Star Odyssey

Chapter 4191: Memorial Rites

Chapter 4191: Memorial Rites

The star of divine energy was frozen in place. It was held in place by a force formed when Mister Mu merged his cosmic law with the mirebound artifact. Even Hui would have been stunned by this force, let alone a mere line of power.

While the star of divine energy was being suppressed, Lu Yin located the two lines. He pulled the silver line out and then drew upon the divine energy to create another star beside the first one. Then, the silver line was sent into the new star.

He was unable to endure it when the two lines were together, which meant that he had to separate them and see if he could endure them individually.

"Master, I’m fine now. Let me try again."

Mister Mu pulled back the cauldron.

Again, divine energy again erupted from Lu Yin's body, though the process was far more controlled than before. He had enough time to steady his mind.

As long as he could remain calm, he could suppress the bloodlust induced by the divine energy.

From a distance, Kang Tian stared at Mister Mu’s cauldron with envy. The tool was too powerful, and when paired with the man himself, the two were simply a perfect match.

Just where did the man stand in the current power rankings of human civilization?

Despite having only just broken through, Mister Mu’s contributions during the battle against Hui had surpassed even Greater Sancte Awe Gate’s. Awe Gate’s power was sharp and fierce, but she still felt a bit lacking when compared to Mister Mu’s calm dominance. His cauldron was especially awing, as it had been powerful enough to shatter even the silver coffin.

Greater Sancte Awe Gate was also staring at the cauldron. It seemed stronger than any mirebound artifact she had ever seen.

Mister Mu truly did live up to being qualified to be Lu Yin’s master. He had broken into the Immortal realm on his own, and when he wielded that cauldron, Awe Gate had no confidence that she could defeat him. This was especially true since the man’s abilities did not focus solely on combat.

It was only at this moment that she fully relaxed. With such an expert joining their human civilization, their foundation had become much more secure.

Additionally, Obscura had lost Hui.

No matter how powerful Obscura might be, the current human civilization was not something that could be easily destroyed.

Finding a civilization within the Aevum Inch which was capable of destroying humanity would not be easy. Only fishing civilizations might possibly be capable of that, but could such a powerful civilization allow themselves to be used by Obscura?

To endure and survive, the only answer was strength.

Through Lu Yin, the ancient monster of the Seven-Treasure Anuras had conveyed their view to humanity. Regardless of whether human civilization had once stood at its peak, the path they had chosen was one of steady progress, continuous strengthening of their combat power, and maintaining reverence toward the Aevum Inch.

This was their belief. It was also Lu Yin’s belief, and it would undoubtedly become Mister Mu’s as well.

It took several days for Lu Yin to gradually suppress the divine energy within him. He slowly opened his eyes, the calm having been restored.

He glanced around, seeing that Mister Mu and the others were all present.

"Have you recovered?" Mister Mu asked.

Lu Yin nodded. "Master, Hui is dead, and I eliminated almost all of the Hui-Silver Sky Army. Still, there are remnants of them scattered about the Aevum Inch. I will continue to wipe them out whenever I encounter them."

"There is no rush. The truth is that we eradicated the entire Hui-Silver Sky Army during our last battle with them here. None of the current members of the Hui-Silver Sky Army were a part of that war. Our true enemy was Hui alone. With them dead, my megaverse has finally received an answer." Mister Mu sighed.

“Master, please take me to pay respects to the fallen seniors.”

A slight tremor struck Mister Mu. After a moment, he turned and silently headed in a certain direction.

Lu Yin followed.

Greater Sancte Awe Gate and Kang Tian remained where they were, giving the master and disciple some privacy.

Once they arrived at a distant corner of the universe, Mister Mu gazed out at the empty space. Complicated emotions filled his eyes. "It was here, back then, that they charged at Hui, one after another. As they separated from us, they only left their smiling faces behind.

"They smiled as they reunited, and they smiled as they said farewell.

"They smiled... and remembered."

Lu Yin turned to face the same direction and slowly bowed. "Your junior, Lu Yin of the Tianyuan, greets all of his honored seniors."

Nine sticks of incense burned in outer space to honor the departed.

After some time, more incense was lit, and the smoke gradually spread across the stars as they offered tribute to all the lives that had been lost in the megaverse. They had finally been avenged.

The cauldron floated in front of Mister Mu as he slowly recounted various stories of the past.

Lu Yin had no knowledge of the megaverse or its former civilization, but as Mister Mu spoke, he gradually learned. He touched its history and felt a deep connection form.

"I was not capable enough to protect them. If I had possessed strength like yours at that time, things would not have played out as they did." Mister Mu lamented with a sigh.

Lu Yin did not know what to say. It was true; if the Mister Mu of the past had possessed Lu Yin’s current strength, then when paired with the cauldron mirebound artifact, Hui truly would not have been able to do anything to the megaverse. At the very least, survival would have been possible. However, how many individuals like Lu Yin could exist throughout the Aevum Inch?

He was not being arrogant. No matter how much caution he felt towards what was in the Aevum Inch or how self-aware he was, Lu Yin knew that he was one of the few truly exceptional individuals.

Almost never did anyone beneath the Immortal realm manage to reach Lu Yin’s level of strength.

At the moment, his only true opponents were Immortals, and even then, not average ones. Only an expert at Hui’s level could truly stand against Lu Yin.

"Master, even if you had stopped Hui, Obscura still would have eventually sent other experts," Lu Yin said to comfort Mister Mu. From what he had learned in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, this was not a very high possibility, but that depended on what Obscura wanted from Mister Mu’s megaverse.

If they were after the cauldron mirebound artifact, they absolutely would have sent additional experts.

Lu Yin did not believe that, over the course of so many years, Obscura had not sent any other experts to search for the cauldron. They simply had not found it.

Thinking of this, he turned to study the cauldron. Was it really just a mirebound artifact that functioned as a tool of suppression?

Mister Mu saw Lu Yin looking at the cauldron. A wave of his hand dispersed the burning incense into the void. "Curious, are you?"

Lu Yin nodded. "This is a Dominion-type mirebound artifact, right? What exactly is it?"

Mister Mu replied, "I do not know. There is an ancient legend that the finest of mirebound artifacts are considered Dominion-type mirebound artifacts. Those that we normally see do not qualify. As for the die that you possess, not even I can evaluate its nature. The Tianyuan is special. I understood that the moment I arrived."

"Master, you couldn’t take this cauldron away with you before, but what about now?" Lu Yin asked.

Mister Mu raised his hand, and the cauldron slowly shrank until it slipped into his sleeve. "Now, I can take it."

Lu Yin let out a breath of relief, finally at ease.

Mister Mu was formidable on his own, but with the cauldron’s assistance, there was no question that he would be far stronger. Given enough time, it was quite possible that he could even reach the same level as Greater Sancte Green Lotus.

An entire megaverse and the spirits of countless departed heroes had been waiting for this moment.

The Hui-Silver Sky Army had incited Mister Mu’s fury by claiming to have kept prisoners. While that had been a lie, the army had lingered in the megaverse the entire time, which itself was a tragedy for this place. That tragedy had finally been washed away.

Mister Mu glanced around and let out a long breath. With his vengeance fulfilled, he felt as though a massive weight had been removed from him.

The burden had weighed on his heart for far too long.

What he felt most grateful for at the moment was accepting Lu Yin as his disciple years before. He could have never imagined that the young man would reach such incredible heights.

Looking back at the strength that Mister Mu had once possessed and been so proud of, able to contest against Immortals, and comparing that to the Tianyuan’s Origin Universe, which had not even had a Progenitor at the time, the difference in level must have been overwhelming.

Lu Yin finally understood why Mister Mu had remained calm no matter what he faced in the Tianyuan. Even the final battle at the Immemorial Citadel had not shaken the man.

The disparity in level had simply been too vast.

Thankfully, Lu Yin had finally managed to catch up, despite not yet breaking into the Immortal realm.

"Alright, we can leave now," Mister Mu announced, his voice noticeably more relaxed.

"You don’t want to stay a bit longer?"

Mister Mu's expression turned solemn. "It is possible that Obscura can somehow sense Hui’s passing. While we succeeded in working together to kill Hui, if Obscura sends two of their experts here, we may not be able to handle them."

As he spoke, his gaze drifted to the distance where Kang Tian sat. "That Immortal is not necessarily an ally of humanity."

Lu Yin replied, "Do not worry, Master. Obscura isn’t able to immediately sense Hui's death. When the Immortal named Qi Xu died in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, Obscura only learned about it many years later, and that triggered a civilizational war. If it weren’t for my own carelessness, they still would not know about it even now."

Mister Mu was surprised. "Is that so? It seems that I have missed a great deal. No matter, you can explain matters to me on our way back."

Lu Yin was speechless. "Our return will be quick. I can teleport."

"Can you return us directly to the human civilization?"

"Not directly, but close enough. I left a trail of pathfinding stones along the way so that we can get back just by teleporting a few times."

Mister Mu felt helpless as he looked at his disciple. This boy... he leaves no path for anyone else.

Karma, teleportation, the Activeness that even Hui feared, Obscura’s own power, the ability to merge with the will of a megaverse—there was no simple way to describe him.

With Lu Yin present, Mister Mu was no longer in a hurry to leave. He wandered about the megaverse, reminiscing about the past.

As for Lu Yin, he spent his time searching for the fragments of the silver coffin.

The fragments crumbled the moment he touched them. Just a small bit of pressure was enough to reduce them to powder. There was no sign of the toughness that the coffin had once possessed.

He dragged the red coffin over and struck it with a great deal of force, but there was not even the lightest reaction.

With all of the power that Lu Yin possessed, he was completely unable to damage the coffin in the slightest. Only Greater Sancte Green Lotus and Mister Mu could do so, and Mister Mu needed his cauldron to do so.

"This thing's incredibly tough. When you encounter someone from Obscura in the future, keep this trick in mind," Greater Sancte Awe Gate commented when she arrived. She was staring at the silver fragments in Lu Yin's hand.

Lu Yin grunted in acknowledgment before casually crushing the silver fragments to powder. "These bits are useless. But that gate..."

They all looked toward Obscura’s gate in the distance.

Each member of Obscura possessed a line and a coffin. Now it seemed that a gate had to be added to that list. That seemed to be the full standard set of equipment that members of Obscura received.

Lu Yin had managed to acquire Hui’s line and had shattered the silver coffin. Only the gate remained.

But how could the gate be moved? It could not be taken away at all. The gate opened by using the main stream of the River of Aeons, which meant that Obscura had to have an expert capable of touching that river. That was something that Greater Sancte Blood Tower could only dream of possessing.

There was no doubt that that ability was part of Obscura’s foundational power.

They could not move the gate.

They spent several days of attempts, which all ended in failure. Still, the gate could be destroyed.

Lu Yin hesitated, uncertain of whether he should actually destroy it.

If he was not capable of teleportation, then of course the gate would need to be destroyed. However, with teleportation and the line of pathfinding stones that he had laid out, it was possible for them to quickly return to this megaverse. In that case, the gate could be considered the same as the Gate of Laws, a passage that humanity might be able to use as a last resort.

The civilizations that lay on the other side of the Gate of Laws were ones that humanity knew nothing about.

What about this gate? What megaverses did it lead to? Could it lead directly to Obscura? That was what troubled Lu Yin and the others. After all, Hui had wanted to escape through the gate.

If it connected, like the Gate of Laws, to an unknown region of the cosmos, then it could be used by humanity. Even members of Obscura would need to activate the gate to pass through it. On the other hand, if it led directly to Obscura, or even to a powerful fishing civilization, then it would lead to absolute disaster.

Mister Mu arrived, and when he learned of Lu Yin’s concerns, he bluntly stated, “Destroy it.”

“If it can be used by our human civilization, it would be a waste to destroy it,” Greater Sancte Awe Gate argued.

Mister Mu’s expression grew heavy. “If every civilization destroyed Obscura’s gates on sight, Obscura would lose this method of traversing the omniverse.”
