Chapter 4206: I Added It

Chapter 4206: I Added It

Greater Sancte Green Lotus had brought Seruzen back to the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. When Lu Yin had first told the Immortal about the innate gift that Seruzen had obtained from the Arboreal Realm, Green Lotus’s interest had been sparked. Afterwards, Seruzen could be considered a part of the Sea of Karma.

It was understandable that Sky Garan and Chu Yuan had gone back to the Tianyuan, but it was surprising to learn that Gu Xiao'er had dared to remain behind.

The man had been the type of person to flee whenever victory appeared out of reach. Despite that, he had stayed in the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, as if his courage had suddenly grown.

Although the population of the Tianyuan was smaller, no one dared to underestimate the megaverse. The people of the Tianyuan had initially been no match for the prodigies of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse, especially those from the Scion Spire. However, after years of cultivating, the Tianyuan cultivators’ progress astonished everyone. They had drawn attention from even the Nine Odysseys Megaverse and the Spirit Nidus, and many had sought to exchange insights with the geniuses of the Tianyuan.

Seeing all of the familiar faces on the other side of the gate, Lu Yin felt a powerful wave of nostalgia.

“Mr. Lu, why don’t we go? The Terrace Gathering can begin now,” Greater Sancte Awe Gate invited Lu Yin to join her, and after that, the massive gate swung wide open.

Everyone in the Frightened Sparrow Terrace bowed in unison. “Greetings, Greater Sancte Awe Gate.”

“Greetings, Greater Sancte Awe Gate.”

“Greetings...”

The numerous voices all merged together, startling the Frightened Sparrows, causing them to instinctively fly higher. It was clear that they had been scared.

Greater Sancte Awe Gate strode forward, Lu Yin at her side.

Everyone stood back up. Seeing that Lu Yin was also present caught many by surprise, and the attendees quickly offered another bow. “Greetings, Lord Lu.”

“Greetings, Lord Lu.”

“Greetings...”

Regardless of which megaverse they were from, everyone bowed. Lu Yin was not only the ruler of the Tianyuan, but also one of the most powerful individuals in the entire human civilization. No one dared to ignore him.

His status was equal to that of Greater Sancte Green Lotus and the other Immortals.

Lu Yin’s gaze swept over the crowd. “Rise.”

Everyone stood. Many looked at Lu Yin with excitement and barely restrained emotions. None had expected this Terrace Gathering to have not only Greater Sancte Awe Gate, but also Lu Yin.

Lu Yin’s legends were praised everywhere, both in the Tianyuan and the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. Unlike the Immortals, Lu Yin gave the impression of being someone more tangible, despite not being inferior to the Immortals. Additionally, he possessed the innate gift of teleportation that countless people dreamed of.

If people were allowed to choose a mentor from humanity’s strongest powerhouses, many would select Lu Yin.

Even those who did not have a full understanding of the Immortal realm and believed Lu Yin to be somewhat inferior would still make the same choice, as everyone agreed that the man would eventually become an Immortal, given his youth.

Those who were qualified to join the Terrace Gathering all understood that, while Lu Yin was not an Immortal, his combat strength would place him as one of the five most powerful individuals in their entire human civilization.

This was a very generous estimate. If Kang Tian were included, then their human civilization had eight immortals: Greater Sancte Green Lotus, Greater Sancte Blood Tower, Greater Sancte Awe Gate, Ku Deng, Master Qing Cao, Mister Mu, Jiang Feng, and Kang Tian. Considering Lu Yin to be within the top five suggested that he was stronger than three of those Immortals, and yet that was what most people believed.

The people at the Frightened Sparrow Terrace were also aware that Lu Yin might be ranked higher than fifth. If he used every means at his disposal, he might even be able to compete for a place among the top three.

Those who knew Lu Yin personally were stricken by a bevy of complicated emotions. Lu Siyu and Ming Xiaochou were fine, as they had always enjoyed a friendly relationship with Lu Yin, but people like Wu Jie, Xian Ding, and Little Salamander grew nervous. They feared that Lu Yin might make things difficult for them.

Chu Yuan, Shang Qing, and others remained calm. Their past rivalry with Lu Yin had faded away long ago. They had failed to keep up with even Lu Yin’s shadow, and all they could do now was offer him a formal show of respect.

Gu Xiao'er, Si Jiushi, and the others whom Lu Yin had deceived in the past were struck speechless. They were all too aware that the man was nothing like the noble figure that so many imagined. People had turned Lu Yin into a myth, but in truth, he was a schemer, a thief, and a shameless troublemaker who loved to shift blame onto others.

Regardless of the various complicated emotions among the crowd, the Terrace Gathering officially began.

A gesture from Greater Sancte Awe Gate caused all of the Frightened Sparrows to descend to the terrace, where they curiously observed the gathered humans.

The birds’ small eyes were bright and lively. As soon as someone scared the Frightened Sparrows, their eyes would visibly show fear, and they would also take off, circling around Frightened Sparrow Terrace.

Had Lu Yin not been informed of the Frightened Sparrows’ peculiar nature, even he would have been deceived by them.

Who would have thought that, while their eyes radiated fear, their true feelings were of absolute delight.

There were a great many Frightened Sparrows, enough for each participant to scare one. For the humans, this day was the Terrace Gathering, an event that offered them a chance to ask Greater Sancte Awe Gate a question. But it was also kind of a festival for the Frightened Sparrows; from their perspective, this was the day that the humans played with them.

Bang!

There was a loud crash as Si Jiushi slammed his fist down right next to a sparrow, scaring it into quickly taking off, circling the platform twice.

Si Jiushi lashed out again, making multiple attempts to frighten the bird, but the Frightened Sparrow refused to fly more than three circuits around the terrace.

Ku Zhou opened a rift beneath a Frightened Sparrow, the endless darkness devouring the surroundings. The bird shot up in a panic and circled the terrace five times. This sight caused Ku Zhou to believe that he had thoroughly terrified the bird, and he offered one of the Rift of Suffering’s salutes to it. “My apologies.”

In the distance, Lu Siyu shouted as she sent a slash of her sword brushing past a sparrow. It fluttered into the air and flew half a lap.

She was rendered speechless.

Zhan Qianguhou unleashed Zhan Ming’s famous battle technique, Heart Shatter Blade, but he was also only able to make his Frightened Sparrow fly half a lap.

Sky Garan used Reincarnation Start with a bloodstained spear, which caused his sparrow to fly a full lap.

Shang Qing immediately used the Tri-Yang Ancestral Qi Technique.

Gu Xiao'er surrounded his Frightened Sparrow with smoke that then transformed into an eagle, leaving those watching speechless.

Qing Yun smiled softly. Every Terrace Gathering was full of entertainment.

The most baffling participant was Jue Rou, who started talking to her bird as if she had found the perfect listener. As she continued speaking, the Frightened Sparrow flew three laps around the terrace, stunning many.

Lu Yin shook his head.

“That should be the third daughter of the West Domain’s Jue family. This is my first time seeing a Frightened Sparrow be annoyed into flying away,” Greater Sancte Awe Gate remarked.

Lu Yin was surprised. “Are you familiar with her, Senior?

Greater Sancte Awe Gate turned to smirk at Lu Yin. “Of course. She’s one of the candidates on your harem list, and she is also quite well known.”

Lu Yin’s eyes bulged. He was certain that he must have misheard. “Harem list?”

Greater Sancte Awe Gate glanced back at him. “You didn’t know?”

Lu Yin was dumbfounded. “What harem list? Where did this come from?”

Greater Sancte Awe Gate smiled as she explained, “Some enthusiastic people created a harem list for you, hoping you will soon produce heirs for the human civilization. Everyone knows that any descendent of the Lu family has the potential to awaken the innate gift of teleportation, which means that all members of the direct family line is highly sought after for marriage alliances. As for you personally... there’s nothing more to say.”

While speaking, she glanced back at Lu Yin, still smiling. “It’s quite a long list.”

Lu Yin was lost for words.

“Would you like to look at it?”

“That’s unnecessary.”

“Are you uninterested?”

“...”

“Qing Yun is also on that list.”

Lu Yin hurried to apologize. “I truly knew nothing about this! I have harmed Miss Qing Yun’s reputation, and for that, I am sincerely sorry.”

Greater Sancte Awe Gate laughed. “I put her on the list.”

Lu Yin was left utterly dumbfounded.

Of course. Who other than Greater Sancte Awe Gate would dare to add Qing Yun’s name to such a list? It would be courting death.

There were five days left before the Terrace Gathering ended and a winner was determined. For five days, all of the gathered elites would try every possible means to scare their Frightened Sparrows. Battle techniques and innate gifts were all too common, which caused some people to resort to unusual ideas. Some even attempted to make deals with the birds, convinced that the animals understood human speech. Someone proposed to a Frightened Sparrow that, if it flew ten laps around the terrace, they would find it a number of female birds to choose from.

Others tried racing with the Frightened Sparrows in competitions of speed.

There were even some who disguised themselves as Frightened Sparrows themselves, albeit rather ugly ones, and they chased the real birds around the terrace.

In short, all kinds of attempts were made, leaving Greater Sancte Awe Gate stunned. She had never witnessed such unusual attempts before.

Previously, the Terrace Gatherings had also been lively, but everyone had maintained a certain level of decorum; they had limited themselves to scaring the birds in the most elegant ways possible. After all, Greater Sancte Awe Gate was watching, along with Qing Yun. No one wanted to leave a bad impression on either woman. Despite that, everything changed for this event. Everyone abandoned their restraints and simply did anything they could think of.

The primary culprit was Gu Xiao'er, who had set the change in tone. He had managed to strike a deal with a Frightened Sparrow, successfully convincing it to fly seven laps. That allowed him to surpass Ku Zhou, who was sorely tempted to toss the other man into a rift for his behavior.

It was disgraceful to win by such means.

Lu Yin rubbed his forehead. This was far too humiliating for the Tianyuan.

Unfortunately, even Gu Xiao'er’s incredible display of shamelessness and sacrifice did not win the contest.

Ning Xiao, Hong'er, and Chu Yuan each succeeded in causing their birds to fly twelve laps around the terrace, which them to become the final winners.

“In the past, there has always been just one winner, and seldom has anyone exceeded ten laps. This gathering has set a new record.” Greater Sancte Awe Gate complimented the winners.

Lu Yin looked at the three. Each one of them was exceptionally talented.

There was no need to speak about Ning Xiao. The fact that he had been accepted into the Scion Spire, even in a secondary chamber, was remarkable for an independent cultivator. It was exceptionally rare for someone unaffiliated to be able to compete with people like Little Lotus King.

Lu Yin had seen Ning Xiao take action in Blackmarsh. The man possessed a unique physique: any attack that struck him would be remembered by his body, and that memory allowed him to instinctively avoid any moves that he had faced before. It was known as Body Archive, which came from the idea of archiving all techniques that had been seen through.

The man was able to use nameless methods to break any battle technique that he faced. He cultivated the Nine Deficiencies Art, and he also possessed a physical strength that was unmatched by any of his peers. He had learned countless techniques from a number of experts: Five-Finger Skyward Gate from the former guardians of the Skyward Gate, Little Lotus King’s Hundred-Pace Piercing Poplar, Sealed Step, Xue Zhan’s Eight Forms, which had been learned from Xue Zhan, and many more.

It could be said that, if Ning Xiao continued cultivating as he had been, his future would be exceedingly bright.

He had already attracted a great deal of attention.

Furthermore, the method that he had used to scare his Frightened Sparrow was the Awe Gate.

That was right, he had used an Awe Gate.

His Soul legacy skill was Awe Gate, and when he released it, a gate had appeared and expanded endlessly, pressing down upon his Frightened Sparrow. Because the birds lived on the terrace, they were the most familiar with Awe Gates; it was their sky. Seeing that sky collapse naturally led to panic. This time, it was not false fear, but true terror. The bird flew twelve laps around the terrace, which was the most that it was capable of. It simply could not fly any more than that.

Ning Xiao’s method proved to be both clever and extremely effective. Many tried to imitate him, but after several Awe Gates appeared, the effect disappeared. Many times, techniques worked best when they first appeared.

Ning Xiao was a clever man.

Others had considered similar ideas before, but the contest was held on the Frightened Sparrow Terrace; who would dare to frighten a Frightened Sparrow with an Awe Gate? But for this gathering, Gu Xiao'er’s behavior had inspired everyone to abandon all restraint.

Hong'er was third of the Seven Fairies and nominal disciple of Greater Sancte Green Lotus. She was someone who could enter the Sea of Karma any time she wished. It was not difficult for her to meet with the Greater Sancti, and many could not understand why she had joined the Terrace Gathering.

Hong'er had used a simple method to frighten her bird: she approached it, blew on it, and that was all that was necessary.

The reason was simple. She was a creature from a foreign megaverse, and her breath carried the aura of that megaverse. When she breathed on it, it had instantly enveloped the Frightened Sparrow. Animals had certain senses that were far sharper than humans’, and the bird was terrified. It had taken off and also completed twelve laps around the terrace.
