Chapter 4252: Restoration

Chapter 4252: Restoration

Lu Yin then realized that Awe Gate actually got along quite well with the Longevity Civilization’s Immortals. The only barrier between them was that they were from different civilizations.

It was no wonder why the Longevity Civilization had been willing to let her stay back then.

They probably saw Awe Gate the same way that they would look at any of their juniors.

The Longevity Civilization could not afford to lose Chang Tian, but similarly, the human civilization could not afford to lose Awe Gate.

Despite not showing any emotion, Awe Gate had carried a lot of bitterness in her heart for many years.

Qing Yun was certainly still searching for her own father as well.

At this moment, Chang Tu’s voice rang out, booming across the universe. “The bestowal of Divine Sight begins. Quiet your hearts and wait.”

Within the ring of light, the 100 people all closed their eyes as one and waited in silence.

Chang Fu spoke in a low voice. “The process of receiving Divine Sight is not complicated, and you can clearly feel it yourself. Once you receive Divine Sight, you must leave the halo. The earlier you succeed, the greater the recognition of the Longevity Vine.

“In the past, Chang Tian set a new record for how fast he received Divine Sight, with only half a stick of incense passing.”

“And you?” Awe Gate asked.

Chang Fu replied, “One full stick of incense.”

“And the old guy?” Awe Gate continued.

Chang Tu heard the question and blandly answered, “Half a stick.”

“It appears that those who receive Divine Sight within one stick of incense are the greatest elites who have a true chance of becoming Immortals,” Lu Yin remarked in admiration.

Chang Fu shook his head. “Not exactly. This is merely a form of approval. Many people have managed to obtain Divine Sight within one incense stick’s time, but only so many have ever reached the Immortal realm. There is one thing that does hold true, though. Every Immortal has received Divine Sight within one stick of incense.”

“This junior is quite curious. What is the relationship between your Longevity Vine and Divine Sight? Why can the Longevity Vine bestow Divine Sight?” Lu Yin asked.

Chang Tu answered with a rejoinder. “Can you explain the principles behind innate gifts and mirebound artifacts?”

Lu Yin replied, “I could study them a bit.”

Awe Gate gave a cold laugh. “Old man, would you like us to study the Longevity Vine a bit?”

Chang Tu fell silent.

Chang Fu could only shake his head while showing a wry smile.

Time trickled by. For those within the halo of light, it was pure torment. Everyone wanted to receive Divine Sight within one stick of incense.

While such success did not guarantee eventually becoming an Immortal, it did demonstrate that one had the potential to reach that realm. With that possibility, further cultivation within their civilization would become far easier, and there was a good chance of simply becoming an Immortal’s disciple.

Soon, nearly enough time had passed for one stick of incense to have burned away.

All of a sudden, Chang Ling (长灵) opened her eyes and stepped out of the light. Immediately after that, Chang Ling (长铃) opened her eyes as well. Both women had received Divine Sight at nearly the same moment. They left the halo, exchanging smiles.

Awe Gate had been watching the two the entire time. Seeing that they had obtained Divine Sight, she was finally able to let out a quiet breath of relief.

They were not her disciples, and yet she found the two women particularly pleasing to the eye.

The third person to receive Divine Sight was a young man standing near the back of the group. He stepped out of the light, barely managing to restrain his excitement. Even so, his flushed face betrayed just how hard he was struggling to hold himself together.

By the time that one stick of incense passed, only the three of them had succeeded.

Then, Young War King obtained Divine Sight and stepped out.

After that, one person after another received Divine Sight and slowly moved out of the halo of light.

“The truth is that many people don’t wish to participate in the vine-climbing contest too early, precisely because they hope to receive Divine Sight within one stick of incense. The reality is that receiving Divine Sight has nothing to do with a person’s cultivation level or what battle techniques or methods they have trained with. Still, countless ‘methods’ have spread throughout our civilization, and many people keep trying them,” Chang Fu said, “Almost all of these methods originate from the mouths of people who happened to receive Divine Sight within one stick of incense, but not even they know why they were successful. All they can do is experiment.”

Lu Yin understood. It was no wonder why so many people had been forcibly dragged out to participate in the contest. They were among those who had not wanted to participate just yet.

All of them had been forced out by Chang Tu.

If not for those additions, Lu Yin’s progress certainly would have ensured him a place among the top 100.

Then again, it might not have played out that way. It was possible that the Longevity Civilization’s ancestor would have simply intervened even earlier to prevent Lu Yin from succeeding.

Once the last person moved out of the ring of light, Chang Tu smiled. “This vine-climbing contest is now concluded. Chang Fu, you will later take these people to the Sight Realm to absorb sight power.”

“Yes, Senior,” Chang Fu replied.

Down below, the Ortusers and Dukkhans all started talking amongst themselves, visibly relaxing.

Lu Yin and Awe Gate were already planning to leave and return to their human civilization.

All of a sudden, Lu Yin’s brow grew scorching hot. It felt as if something inside was trembling, trying to burst through his glabella.

Startled, he clapped a hand to his brow. Had someone attacked him? He had not felt any external power, which meant that no one had moved against him.

Even if the Longevity Civilization’s ancient monster took action, Lu Yin would at least be able to sense danger.

So what was happening?

Awe Gate’s gaze instantly sharpened. “Lu Yin, what’s wrong?”

Lu Yin’s reaction drew Chang Tu and Chang Fu’s attention as well, and both men looked over in confusion.

Awe Gate suddenly shot a glare at them, killing intent flickering in her eyes. “What did you do?”

Chang Tu frowned, still staring at Lu Yin. “We have done nothing. What is going on?”

Lu Yin waved his hand and tried to speak, only for his brow to suddenly split open. A beam of light pierced the sky, shooting at the ring of light where the 100 finalists had stood just moments before. The light twisted, and then an ethereal eye appeared. It stared straight at Lu Yin.

Lu Yin met that eye’s gaze, and the two stared at each other.

The beam connected him to the eye that had appeared. He let out a muffled groan as his pupils dilated. A third line of sight opened in his vision. Is this Heaven’s Sight?

Lu Yin had received Heaven’s Sight from Wu Tian. The man had created Heaven’s Sight, and Lu Yin had coincidentally obtained it. However, Heaven’s Sight had been pierced during a battle with Aeternus, and Lu Yin had lost the technique afterwards.

Even after Wu Tian eventually returned, he had not been able to help Lu Yin restore Heaven’s Sight.

Once Heaven’s Sight was destroyed, it had simply disappeared. Losing it had not affected Lu Yin much, and Wu Tian similarly had not paid much mind to the matter.

But at this moment, was Heaven’s Sight actually being restored?

Lu Yin stared at the distant eye in confusion. It was vivid and unfathomably deep, and through the beam that connected them, it was somehow reconstructing Heaven’s Sight, having already forced it out from his brow.

Realizing what was happening left Lu Yin feeling bewildered.

Awe Gate was just as confused.

Neither person saw the shock on Chang Tu and Chang Fu’s faces.

“Senior...” Chang Fu said, his expression changing drastically.

Chang Tu raised a hand to silence the other man and then flicked his sleeve. Everyone else was thrown down from the area above the Longevity Vine. Only a select few remained where they had been standing.

Awe Gate shot a wary glance at Chang Tu. “What is going on? Why did Divine Sight suddenly lock onto Lu Yin?”

Chang Tu’s expression shifted as he stared at Lu Yin and then looked over at Awe Gate. The old man wanted to speak, but he had no idea how to phrase things.

Just then, he seemed to hear something. He let out a heavy breath and looked back at Lu Yin. “This brat once possessed a battle technique that was similar to Divine Sight, but it shattered. Divine Sight has the inherent ability to repair all vision-based battle techniques. You could say that the brat is lucky. Divine Sight actually sensed his broken technique and is helping him reconstruct it.”

Awe Gate looked back at Lu Yin. Was that really the case?

At that moment, the beam of light faded away, as did the halo of Divine Sight.

Lu Yin let out a breath and touched his brow. Heaven’s Sight had returned. It had truly been restored, which was something that he had never imagined would happen.

He had also heard Chang Tu’s explanation. “So Divine Sight repaired this junior’s Heaven’s Sight?”

A glint flickered in Chang Tu’s eyes. “Is that battle technique of yours called Heaven’s Sight?”

Lu Yin nodded.

“Did you create it yourself?” Chang Fu asked hurriedly.

Lu Yin shook his head. “I didn’t even cultivate on my own. Rather, I received it from one of my seniors. That senior suffered an accident and was forced to leave Heaven’s Sight somewhere, and this junior happened to obtain it later on.”

"Is that so? That's quite a stroke of luck for you. But how did Heaven's Sight shatter?" Chang Tu asked, clearly quite curious.

Lu Yin hid nothing and gave the story of what had happened during that battle.

Chang Tu sighed in admiration. “If not for Heaven’s Sight, you would already be dead. Brat, your luck is incredible. To even have your Heaven’s Sight restored by Divine Sight here in my Longevity Civilization means that this technique has a fated connection with us. I hope that you will make good use of it in the future.”

“This junior understands.

“Still, this junior has a few doubts. Can Divine Sight repair really all battle techniques that are related to the eyes? In that case-”

Before he could finish asking the question, Chang Tu’s expression abruptly changed. He looked downwards, his face darkening. “I need to deal with something first. We will speak later.”

With that, the man vanished.

Lu Yin and Awe Gate looked down and saw that many people had gathered and were arguing about something.

It was easy for them to listen in on what was being said below.

They quickly understood the situation. Those people were actually petitioning the Longevity Civilization’s legendary ancestor to uphold justice. They were filing a complaint with that ancient powerhouse, and the target of their complaint was Chang Tu.

Lu Yin was surprised to discover such a peculiar aspect to the Longevity Civilization. Ordinary cultivators—or at least, people who appeared to be quite average in his eyes—actually dared to offend Chang Tu.

Such a thing would never happen in his human civilization.

It was not that Immortals never made mistakes or could not be offended, but rather that no one would deliberately cause trouble for an Immortal. Most people were not able to gain sufficiently strong backing to do so, and even if an Immortal was the one in the wrong, what sort of punishment could they impose? Anyone who offended an Immortal would find every path forward blocked for them.

That was reality.

There was another detail, and it was crucial. Most ordinary cultivators had almost no chances to come into contact with Immortals. Even if they did, it would only be as disciples, followers, or juniors.

The cultivation world was one where the weak served as prey to the strong. Lodging a complaint like this was far too unusual.

And yet, that was happening right now in the Longevity Civilization.

The group was led by an Ortuser who knelt in the Longevity Vine’s direction while accusing Chang Tu of secretly allowing foreigners to participate in the vine-climbing contest. Behind the Ortuser stood someone whom Lu Yin recognized: Chang Qi.

So they were the ones responsible for the rumors that had spread.

Even before the contest began, people had gossiped about rumors of foreigners participating in it. Very few had been aware of Lu Yin and Awe Gate’s presence, and yet information about them had leaked. It was clearly deliberate.

Seeing Chang Qi, Lu Yin started to form a vague idea: this was related to the Slaughterheart Enclave.

Chang Qi was part of the Slaughterheart Enclave, which was part of Chang Tu’s faction. Chang Qi also happened to be in the exact same location where Lu Yin and Awe Gate had stayed, so it was not surprising that he had learned about their presence.

Chang Tu appeared and tried to intimidate the gathered cultivators, but they did not fear death. Rather, they had already prepared themselves for such an outcome. They had paid an enormous price and used every method they could to try to awaken their legendary ancestor.

Lu Yin found them rather pitiful. They had no idea that their ancestor was already awake and had watched the entirety of the contest. Even Lu Yin and Awe Gate’s participation had been tacitly approved of by that ancient being.

Their actions had great importance in their own eyes, but to Chang Tu’s perspective, it was completely meaningless.

“This is indeed a once in a lifetime opportunity for them. If they miss it, it will be very hard for them to ever cause trouble for Senior Chang Tu again,” Chang Fu’s voice came.

Lu Yin was curious. “Why do they want to make things difficult for Senior Chang Tu?”

Chang Fu explained, “Senior Chang Tu has a disciple named Chang Shi, who is the current master of the Slaughter Court, the place where you stayed.

“However, long ago, the Court of Slaughter had a different master. That man was named Chang Bai. Chang Bai was Chang Qi’s father, while Chang Shi is Chang Yi’s father.

“The two were once very close, but over time, various matters drove a wedge between them. Eventually, they fought to determine who would control the Slaughter Court. In truth, neither of them truly cared about the court itself. It was merely an excuse to settle their old grudges.

“That battle ended with Chang Bai’s death. He was slain by Chang Shi, using a battle technique personally taught to him by Senior Chang Tu.”
