Chapter 4520: Endless Recall

Chapter 4520: Endless Recall

Lu Yin directly unleashed a spiral of karma to examine Ni Que’s past, but it immediately said, “You will not be able to find it like that. Karma can reveal the past, but it cannot reveal conjectures. What I have shared is merely my own conjectures, not an actual lived experience.”

Lu Yin indifferently replied, “Do you think that this alone is enough to save your life?”

“Of course not. Release me, and I will tell you where you can learn Endless Recall.”

Lu Yin was genuinely surprised by that offer. “You know even that?”

“This is all due to my the Mind-Marking Tribulation. Believe it or not, this is the only way for you to approach Ni Bieluo’s path of karma. It has always been conflicted about whether to join Obscura. If it does, then unless you risk your life, you will not dare to attack it, and even if you do, you may not win. If it does not join, it will definitely flee. It will never let you find it. You will never see it again for as long as you live.

“This is your only chance to acquire Endless Recall.”

Lu Yin silently stared at Ni Que. Finding Ni Bieluo and using the method of designating karma to search for a way to transfer karmic chains would be a very difficult path, but it was still a path forward. However, Ni Bieluo would not let Lu Yin succeed, and neither would Wang Wen.

On the surface, everyone knew what Lu Yin intended to do. However, Ni Que offered him an alternate path.

As Lu Yin was thinking, behind him, Shan Yue suddenly bowed. “Lord Lu, the Mountain Sword Sect requests that you agree.”

Lu Yin turned to look at the man. Shan Yue was very serious, and his expression was solemn as he continued, “The Mountain Sword Sect requests that Lord Lu agrees to Ni Que’s offer.”

“If I agree, I must release it.”

“It is not important.”

Lu Yin stared at Shan Yue, rather dazed for a moment, as the man overlapped with another in Lu Yin’s mind. Grand Elder Shan Gu had once posed the same sort of request of Lu Yin, even setting aside his own hatred.

Lu Yin was sacrificing much for human civilization, yet humanity was likewise sacrificing for his sake.

With this request from Shan Yue, Lu Yin no longer hesitated. In truth, Ni Que was never the Mountain Sword Sect’s direct enemy, but merely someone in opposition to them on the battlefield.

The Mountain Sword Sect’s true enemies were the creatures that had driven them out of their megaverse, and Lu Yin had already avenged them. As for Ni Que, the people of Mountain Sword Sect hated it, but more than that, they wanted to vent their hatred.

“You heard that?” Lu Yin looked at Ni Que.

Ni Que breathed a sigh of relief. “I heard. You will not regret this.”

“The location?”

“You must first let me go.”

Lu Yin’s expression instantly grew cold. “You can only trust me. I will ask you one more time: the location.”

Ni Que wanted to say something more, but Lu Yin’s aura turned frigid, and killing intent also entered Shan Yue’s eyes, which left Ni Que afraid to put forth any further conditions. It could only choose to trust this human.

It gave Lu Yin the location.

Lu Yin casually implanted a Dao Sword within the creature. Letting Ni Que go would serve another purpose, which was the Dao Sword. Lu Yin hoped that it would prove useful in the future.

Lu Yin repeatedly teleported across the Aevum Inch, eventually finding a megaverse a great distance from the Human Trio. There were only a few intelligent lifeforms in the megaverse, indicating that it had likely been reset or its civilization destroyed.

Lu Yin stood in outer space and raised a hand. Specks of starlight scattered, and the gray power of time flowed forth. With a casual wave of the hand, a branch of the River of Aeons appeared. Along its banks, a Mirari Realm also appeared. Upon the river itself, a small boat could be clearly seen. The boat’s occupant was a strange-looking creature.

Lu Yin looked at it. Was this the ferryman of the River of Aeons for this megaverse? Apparently, Ni Bieluo had not done anything to it.

The small boat swayed atop the River of Aeons. Facing Lu Yin, the odd-looking ferryman immediately prostrated itself, feeling extreme terror.

Lu Yin’s aura caused it to tremble. This was an Immortal being. There was no doubt that this was an Immortal being.

“Have you seen this creature?” Lu Yin drew Ni Bieluo’s appearance in the empty space before him.

That ferryman of the River of Aeons took one look and respectfully replied, “I have. It comes here every so often.”

“Where does it go?”

“The forbidden region.”

“Which forbidden region?”

The ferryman found this a strange question but nonetheless answered, “There is only one forbidden region in the Mirari Realm.”

Lu Yin looked at the Mirari Realm. The time mist dispersed, and he was able to observe the forbidden region. Was there only this one forbidden region in this Mirari Realm? “Are there Mirari Realms with several forbidden regions?”

The ferryman respectfully replied, “There should be, though I have never seen one.”

“Do you know about regressing to the ancient era?” Lu Yin suddenly asked.

The ferryman was shocked by the question, and it immediately grew uneasy. “I have heard of it. It is a road of no return.”

“Has no creature truly ever returned?”

“None that I know of.”

“Where did you learn what you know?”

“The River of Aeons’ main stream.”

Lu Yin stared at the creature. “Can you gain information from the River of Aeons’ main stream?”

The ferryman was willing to answer every one of Lu Yin’s questions. “The branches of the River of Aeons are inherently linked to the main stream, so it can be peered into.”

“Then what does it mean to regress to the ancient era?”

“To do so is to go against the flow of the River of Aeons. The ancient era refers to the origin of the River of Aeons’ main stream. Those who serve as ferrymen for branch streams cannot step onto the main stream of the River of Aeons unless they are drawn to it, so our knowledge is limited.”

“Have you ever seen a creature like me?”

The ferryman stared at Lu Yin. “No.”

Although humanity had once been a glorious civilization, the number of civilizations throughout the Aevum Inch were as numerous as the stars in a universe. It was impossible for every civilization to have seen humans. The stronger the civilization, the harder it was for those weaker to encounter it.

It was no different from how Lu Yin could observe ants but ants could not observe him.

“When will that creature return?” Lu Yin was asking about Ni Bieluo, as this ferryman had to know.

The creature thought for a moment. “In less than 10,000 years.”

“Be more precise.”

“It does not appear on a fixed schedule.”

Lu Yin guessed that Ni Bieluo might not be able to return within that timeframe. The Divine Realm had fled, and it was possible that the Mudwater Dominion might flee as well. This region of the Aevum Inch was very chaotic.

He stepped forward and entered the Mirari Realm. This was the second Mirari Realm that he had ever visited.

The River of Aeons, as a river, naturally had banks, and the Mirari Realm was on those banks. However, the banks of the River of Aeons in the megaverses that Lu Yin had visited before had had no forbidden region. Everything could be seen through with a mere glance, so there was little reason to visit those Mirari Realms.

Staring at the forbidden region before him, Lu Yin picked up his feet and stepped inside. Now, there was no forbidden region he could not set foot in.

That included the forbidden regions of the Mirari Realm in the Tianyuan. It was only because of his karmic chain that Lu Yin was wary of taking risks.

Looking around, he found nothing at all, aside from a square stone that stood before him. All four of its sides were smooth.

He approached the stone and found that its surface actually reflected his appearance. A mirror? It looked like stone, and yet it reflected the light. When he reached out a hand to touch it, it felt cold and heavy, like metal.

All that Ni Que knew was that Ni Bieluo had comprehended Endless Recall in this place, but it did not know how.

Lu Yin observed his reflection on the stone, sat down cross-legged, and gazed at the stone with a calm expression.

After an unknown amount of time, Lu Yin suddenly reached out and placed a hand on the stone. His reflected image distorted and started to change. One scene after another played out, showing things that had once happened. The moment a thought appeared in his mind, the memories appeared on the stone.

This stone was not a mirror. It did not reflect his appearance, but rather his thoughts. Whatever appeared in one’s heart would be reflected on the stone, as though looking into a mirror.

It was truly miraculous.

Endless Recall, one thought eternal. When Ni Bieluo used Endless Recall, even Death's Dominion had been locked in place. However, it was not the skeleton’s body that had been fixed, but rather their minds that had become transfixed within a single thought. Only now did Lu Yin see the truth clearly.

This was the truth of Endless Recall. If the gap between two opponents was too great, this technique could leave one forever trapped within a single thought, as if life was repeating endlessly.

Lu Yin closed his eyes and quietly comprehended this ability.

Still atop the branch of the River of Aeons, the ferryman felt bitter. It did not dare to confront an Immortal being. Everything was because of that forbidden region. How could it have been unlucky for a forbidden region to appear here? If it did not exist, there would absolutely never be any Immortal beings coming to make trouble.

Ferrymen differed from one another. Some wanted to break into the Immortal realm themselves so that they could live freely and completely break away from their branch of the River of Aeons. Some simply wanted to remain with their River of Aeons and watch civilizations rise and fall like the changing tides.

Those individuals did not want any changes, but not even ferrymen could decide their own lives.

In the forbidden region, an unknown amount of time passed before Lu Yin slowly opened his eyes and murmured to himself, “People are like kindling. So long as the flame does not die, people are not forgotten, and the art cannot be broken.

“Endless Recall’s value is comparable to an entire civilization. Unfortunately, Ni Bieluo does not understand its true value.”

Humans were emotional creatures, which was why they cared about the inheritance of their civilization. However, Ni Bieluo did not care about such things. It was the Mudwater Dominion. As long as it existed, its civilization would exist.

In truth, Endless Recall was like the Star Fist. It was a battle technique that was suited to being a civilization’s legacy, not an individual combat technique. At best, Ni Bieluo could bring out half of its effect, but it could never truly master the technique.

Still, Ni Bieluo was quite lucky, as this technique had allowed it to comprehend the power of karma.

Lu Yin did not want to just master this battle technique, but he hoped to also use it to peer into Ni Bieluo’s understanding of karma. However, that would not be easy. Lu Yin already had his own understanding of karma, and wanting to understand another aspect of it through this technique meant that his existing mastery of karma had actually become something of an obstacle.

To a certain extent, he believed that his own understanding of karma surpassed Ni Bieluo’s, which made it very difficult for him to comprehend Ni Bieluo’s understanding of karma.

Unless... Lu Yin teleported away.

A short time later, he returned with his skeleton clone and had it cultivate Endless Recall to see if he could use his clone to comprehend karma.

Both his original body and his clones were Lu Yin, so there was no removing the obstacle that was his current understanding of karma. Fortunately, the clone did not have his Karmic Dao, which meant that the obstruction was relatively smaller. This was all that he could do.

Of course, he also shared the location of the megaverse with Greater Sancte Green Lotus, just in case the man also wanted to learn this battle technique.

Of everyone in their human civilization, only Green Lotus and Lu Yin had any chance of comprehending karma from Endless Recall, using that to deduce the ability of karmic designation, and then attempt to apply that to transferring karmic chains. Even if others mastered Endless Recall and comprehended karma, they could not do anything more.

That was because they already possessed a path of karma.

More than 300 years passed. More than three centuries had passed since the war against the Trio, as well as since Joy City had waged war against Void Mountain.

Since then, Joy City had always moved in the same direction across the Aevum Inch, and finally, it entered a region where it was within range of the Abyssal Displacement.

Ancestor Lu Yuan took Lu Yin’s skeleton clone over and stared at Joy City from afar. “Be careful with everything.”

Lu Yin nodded. “Don’t worry.”

With that, Ancestor Lu Yuan took the skeleton and teleported into a megaverse occupied by a civilization that lay in Joy City’s path.

When Joy City approached, war erupted. Skeletons and white bones charged into the megaverse, and Lu Yin then followed those skeletons and bones back to Joy City. Everything appeared to have happened naturally.

The music of Withered Requiem did not sound harsh to Lu Yin at this moment. On the contrary, it stirred his emotions.

He had finally returned to Joy City. He stood atop countless shattered bones that covered the ground as he looked around. More than 300 years had passed. It was not a short amount of time. Fishbone and the others had surely confirmed his death, and the Dream Band had likely disbanded as well.
