Chapter 4537: Murderous Intent In The Darkness
Fishbone looked up at the stars and then at Lu Yin, who was nearby. The fish skeleton finally looked up again. "Well, brother, about what we talked about before... my mirebound artifact. How do we get it back?"
Lu Yin was puzzled. "What mirebound artifact?"
Fishbone froze and stared at Lu Yin. "Didn’t we say before that we would challenge Withered Requiem with music and that, if we won, you would help me get my mirebound artifact back? Brother, you haven’t forgotten about that, have you?"
Lu Yin replied, "Didn’t I say that you are also a member of the Dream Band?"
"Yes."
"The Dream Band defeated the Death Band. I am the master of Joy City, and you are also the master, right?"
Fishbone thought for a moment. "Right."
"Then can’t you just go ask Withered Requiem for the Building Blocks yourself?" Lu Yin continued.
Fishbone was stunned. That logic was sound, but something about it felt very wrong. It had felt wrong before too.
All along, Lu Yin had been the one in charge of the Dream Band. He had gathered the band’s members, and he had also been the one to defeat Withered Requiem. So, everyone treated him as the leader of the band as well as the current master of Joy City. Because of this, when Lu Yin had proposed challenging Withered Requiem repeatedly, Fishbone had subconsciously come to think that the human skeleton would help it reclaim its mirebound artifact.
But what was going on now?
Lu Yin raised a hand and patted Fishbone. "You are the master of Joy City. The affairs of Joy City are your affairs, and Joy City is also yours, which means that Building Blocks is even more so yours. Go ask for it yourself. Everyone needs to take responsibility for themselves. Don’t place your hopes on others."
Fishbone left, utterly dazed by Lu Yin's words. His words sounded very reasonable, but Fishbone still felt that something was off.
Zhou came over. "Are you leaving?"
Lu Yin did not deny it.
"I saw you staring out into space the whole time. You are waiting for the Abyssal Displacement as well, aren’t you? If I am not mistaken, you are going to Thousand Machinations' Abyss," Zhou continued.
Lu Yin knew that Zhou was actually very clever and persistent. The Immortal was simply not very communicative. "Boss Zhou, thank you for helping me."
Zhou replied, "We are both creatures of Revolution Planet. This is only right."
No matter how clever Zhou might be, they could have never imagined that Lu Yin was not actually from their native megaverse. Lu Yin’s ability to Possess others by rolling six pips with his die was simply too absurd. How could there be anything wrong with words that matched a creature’s own memories?
Lu Yin looked at Zhou. If he had not encountered them in Joy City, it was possible that, when Lu Yin eventually faced the Death Megaverse in the future, Zhou would have just been another skeleton that he personally eliminated.
Revolution Planet? Some creatures did not care about their own civilizations, while others cared about their own kind just as much as humans.
Lu Yin smiled at Zhou. "I will come back. The Dream Band will never disappear."
Zhou was delighted by that response. "I will wait for you."
In the distance, Yong Heng and Zhu were also staring off into space. Lu Yin was actually very eager to eliminate both of them, especially Yong Heng, but there was simply no way to do so while in Joy City.
Ever since the Dream Band defeated the Death Band, Joy City had grown quiet for once. There was no blasting music from the castle. Only the skeletons within the castle were able to hear the Death Band's music now.
Twenty years quickly passed. One day, Withered Requiem walked out and had all of the creatures of the Abyss lie down. The Abyssal Displacement was about to happen again.
Lu Yin had waited for this day. He quietly stood atop the castle and peered upwards.
As the Abyssal Displacement manifested once more, he leaped up and entered it on his own. Glancing back, he saw Zhou, Fishbone, the others, and Withered Requiem.
Sooner or later, he would return. Without realizing it, Joy City had become a place that he belonged to. This Abyss had become an important turning point in his transformation.
Fishbone's tail drooped. Lu Yin was gone, and with him, the Dream Band was gone as well.
The Death Band would definitely make a comeback. Their Dream Band would not continue to act as the masters of Joy City, even though it was only a title. During their years as the masters, they had never interfered with Joy City, which had continued moving along its predetermined path.
At this moment, Yong Heng leaped up from where he stood beside Fishbone and also entered the Abyssal Displacement.
Fishbone was startled. "Hey, Yong Heng, what are you doing?"
Zhu was also surprised. What is this guy trying to do?
No one had expected Yong Heng to enter the Abyssal Displacement, but Withered Requiem did not stop him. That was because the Dream Band was still in charge of Joy City. Lu Yin could leave, and so could Yong Heng. Of course, if other skeletons wanted to leave via the Abyssal Displacement, they would need the Dream Band's approval, just like how they had needed Withered Requiem’s approval in the past.
Yong Heng vanished into the Abyssal Displacement in the blink of an eye. Zhu stared out in a daze, recalling what had been said before about a gate appearing from their bones and how a member of Obscura had walked out of it.
That had been the Keeper of Balance. Obscura’s Keeper of Balance had left a contingency on Zhu’s bones. Yong Heng had been sent to Joy City just like Zhu, so there should still be some contingencies on Yong Heng as well.
Zhu had forgotten about that.
Still, just what was Yong Heng's contingency? At first, he had even stopped Zhu from speaking to Withered Requiem. Exactly what was he trying to do? The guy was a veteran traitor.
Already within the Abyssal Displacement, Lu Yin did not know that Yong Heng had also entered it. The Abyssal Displacement connected the various Abysses, and there were too many paths to choose from. Yong Heng might not be on the same path as Lu Yin’s skeleton clone.
If Lu Yin had known that Yong Heng would also enter the Abyssal Displacement, he might have taken the risk to kill him inside it.
The dense power of Stillness was far too familiar. Lu Yin had walked this same path twenty years ago.
Although Joy City was far from Thousand Machinations' Abyss, with the Abyssal Displacement, Lu Yin could arrive very quickly.
He peered ahead, wondering what the Abyss would be like, when a horrifying chill suddenly fell upon him. He felt like his scalp was going numb despite having no scalp. At this moment, his entire skeleton was trembling. This was an indescribable crisis.
Lu Yin looked up to see sharp black talons descending upon him. They had appeared without warning. The attack was so sudden and so unbelievable. Something had actually managed to precisely locate and attack him while he was traveling along the Abyssal Displacement. Those talons also looked very familiar. Despite being made of bone, Lu Yin knew that these were the talons of a Plume Immortal.
He had once snapped Gao Tian's talons one by one. Lu Yin was far too familiar with these things.
Dark Prisonbone.
The black talons fell in an instant, reaching out to seize Lu Yin.
Lu Yin could not see his attacker’s entire body. All he could see were the sharp talons and a cold gleam.
He used the Cosmic Art. Stars revolved, and all of his Stillness surged out. He raised both hands, and Activeness and Stillness instantly merged: Duality Seal. It was the strongest attack that he could instantly use.
The black talons entered the range of the Cosmic Art. Stars shattered one after another, offering no resistance at all. The talons reached towards Lu Yin's extended hands, and even before contact was made, the Duality Seal collapsed. That destruction was followed by the bone hands, the arms, until finally, the talons pierced Lu Yin's skeletal body. He was lifted up by a tremendous force before he was casually flung away.
Lu Yin did not even know what had happened. The gap between his clone and Dark Prisonbone was far, far too great, even greater than the gap between his true body and Death's Dominion when the Trio had been attacked. On top of that, Dark Prisonbone had ambushed Lu Yin, which left him utterly stunned.
All he could see was darkness flowing past him, followed by a dim sky. After that, the sky and ground both fell away.
A low voice reached his ears. "It is already ruined. I will pay whatever price must be paid. Just treat this material as if it does not exist."
Bang!
With a loud crash, Lu Yin fell unconscious. Countless bone fragments scattered away from him.
He had fallen into a deep, dark underground space. In addition to Lu Yin's skeleton clone and all its broken fragments, there were countless other bones that filled the land without end. From time to time, there would be a flash of light, adding a thread of brightness to the dark place, only to vanish in an instant.
This was Thousand Machinations' Abyss. Lu Yin had arrived in a completely different manner than what he had imagined.
The place itself was also different from what he had imagined.
After an unknown amount of time, his consciousness recovered. He wanted to move, but he could hardly even twitch. Both of his arm bones had been shattered, and there was a huge gaping hole in his torso. He was surrounded by the scattered shards of his own bones.
He turned his neck to look to the side in both directions. He saw the bones, bones, and more broken fragments of bones.
Where is this?
He struggled to remember what had happened. While traveling along the Abyssal Displacement, he had been ambushed by Dark Prisonbone and flung to this place. Also, he seemed to have heard something, but what?
Right. He remembered. Those words should have been spoken by Dark Prisonbone. But who had they been addressing?
Material? Could it have been Thousand Machinations?
In the deep and dark underground space, Lu Yin had no idea how long he might have laid there for. Had he been abandoned?
The truth was that, as soon as he had been attacked by Dark Prisonbone, Lu Yin had considered arriving with his true body, but only for a brief moment. There had simply been no time. Even if his true body arrived, his skeleton clone would have already shattered, and his arrival definitely would have drawn the Death Megaverse's attention.
The only thing that he could realistically have done at that time was hope that his clone would not be completely destroyed. As long as it was not completely killed, there would still be hope.
Although it was only a clone, at this moment, the skeleton clone was completely different from the unimportant existence that he had treated it as at first.
After his true body broke through to the Immortal realm, he was no longer able to create such clones. This skeleton clone was something left behind from before that breakthrough. At present, even if Lu Yin wanted to create another skeleton clone, it would inevitably be an Immortal, and it would similarly be bound by a karmic chain.
That bit of freedom was what made this clone so precious.
Lu Yin struggled to sit up. His arms were shattered, and his chest had been pierced through. Fortunately, the skeleton had not been completely broken. The three plates of black armor were also still stuck to his bones.
They were Lu Yin's precautionary measure. Even during the contest to determine the next Abyssal, he had not lost the plates of armor because he had embedded them into his very bones in advance.
Using them as actual armor had only ever been a cover, but this time, that armor had been shattered even more thoroughly than before.
The Stillness and Activeness that he had etched into bones had both been dispersed. What about the Cosmic Art? He tried to activate it, but it had been destroyed as well. All of the stars of Stillness had been shattered. He had released all of his power at that moment, only for it all to be reduced to nothing.
If he were given more Stillness at this moment, he would be able to recover, but it seemed to be impossible to absorb Stillness in this place. Even if there was any present, it was scattered, just like the wilderness outside of the castle in Joy City.
How long would it take for him to replenish his reserves?
Lu Yin felt frustrated. His shattered bones could be mended and restored, and he could slowly absorb and recover more Stillness, but doing so required far too much time.
Would Thousand Machinations grant him that time?
Why had Dark Prisonbone attacked him? Was it because of Great Golden Wings?
No one knew that this skeleton was Lu Yin. Even if Dark Prisonbone had wanted to avenge the Plume Immortals, it should not have been able to find him. The only possible explanation was that the Abyssal had wanted to avenge Great Golden Wings.
Lu Yin looked up and saw the ceiling of the cavern. His Mirrorlight Art allowed him to see far into the distance, but his vision was blocked by the ceiling. He was prevented from peering into the outside world. This was the sealed underground of an Abyss.
He did not know how long he had lain there unconscious. He examined himself and saw a thick layer of dust on his leg bones. It appeared that quite some time had passed. Thousand Machinations had not taken him out of this space. He had been truly abandoned by the Abyssal, hadn’t he?
