Chapter 4454: Terrifying

Chapter 4454: Terrifying

“Just wait. I’ll decide how to deal with it after I confirm one more thing,” Lu Yin said before asking Ancestor Lu Yuan to keep an eye on the pseudo-Immortal. Lu Yin then repeatedly teleported himself in the direction that Joy City was moving in. From the perspective of the entire Aevum Inch as a whole, Lu Yin was essentially circling around the Immortal to approach the Divine Realm.

He eventually stopped. Now, he needed to roll six pips with his die to confirm whether or not Joy City would go to war with the Divine Realm. As long as war broke out between those two, the Immortal approaching the Trio could be dealt with however he wished. If the two did not go to war and instead avoided each other, Lu Yin would have to come up with some other way. He could not allow his human civilization to be targeted by the Divine Realm.

It took Lu Yin several months to Possess a skeleton in Joy City. Before that, he also Possessed Zhu again, as well as another creature within another megaverse who was similar to Zhu. Just like before, during that Possession, Lu Yin directly sought death. He could not allow the creature to lure the Death Megaverse any closer.

Joy City’s route was unchanged. It was still heading towards the Divine Realm. The power of Stillness that Lu Yin had left behind years ago had been very close to the Divine Realm, ensuring that, by the time the Stillness fully dissipated, Withered Requiem would see the Divine Realm.

300 years had already passed. In no more than 200 more, the two would meet. When that time came, Lu Yin wanted to see the power of Withered Requiem. He hoped that it would be capable of withstanding the Divine Realm’s most powerful being, their Divine King.

Splash.

He heard water, followed by a familiar voice. “Brother, want to form a band?”

Lu Yin looked over, feeling a bit strange. It was that same fish skeleton again. Just how persistent was it? “You still haven’t formed a band?”

“I have. I had several members, but I kicked them all out. Not a single one of them had any musical talent. They were just wasting my abilities.” The fish skeleton bounced on the surface of the river. “I think that you’ve got some real musical talent, brother. Come with me. I can take you into the castle.”

“How?” Lu Yin asked quietly.

The fish skeleton replied, “Of course by using our music to conquer the other bands!”

Lu Yin had assumed that the fish would take him back through the sewers again. After learning his lesson from the previous two incidents, Lu Yin would not attempt to enter through that route again. It was pointless. He would always be discovered.

“I don’t have any musical talent.”

“You do.”

“I really don’t.”

“Believe me, you really do.”

“What about the other members?”

“You agree?”

“You’re not worthy.”

“?”

Lu Yin ended the Possession and rolled the die again. He hoped to Possess that fish skeleton. At the very least, that fish had managed to sneak into the castle more than once, and it might know something.

The fish skeleton was clearly not weak. Even Dukkhans were instantly crushed by the pressure waves that traveled through the sewers, and yet the fish skeleton remained completely unharmed. With that, So Lu Yin could more or less guess how bright the orb of light that represented the fish must be. Hopefully, he would be able to Possess it.

He rolled his die again and again as time kept passing. Soon, several decades had gone by.

Throughout these years, Lu Yin had succeeded in Possessing far too many skeletons in Joy City. Although there were truly an endless number of skeletons, the ones that Lu Yin had Possessed were all reasonably strong, which allowed him to actually develop a deep understanding of them.

He knew that, outside the castle, the strongest skeleton was Zhou, who was very likely also the strongest creature under Withered Requiem.

Aside from Zhou, there were two more Immortal skeletons under Withered Requiem outside the castle. One was the skeleton of the Immortal from the civilization that Lu Yin had personally seen the Abyss destroy, while the other had been in the Abyss long before that. Quite a few of the skeletons that Lu Yin had Possessed knew that the Soft Megaverse creature had thrown that Immortal into Joy City.

That creature had been captured by the Soft Megaverse creature, and it was possible that this older Immortal was one who had escaped from the Seal-Eater Civilization.

However, Lu Yin only learned about the situation outside of the castle. As for what lay within, most of the skeletons knew nothing at all. Lu Yin could only infer from their thoughts that there was more than one Immortal inside the castle as well.

Among them, one of the Withered Requiem’s band members was an Immortal and apparently not a weak one at that.

This news sent a chill down Lu Yin’s back.

How many Immortals had he already confirmed to be in this Abyss? Including Withered Requiem, Joy City had at least five Immortals. What a terrifying number.

After all, the Death Megaverse had seven Abysses and Withered Requiem was only one of them. If one considered this, then the Death Megaverse might have more than thirty Immortals.

That was certainly not impossible. The Death Megaverse’s fighting style guaranteed it to accumulate more Immortals with battle.

After all, the Death Megaverse did not kill Immortals; instead, they used Bone Script to alter life. This both prevented their own karmic chains from increasing while also allowing the Death Megaverse to gain more Immortals.

It was an extremely terrifying method, even more terrifying than what the Divine Realm was capable of doing.

Although the skeletons created through Bone Script were far weaker than their original forms, they were still Immortals and still resonated with cosmic laws. Their strength surpassed the pseudo-Immortals of the Divine Realm.

Not only that, but the Divine Realm also only had about ten pseudo-Immortals while the Death Megaverse had far more powerhouses.

This was especially true since that creature of the Soft Megaverse was actually able to split off portions of itself to capture Immortals, and it even focused on hunting such experts. The number of Immortals who belonged to the Death Megaverse might very well far surpass what Lu Yin had previously imagined.

His mood grew heavy.

A large number of Immortals did not necessarily mean that the civilization was the strongest, but numbers alone were enough to make anyone wary. Just the increase in one’s karmic chain was enough to cause other Immortals headaches.

The Death Megaverse, Obscura, and the Plume Immortals were all extraordinarily powerful civilizations.

Lu Yin’s previous attempts had indeed been correct. To carve a way for humanity to escape from this kind of encirclement, the only option was to open up an entirely different path.

Joy City was already very close to the Divine Realm. It could be said that, if any Immortal from the Divine Realm appeared in that region, the two would collide at any moment. Under normal circumstances, the two civilizations would definitely meet within 100 years.

Lu Yin returned to the Human Trio and gathered Progenitor Chen, Qing Xing, and Dan Jin before returning to Ancestor Lu Yuan. It was time to let these three test themselves.

Their human civilization could not have just one Aberrant.

A light was constantly moving through the endless darkness of the Aevum Inch, always continuing on in one direction. It occasionally fired out other dots of light that looked like markers. If one looked closely, they would discover that each of those dots of light consisted of countless even smaller dots, and those smaller dots were in turn made up of yet smaller dots. This pattern repeated until the dots became so miniscule that they were impossible to see clearly.

Countless dots of light that were too small to be seen with the naked eye spread out. From afar, the light did not seem particularly large, but in truth, the points of light were constantly spreading out further and further.

Directly ahead of them stood three figures. They were Progenitor Chen, Dan Jin, and Qing Xing.

Qing Xing took a drink of wine, his sleepy eyes only half-open. He did not really want to fight, but Lord Lu had dragged him over, so there was nothing he could do about it.

Dan Jin waited calmly, her expression gentle.

Progenitor Chen also appeared to be calm, but deep in his eyes burned a blazing heat. Previously, when facing that sword slash, no matter how he resisted, he had still nearly been erased. That had been nothing more than a casual attack. That was the power of an Immortal. At last, he had gained the confidence to face an Immortal.

Although their opponent was only a very ordinary Immortal, Progenitor Chen himself had only just entered Dukkha.

“Your name is Xia Shang, right?” Qing Xing asked while glancing over at Progenitor Chen.

The man met Qing Xing’s gaze and silently nodded.

Qing Xing continued, “I’ve heard your legends, and I’ve always been curious. Does your Nine Clones technique have any drawbacks? For example, nine personalities?”

Dan Jin frowned. “Qing Xing, that crosses the line.”

Qing Xing just shrugged. “Xia Shang won’t mind.”

Progenitor Chen indeed did not mind. “There are nine personalities, which is a drawback. If cultivated poorly, it is easy to suffer backlash.”

Dan Jin jumped in, “You don’t have to answer him.”

Qing Xing smiled. “The Progenitor Chen that I heard about possessed an invincible spirit, and sure enough, that’s true. Something like a flaw is fine to say aloud. Take me, for example. Because of my master’s death, there is a flaw in my mental state, preventing me from ever breaking into the Immortal realm. It doesn’t matter. Saying it out loud just gives everyone something to enjoy, haha.”

Dan Jin looked at Qing Xing. “There’s no certainty that you cannot break into the Immortal realm.”

Qing Xing took another drink of wine. “I understand my own situation. Of the three of us, only Xia Shang has a chance of making that breakthrough.”

Progenitor Chen looked at Dan Jin. Can she also not break through?

He had heard the woman’s name before. She was one of the Nine Odysseys Megaverse’s Lower Sancte and was highly respected.

Dan Jin did not continue the conversation. “It’s coming. Prepare yourselves.”

“Actually, it’s possible that not breaking through is better. Why suffer from a karmic chain? Being an Aberrant sounds much more interesting.” Qing Xing put away his flask of wine as his expression grew sharp. Then, he charged forward. Streams of energy shot up and then out in all directions, fusing with the Nirvana Tree Path: Chaotic Ancient Qi Art.

Directly in front of them, the Immortal from the Divine Realm had long since noticed the three humans, yet it had paid them no mind. Unless a creature was an Immortal being, they were ultimately only ants.

Though, the Immortal was very curious as to what the three ants were doing in this place.

It could have never imagined that they were waiting for it, because according to what it understood, while it had detected the three mortals, those three absolutely could not have detected it.

Qing Xing’s sudden attack startled the Immortal. At first, the stream of energy shooting upward seemed like nothing, but the instant the Nirvana Tree Path fused and the Chaotic Ancient Qi Art fully erupted, the being felt danger. This creature, despite not being an Immortal being, actually posed a threat.

Then what about the other two?

One dot of light after another swept toward the stream of energy.

Boom!

The cosmos swelled, and space tore apart. Qing Xing was forced back. As expected of an Immortal.

One pill after another shot at the light. Dan Jin’s Pill Arts allowed her to create pills by fusing parallel universes together. The Nirvana Tree Path had elevated her strength by an entire level. Countless pills exploded, forcing even the light to retreat a bit, though not because it was being suppressed, merely because it was wary.

The attacks released by Qing Xing and Dan Jin made the being of light a bit uneasy. How could two creatures capable of contending with the power of an Immortal being suddenly appear at the same time? Were they Aberrants? Impossible. How could there be so many Aberrants?

With that thought, a massive Heaven’s Furnace appeared around it. Progenitor Chen was making his move and trying to obliterate the light within the furnace.

However, his Heaven’s Furnace shattered the moment it appeared, utterly incapable of affecting the light.

This was an Immortal. Even the most ordinary Immortal was not something that ordinary cultivators could challenge.

In the distance, Lu Yin and Ancestor Lu Yuan were both watching.

Without using the Nirvana Tree Path and his Star Fist, Progenitor Chen posed much less of a threat to the Immortal than even Qing Xing or Dan Jin.

“Are you sure that Xia Shang is qualified to fight against an Immortal now? He isn’t you. When you first encountered that hexagonal Immortal monster back then, weren’t you just a Progenitor?” Ancestor Lu Yuan asked a bit emotionally.

Lu Yin replied, “He is qualified. He just hasn’t fully erupted yet.”

“At best, Qing Xing and Dan Jin can hold their ground by working together. It looks like the Nirvana Tree Path can elevate their power to give them the destructive power of an Immortal, but they are still not Immortals. You know better than anyone else how difficult it was for you to achieve the strength of an Aberrant. Such beings do not appear easily,” Ancestor Lu Yuan protested.

The past appeared in Lu Yin’s mind. Yes, Aberrants did not appear easily.

Qing Xing had already been a powerhouse at the pinnacle of strength beneath the Immortal realm. With the help of the Nirvana Tree Path, he had reached the point where he could fight against Immortals, but that did not mean that he could defeat one.

Only one who killed an Immortal could truly be called an Aberrant.

Even if it was merely a pseudo-Immortal.
