. It was like he was seeing a towering mountain collapse. The man had already reached the final step of his breakthrough, so why did he still fail?

Why was it so impossible to overcome Dukkha?

“Master, keep trying! Please, try again!” Lu Yin shouted.

Mister Mu shook his head weakly. “Child, I was lucky to have accepted you as my disciple. Take good care of your senior brothers and sisters.

“So many years have passed, and it’s finally time for me to go see them again. My life should have ended long ago. There is no place for me on the boat of the future.”

Lu Yin was unwilling to accept this outcome. Their human civilization had grown powerful. He had even acquired the innate gift of teleportation, which was an absolute means sufficient to make any fishing civilization wary of humanity. Lu Yin had achieved everything. The once-lofty High Seraph had become like an ant before him. Even the Spirit Nidus as a whole needed to consider Lu Yin’s opinions, and Master Qing Cao felt tremendous pressure when facing the younger man. Lu Yin had accomplished everything.

He had too many things that he still needed to tell his master: complaints, boasts, and everything else. He wanted his master to sit quietly and listen, hearing his disciple recount his travels throughout the cosmos.

In the past, no matter how outstanding Lu Yin had become, Mister Mu had always remained calm and unruffled. Lu Yin wanted to see approval in his master’s eyes. He longed to show off, like a child.

He did not want to say farewell without any conversation at all, let alone say goodbye forever.

Greater Sancte Green Lotus voice suddenly rang out. “Your master’s Dukkha is not in the Tianyuan, nor even in this human civilization. It lies in his own megaverse. If he can return there, he may still have a chance to succeed.”

When Lu Yin heard this, his head snapped up and his eyes flared wide. “Really?”

Greater Sancte Green Lotus was looking into the Mirari Realm in the Tianyuan Megaverse. “That depends entirely on whether he can endure until then.”

Lu Yin’s breathing quickened as he looked at Mister Mu. “Master, do you still remember that overwhelming sea of silver?”

Mister Mu twitched, and his eyes grew large as he turned to stare at Lu Yin. “Mu Zhu told you?”

Lu Yin shook his head. “I saw the Hui-Silver Sky Army for myself. They’ve been searching the Aevum Inch for your trail. They’ve imprisoned people from your megaverse. They didn’t reset it, but have rather been raising the people there like livestock.”

Mister Mu slowly clenched a fist, bloodlust filling his eyes. It was a rare reaction from him.

No matter how fierce the wars in the Tianyuan may have been, he had remained calm even during the final battle at the Immemorial Citadel. But as soon as he heard about the Hui-Silver Sky Army, an overwhelming killing intent stirred within the man.

Seeing the rate at which Lifeforce was draining from Mister Mu diminish, Lu Yin took a stone out from his cosmic ring and held it up. “Master, look at this.”

Mister Mu looked over and shuddered. In an instant, his pale face flushed red. His rage and bloodlust were impossible to miss.

There were nine human heads etched onto the stone. They were the faces of Mu Zhu’s seniors, Mister Mu’s junior brothers.

The nine had willingly sacrificed themselves in the end so that Mister Mu and Mu Zhu could escape.

They were the same people that Mister Mu had mentioned wanting to finally go see.

He had told Lu Yin to let go of the past and to let old grudges disappear, but how could Mister Mu himself let go? As he stared at those nine faces, his grief, hatred, and killing intent boiled over.

“This is a stone that the Hui-Silver Sky Army left in the Aevum Inch!. They’ve never given up on finding you, Master! Sooner or later, they’ll come for you!” Lu Yin shouted.

Mister Mu stared at the stone and the faces on it. Finally, he closed his eyes in agony. “I can’t break through here. My Dukkha doesn’t lie in this place.”

“Then we’ll go to your megaverse, Master. I’ll take you home,” Lu Yin declared.

Mister Mu gave Lu Yin a blank stare. “Take me home?”

“Yes, you’ll go home.”

“Do you know where my home is?”

“I do. At the speed that Immortals can travel, it’s twenty years away. But I’ve thought of a way that might let us reach it in just a few years. If we’re lucky, we might arrive even faster.”

Mister Mu was shocked to learn that Lu Yin had already located his native megaverse, but this was not the time to ask how. “The Hui-Silver Sky Army is there.”

Bloodlust blossomed in Lu Yin's own eyes. "Then we’ll fight and kill. Let's see if the Hui-Silver Sky Army can stop me! Master, only by living can we get revenge. All of my seniors are watching you."

Mister Mu looked back at the stone and took a deep breath. “It’s your decision. If I can return to my homeland, I will certainly become an Immortal.”

Lu Yin was thrilled. He leapt forward and grabbed the cauldron. The nine cauldrons instantly merged back into one, with Mister Mu inside it. He slowly closed his eyes.

Carrying the cauldron, Lu Yin teleported to the Nine Odysseys Megaverse and arrived before the massive Awe Gate. The Greater Sancte was already there waiting for him.

Before Lu Yin could say a word, Greater Sancte Awe Gate said, “I alone can go with you. The speed at which I can launch Awecloud is faster than an Immortal’s pace. By attaching a pathfinding stone to it, we can reduce the time we need to reach that megaverse.”

That was the exact method that Lu Yin had thought of.

By launching Awecloud ahead with a pathfinding stone attached to the spear, it would allow Lu Yin to see far ahead and teleport to that location. It was not a method that could be used long-term, but it could be saved for emergencies. It would drain Greater Sancte Awe Gate terribly, since she would need to launch Awecloud at full strength every single time.

In addition to Greater Sancte Awe Gate, there was one more who had to be taken along.

Kang Tian stared at Lu Yin, who had suddenly appeared before the snail, accompanied by Greater Sancte Awe Gate and... a cauldron?

Is this the aura of the powerhouse who was attempting a breakthrough just now? But that breakthrough failed. The snail did not know whether it should feel regret or relief.

But why are they looking for me?

Lu Yin laid one hand on Kang Tian. “Come with us.”

With that, they all simply vanished.

In the Sea of Karma, Greater Sancte Green Lotus stared off into the distance. He hoped that this journey would proceed smoothly.

In addition to Mister Mu’s attempt to break into the Immortal realm, they would also have to face the Hui-Silver Sky Army.

There was no question that Hui was at least as strong as Lan Meng. Awe Gate was barely able to fight against Lan Meng, so if another member of Obscura appeared, there would be grave trouble. Fortunately, Lu Yin was able to teleport, so even if victory was impossible, retreat would always be an option.

Between the cosmic law of Dominion and the fact that he could merge with the will of his megaverse, Mister Mu would be far from an ordinary Immortal, should he break through.

If Green Lotus did not have to personally guard the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm, it would have been better for him to make the trip.

The biggest concern was still the hidden member of Obscura.

While others might not know about Mister Mu’s attempted breakthrough, that hidden member of Obscura was in the Tianyuan Megaverse. It was impossible for them to be unaware of this development.

If Greater Sancte Green Lotus joined the trip to Mister Mu’s megaverse and Obscura’s hidden powerhouse struck, human civilization would struggle to survive.

That really was the worst part; no matter what humanity did, someone else always knew about it.

It was imperative that they force that hidden Immortal out so that they could secure humanity and clean out the foreign spies. Only then would they be free to do whatever they wished.

...

In the Aevum Inch, Lu Yin carried Greater Sancte Awe Gate and the others directly out of the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm. Awe Gate held Awecloud while her Heartrift Power transformed into strength. The woman spun, energy twining around Awecloud as she fiercely thrust it forward. The spear vanished in an instant.

The fact that Awecloud could be launched faster than an Immortal could travel was perfectly normal. It was no different from how a person could throw a stone faster than they could run.

Lu Yin could sense the speed at which the pathfinding stone moved with Awecloud; the spear was traveling nearly ten times faster than a green lotus leaf.
