Chapter 4204: The Jumping Line Of Sight
Lu Yin grew particularly curious about how Qing Yun was able to see what she had.
She did not try to hide anything. "It’s a jumping line of sight. Truthfully, I’m unable to determine what I will see, nor am I even certain of just how far I can see. Still, up to the length of an entire day, I can extend my vision farther and farther out in the same direction. I can see places very, very far away, where not even an Immortal could ever hope to reach, and yet that distance means nothing for me. Still, I usually only look at places within the range of our human civilization."
Lu Yin knew that the cosmos was filled with wonders and countless strange innate gifts, and yet Qing Yun’s innate gift was beyond anything he could have imagined.
A jumping line of sight?
If she channeled her innate gift for a whole day, her vision would continue to move farther away for an entire day.
He had never heard of a creature not being able to fully control their own line of sight.
"Since you call it a ‘jumping’ line of sight, what kind of matter does it jump along?"
"I can’t say, as it’s chosen at random."
"If only a certain region of the entire omniverse contains a specific kind of matter, does that mean that you can only see that particular region?"
"That is right."
"So it all comes down to luck."
"Yet luck usually stands on my side in this. I have tried to use my jumping line of sight many times, and I have yet to have it stop on its own."
Lu Yin frowned. "Are you saying that the Aevum Inch itself is filled with whatever kind of matter your jumping line of sight uses?"
Qing Yun nodded.
Lu Yin could not understand. How was that possible?
Each region had its own distinct type of matter. Regions that were separated by vast distances should have vastly different matter compositions. Since Qing Yun had used her innate gift many times, she must have focused on a specific substance that only existed in her immediate area at least once. If that was the case, then why had her vision never stopped on its own?
"Oh, I forgot to mention," Qing Yun added, "All the attempts I am referring to are ones where I looked through the Aevum Inch."
Lu Yin still could not understand her innate gift. Even if she was looking through the Aevum Inch, the Aevum Inch should not be filled with the same type of matter that was found near the human megaverses.
"What about within the Nine Odysseys Megaverse?"
Qing Yun shook her head. "I don’t look inside the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. When I was little, I tried it once, and I saw too many dark and ugly scenes."
"I want to see it," Lu Yin said.
Qing Yun grew puzzled. "How can you see my innate gift, Mr. Lu?"
Lu Yin raised his hand, showing a die that had appeared. "I can borrow your innate gift. Doing so will only allow me to use it once, but that is enough to try."
Granny Yin instantly grew worried. "Mr. Lu, will this harm the young miss?"
Lu Yin smiled. "Don’t worry. She won’t be harmed in any way. Otherwise Greater Sancte Awe Gate would never let me off."
After another moment’s thought, Granny Yin agreed. The young miss was Greater Sancte Awe Gate’s only daughter.
The old woman bowed and silently took a step back. She did not know when it had started, but at some point in time, everyone had started seeing Lu Yin as standing equal to the Greater Sancti.
In the past, no one had ever dared to harm Qing Yun. The notion simply had not existed. Granny Yin had accompanied Qing Yun only as a matter of reassurance, not out of a need to be vigilant. However, when Lu Yin was involved, the old woman instinctively wanted to protect Qing Yun. That was because, subconsciously, Granny Yin considered Lu Yin as someone who was qualified to harm Qing Yun, someone who stood next to Greater Sancte Awe Gate.
It was the same with Lu Huai and Qing Yun; neither had a status that clearly placed them above the other. Lu Huai could simply ignore Qing Yun, if he so wished.
Qing Yun had Greater Sancte Awe Gate standing behind her, while Lu Huai had Lu Yin.
That perfectly exemplified Lu Yin’s position in the current human civilization.
Just as he was about to roll his die, Lu Yin remembered Lu Huai. He had nearly forgotten about the boy; Qing Yun’s innate gift had been just that shocking.
A casual wave of a hand flung Lu Huai out of the Champions’ Stage Purgatory, and he slammed into the ground.
The Champions' Stage Purgatory vanished.
Qing Yun and Granny Yin stared at Lu Huai, both visibly shaken.
Lu Huai had become the most famous person in their entire human civilization during the last century. Countless people had praised him, raising him up. At the same time, just as many had grown to resent him, though no one was able to do anything about him.
Even people who had the support of Immortals found it useless to try to do anything about Lu Huai. He was virtually untouchable.
Seeing that person sprawled across the ground like a dead dog, panting miserably, was beyond shocking.
Lu Yin looked down at Lu Huai. "Anything you’d like to say?"
Gasping for breath, it took Lu Huai a long time to even raise his head and look at Lu Yin. His gaze was completely different from before, to the extent that where the young man looked as if he had become an entirely different person. His eyes revealed confusion, hesitation, and doubt. It was as if the world itself had become unfamiliar to him. But at the same time, it seemed as if the unfamiliarity had confirmed something deep within him.
He stared at Lu Yin in a daze. "The same..."
Lu Yin calmly met the young man’s eyes, staring into the bewildered gaze. "What is the same?"
Lu Huai lowered his head to stare at the ground. He muttered to himself, "The same. I thought that their lives were different, but in the end, they are the same. Having more or less material things doesn’t determine the value of one’s life at all. That feeling is the same, the same feeling connects all different lives.
"Why is it the same?
"Is this really their lives?"
Not even Lu Yin himself knew exactly what Lu Huai had experienced because his own life experiences were far different from Lu Huai’s.
In some ways, Lu Huai’s life more closely resembled Qing Yun’s, but because he had been elevated so high, the two were also quite different.
Qing Yun could not restrain her curiosity. "Mr. Lu, what did he experience?"
Granny Yin was also staring at Lu Yin with curiosity filling her eyes.
Lu Yin clasped his hands behind his back. "Everyone’s life is unique. Some people, as observers, envy the lives of others, feel that others’ lives are not worthwhile, and may even hate the choices that others make. However, if you truly allow a person to live those other lives, they might make the exact same choices.
"Perception and emotion are both born from what one experiences throughout their life.
"Lu Huai’s arrogance comes from his disregard for material things as well as his own desires. He is able to obtain anything he desires, and he sees all of existence as nothing more than an amusement park. Because of that, I allowed him to live the lives of others, letting him take a second path in life. This is an opportunity for him. If he still refuses to repent, then he will live out his days as an ordinary person."
Lu Huai could not hear any of what Lu Yin said. Only Qing Yun, Granny Yin, Ancestor Lu Yuan, and Lu Buzheng, who had been watching the entire time, heard the explanation.
Qing Yun looked at Lu Huai with pity. Lu Yin’s Champions' Stage Purgatory was a nightmare for many, but for Lu Huai, having everything taken away from him and being forced to live as an ordinary person must have been worse than death.
To fall from one extreme of life to the opposite extreme was not easy for anyone to endure.
It was possible the man would go mad, but hopefully, he would truly reform himself.
Lu Yin looked into the distance. "Third Uncle, take him back."
Lu Buzheng walked over and offered Lu Yin a deep bow. "I have troubled you, Dao Monarch."
Lu Yin’s voice was gentle. "Not everyone can receive a second chance. He will only have this one. I truly hope that he can change."
Lu Buzheng’s expression was heavy. "If he remains the same as before, there will be no need for you to act, Dao Monarch. I will cripple him myself."
Granny Yin glanced at Lu Buzheng. You? You can’t even compare to your son’s strength.
Lu Huai was taken away, his eyes still clouded with confusion and torment.
Granny Yin sighed. "What a pity. All of humanity hoped to use Lu Huai as an example to see how quickly a person could cultivate if the full support of our entire civilization was focused on them. If his behavior had been different, he would have become the brightest genius of the next era, his name going down in history. Such a pity, such a pity."
"If one is not acceptable, then we will simply move on to the next. There will be more potential candidates," Lu Yin replied.
Granny Yin nodded. As long as members of the Lu family continued to awaken the innate gift of teleportation, each one would be raised up as a genius to be groomed. There was no avoiding it; teleportation was simply too important.
If their human civilization could raise many experts capable of teleportation, they would gradually experience a complete transformation. Even in the worst case scenario, if those people were only able to teleport within the bounds of humanity’s megaverses, it would be enough to turn their territory into a forbidden zone that no foreign civilizations would be willing to invade.
Lu Huai served as an example and a warning to everyone: no one could act with reckless disregard, not even those who were supported by Immortals.
This was good for both the Lu family and for humanity as a whole.
"Come with me." Lu Yin took Qing Yun and Granny Yin. They all vanished in an instant. When they reappeared, they were already at the limit of the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm.
Granny Yin and Qing Yun were startled. While they had known that Lu Yin could teleport across vast distances, experiencing it for themselves was still overwhelming. Such a sensation completely shattered all of their previous understanding of space and time. Did distance even actually exist?
Lu Yin tapped his die, causing it to slowly spin: one pip. Something useless dropped out. He continued. Six pips: Possession. He tapped it again. Five pips: Gift Copy. With that, he could borrow another’s innate gift.
He raised his hand and touched Qing Yun’s shoulder.
She was startled, and stared blankly at him.
Granny Yin was also taken aback. What is this? Is this not far too presumptuous, even for Lu Yin? Wait, Greater Sancte Awe Gate seems to want the young miss to marry Lu Yin, so then...
The old woman acted as if she had seen nothing.
Lu Yin merely tapped Qing Yun’s shoulder before withdrawing his hand. An eye appeared on the face of the die that had five pips. It was as realistic as Qing Yun’s own eyes, clear and bright. It was as if the eye was staring right at Lu Yin.
Jumping line of sight, is it? Let me try it.
As Lu Yin activated the innate gift, the way his eyes perceived the cosmos changed. Previously, the Aevum Inch had consisted of an endless darkness, and thanks to his understanding of space and time, he was able to see much farther through it than most people. However, as he peered out now, the cosmos consisted of countless different kinds of matter. The matter was densely packed, and it was spread across all of outer space. There was such a variety that he could not even begin to fathom how many different types of matter there might be. Not even a trillion was enough to describe what he saw. As he looked farther out, it felt as if he could see even more. The omniverse was infinite and vast, and the sheer diversity of matter permeated all of existence.
He already knew what he needed to do. He needed to choose one type of matter and use that as a medium, attaching his vision to it. As long as that same type of matter existed elsewhere, his vision would jump to other clumps of it. By choosing a direction and jumping along the chosen type of matter, he would replicate Qing Yun’s jumping line of sight.
The distance between the bits of matter did not affect the time it took for his vision to jump between them. For example, if the same kind of matter existed nearby as well as the Seven-Treasure Anuras’ homeland, then Lu Yin’s vision could instantly jump to that location and see it. That was how the jumping line of sight worked.
It was an innate gift that relied on luck, though not entirely.
He casually chose the type of matter he intended to use, and his vision instantly shifted. He saw scenes of various locations throughout the cosmos, shifting again and again. Each time his vision shifted, he saw a different place from before. His vision was jumping, leaping farther and farther away. He had no idea where his vision might jump to at any given moment.
As Lu Yin continued to stare, most of the day soon passed. During that time, he saw a megaverse, as the jumping line of sight happened to pass through one. However, it vanished from his sight just a moment later.
If he had wanted to, he could have teleported right into that megaverse.
However, he did not dare to do so, as he feared that it would be impossible for him to return home.
Who knew how far that megaverse might be from the human megaverses? Even if he could use the innate gift of jumping line of sight, there was no way to guarantee that the same kind of matter would reappear anywhere close to the human megaverses. His vision might simply skip right past humanity, and he would never even know it.
If he left, he might never make it back.
Qing Yun and Granny Yin did not disturb Lu Yin, and they simply waited for him to finish.
Granny Yin was curious. She had already known about the jumping line of sight and that it allowed Qing Yun to see extremely far away. However, the old woman had only ever heard the ability’s description. She had never experienced it herself.
Lu Yin was personally experiencing it.
What kind of abilities did Mr. Lu really possess? He was even able to use other people’s innate gifts, which was beyond extraordinary.
Qing Yun’s innate gift was already strange enough, and yet Mr. Lu’s innate gift was even harder to fathom.
