Chapter 4542: Method
Thousand Machinations sized Lu Yin up. “Have you reached your limit?”
Lu Yin nodded. With no flesh or blood, his mien was completely expressionless. If not for being an expressionless skeleton, he was not sure if he could hide himself in front of someone as intelligent as Thousand Machinations.
As for whether this bear could see if Lu Yin had indeed reached his limit, that did not matter. He simply would not admit it.
“More than I expected,” Thousand Machinations commented.
Lu Yin sighed. “It was also more than I imagined.”
“I have even more right here. Do you want to snatch it away?” Thousand Machinations teased.
Lu Yin was speechless. Just how badly did this bear want him to try to rob it? It kept tempting him, and he had to admit that he really did want to steal the Three Deaths Art.
Hmm? Why do I hear waves?
“Thousand Machinations, are you still not ready? Or can you not find a translator? Do you want me to send you one?” an unfamiliar voice asked, accompanied by the sound of waves.
Thousand Machinations slowly turned to the side. Behind it, a blurry, illusory ocean could be seen. It was very small, only the size of a hand, but the moment that Lu Yin saw it, he felt that it was boundless and possessed a surging might. What is that?
Thousand Machinations knocked a paw against its fist, producing a soft sound.
At the same time, a voice reached Lu Yin's ears. He heard it, addressed the illusory ocean, and then reported a location.
These were coordinates that used the Death Megaverse as a point of reference, so Lu Yin was not sure where he was in relation to the Human Trio.
However, all of the Abyssals who heard the location understood where it was.
When Lu Yin's voice spread through the Nethersea, Old Sixth immediately greeted him. “You finally came out. Did your potential increase, human?”
Withered Requiem was surprised. “Yo yo, aren’t you the leader of the Dream Band? You went to Thousand Machinations' Abyss?”
“A human skeleton?” Another unfamiliar voice rang out, one that was completely unfamiliar to Lu Yin. “Thousand Machinations, you actually found a human to serve as your translator?”
Lu Yin heard voices from above the Nethersea, each one belonging to one of the Death Megaverse’s Abyssals.
At this moment, Dark Prisonbone must be very surprised to learn that I’m not ruined.
Thump.
Thousand Machinations tapped its palm. The sound was made not to speak to Lu Yin, but rather to inform the others that it had spoken.
In fact, before it made the sound, Thousand Machinations had already communicated with Lu Yin.
Lu Yin slowly said, “What’s wrong with being human?” Thousand Machinations glanced at Lu Yin. What it had sent out was, “Humans are pretty good too.”
How had the translation changed?
“You should know how special human civilization is. You cannot give them any opportunity,” the unfamiliar voice replied.
When Thousand Machinations provided its answer, it had also told Lu Yin that this unfamiliar voice belonged to Ruinfall.
It seemed that Ruinfall was extremely prejudiced against humanity. In truth, any civilization that had fought against the Nine Ramparts held a powerful grudge against all human civilizations. The only difference was how strong their prejudice was.
Clearly, Ruinfall was just like the Plume Immortals, holding great enmity against humanity.
At this moment, Lu Yin thought of Great Golden Wings’ words. Ruinfall was about to disappear. The Death Megaverse had already done everything it could to help protect this Abyssal from the River of Aeons’ main stream.
“I do not involve myself in such matters. He is merely my experimental subject.” These were the words that Thousand Machinations transmitted to Lu Yin.
Lu Yin’s voice then entered the Nethersea. “He is merely my experimental subject. This has nothing to do with you.”
Thousand Machinations gave Lu Yin a strange look. The meaning of his words was correct, but why did it sound so wrong?
Lu Yin remained calm.
From above the Nethersea, Ruinfall's voice clearly grew louder. “You and I both belong to the Death Megaverse. How can it have nothing to do with me? Do you perhaps hope for another Nine Ramparts to appear?”
“You are thinking too much.” These were the words Thousand Machinations transmitted. After sending them, Thousand Machinations stared at Lu Yin.
Lu Yin remained perfectly calm. “You’re overthinking it.”
There were no issues with this translation. Thousand Machinations looked away.
Old Sixth said, “Whoever Thousand Machinations chooses as its translator is its own business. Ruinfall, mind yourself. I heard that you’re almost at your end.”
A deep voice then spoke. This one belonged to Nethersea Suppression. “How much longer?”
Ruinfall replied, “Any moment.”
“Is there no way to extend things?” Nethersea Suppression asked.
Ruinfall did not answer.
“Yo yo, is there going to be another competition for the position of Abyssal? Obscura has undergone great changes recently. Will our Death Megaverse’s Abyssals also undergo great changes?”
“Thousand Machinations, is there any way to buy more time?” Nethersea Suppression suddenly asked.
Thump.
“I cannot think of a way,” Thousand Machinations replied before looking at Lu Yin.
Lu Yin translated, “It is very difficult.”
“How great a possibility?” Ruinfall asked.
“There is no possibility. We cannot oppose the power of the Primacy Path.” Thousand Machinations transmitted to Lu Yin.
Lu Yin translated, “Very slim. We cannot oppose the power of the Primacy Path.”
Thousand Machinations stared at Lu Yin. Why did this guy keep changing its words? Although the meaning was essentially the same, it was still different.
“No matter how slim it is, I must try. What method is there?” Ruinfall asked urgently.
Thousand Machinations transmitted, “It is impossible to accomplish. I cannot think of any method.”
After saying that, it stared at Lu Yin.
Lu Yin appeared perfectly at ease as he stared at the illusory sea. “Stop dreaming.”
Thousand Machinations frowned. “You changed my words.”
“The meaning is the same. I don’t like speaking too much.”
“The implications are different.”
“What is different? As long as the meaning is right, that is enough.”
Thousand Machinations stared at Lu Yin but said nothing more.
Above the Nethersea, Ruinfall sternly shouted, “That is not how Thousand Machinations speaks! It never speaks in such a tone! Human, did you translate correctly or not?”
Old Sixth had also picked up on that. They understood Thousand Machinations all too well. Although the bear could not be considered polite and would occasionally force others into difficult positions, it would absolutely never use such a tone when speaking to others. Stop dreaming? That was simply not something that Thousand Machinations would say.
The Nethersea boiled, and Nethersea Suppression's voice became extremely stern. “Human, do not distort Thousand Machinations’ meaning. Otherwise, I will reduce you to ashes.”
Lu Yin casually replied, “Lord Thousand Machinations’ meaning is exactly that. It’s possible that every translator conveys the meaning differently.”
Old Sixth laughed. “True, every creature does have its own characteristics.”
Lu Yin agreed.
“Your characteristic is that the way you speak will easily get you beaten,” Old Sixth added on. They had always felt that way about the human skeleton, especially when Lu Yin told stories. They had no logic at all.
Lu Yin was left speechless.
Ruinfall spoke up, “Human, translate word by word. Do not change the order of the words, or else you will face consequences that you cannot bear.
“The words themselves cannot be changed either.”
Lu Yin did not argue, as it was not his place to protest. This was the Death Megaverse, not Obscura. He was merely serving as Thousand Machinations’ translator and had no individual autonomy.
If Thousand Machinations agreed to let Lu Yin say whatever he wanted, he could fool these Abyssals into waging war against Obscura.
“Human, ask Thousand Machinations. I was the better translator, wasn’t I? Haha.” Old Sixth was pleased with themself.
Lu Yin looked at Thousand Machinations, who answered seriously, “Quite good.”
Lu Yin translated, “Passable.”
Old Sixth was confused. “?”
“You changed my words again.” Thousand Machinations stared at Lu Yin.
Lu Yin explained, “This is how people from my hometown speak. It’s what I’m used to.”
“Do not change even a single word,” Thousand Machinations warned.
Lu Yin nodded, looking rather obedient.
Ruinfall's voice came from above the Nethersea once again. “Thousand Machinations, is there any way to help me protect myself from the main stream of the River of Aeons? Is there, or is there not?”
Thousand Machinations did not hesitate. “No.”
This time, Lu Yin stayed honest. “No.”
Ruinfall was unwilling to accept this answer. “Human, are you translating seriously or not?”
Lu Yin clenched his jaw. “Very seriously.”
“Did Thousand Machinations really say that?”
“What do you want it to say?”
“I am the one asking you.” Ruinfall was absolutely furious. “Do not force me to take back your Stillness! Do not think that being able to speak in the Nethersea makes you an Abyssal. Know your place!”
Lu Yin said, “Yes, Lord Ruinfall.”
“I am asking you—”
Before Ruinfall could finish, it was interrupted by Nethersea Suppression. “If Thousand Machinations knew a way, this human would not dare to translate recklessly. There truly is no way.
“Ruinfall, I know that you are unwilling to accept this. I have a way.”
Ruinfall was caught off guard. “You have a way? What is it?”
Nethersea Suppression's voice was deep and resonant. “Create an opportunity that the Primacy Path cannot ignore and then use that opportunity to deceive it and redirect the pull of the River of Aeons.”
When Lu Yin heard this, his heart stirred. Power of the Primacy Path? It seemed to refer to things like the main River of Aeons and the higher karmic power.
Not even Immortals could peer into the powers that operated throughout the entire Aevum Inch. This was the power of the Primacy Path.
“Is that even feasible?” Ruinfall asked.
Nethersea Suppression answered, “It can be attempted.”
“Thousand Machinations, what do you say?” Ruinfall asked.
Old Sixth rolled their eyes. “Why do you all ask Thousand Machinations about everything? It was the same when I was translating for it. Thousand Machinations can’t even speak, and yet I ended up being the one who spoke the most.”
Ruinfall shouted, “Shut up! I am addressing Thousand Machinations!”
Lu Yin looked at the bear. This fellow clearly had a very special status in the Death Megaverse. It had created the Death Codex, so it made sense that the other Abyssals would ask it about something like this.
Thousand Machinations asked, “How exactly would it be done?”
Lu Yin offered a direct translation.
Nethersea Suppression said in a low voice, “Use a hundred branches of the River of Aeons to simultaneously draw upon the main River of Aeons, and through that, let the main River of Aeons guide the release of Ruinfall’s full power.”
Thousand Machinations raised a paw to rub its head. “Feasible, but that will still require a catalyst.”
Lu Yin again translated truthfully.
“Yo yo, what catalyst?” Withered Requiem was curious.
Thousand Machinations explained, “A catalyst that cannot be ignored no matter how great the number becomes. Only such a catalyst can divert the attention of the Primacy Path away from Ruinfall.”
Ruinfall spoke up, “There is one. That fellow.”
Nethersea Suppression asked, “The one who harmed you?”
Ruinfall sneered. “By harming me, they also harmed themself.”
Thousand Machinations continued to explain, “If there is a catalyst, then this method is indeed feasible. It would be best to also have enough shielding material, such as the Grand Clarity Civilization’s primal talismans. Materials that can shield sourcebox arrays would be the most suitable.”
An unfamiliar voice then spoke up. This was Lu Yin’s first time hearing it; it was Devouring Trace’s voice. “Primal talismans are made from an extremely rare material. Over countless years, I have attacked many Immortal beings with my fragments, yet I have not obtained much. The main reason is that the material takes too much time to form. However, if we can find the Grand Clarity Civilization, we may be able to obtain a vast amount.”
