Chapter 4565: Color

Chapter 4565: Color

Furball opened the gate and watched Lu Yin step through it before following behind him.

The multicolored Divine Tree was truly enormous, and divine energy flowed down from it, gathering into a river that poured down endlessly.

Looking down, there was a bottomless abyss, but at this distance, Lu Yin could see it clearly. The depths were filled with endless gates and countless floating coffins.

His skeleton clone had no divine energy, so upon arriving, the heavy ambient divine energy pressed down upon him. It created an indescribable sense of discomfort.

He looked up. One floating coffin after another hung along the cliffs. When the consciousness of his true body entered this place, it must be within one of those coffins.

He truly wanted to open them all and see what the various members of Obscura actually looked like. He was curious about Black, White, Old Man Hehe, and even more curious about Ba Se.

But even now, he still could not see any of them clearly.

Lan Meng had clearly been a member of Obscura, just the same as the others. However, that creature had been far, far inferior to them.

Lu Yin lifted his head to look around Vestigium. Within the coffins floating in Vestigium, there were gazes also examining him, but all that any of them saw was a blur.

"Hehe, Ba Se, is this to say that you do not trust us? You won’t let us even see the new one?" Old Man Hehe asked.

Ba Se replied, "None of you have ever revealed your true bodies to one another. At the very least, you will not expose them in this place."

"This little fellow is quite capable. This is the first time our Obscura has admitted a skeleton from the Death Megaverse. How interesting." Old Man Hehe laughed.

The Immortal Lord's voice rang out. "Is he going to choose divine energy?"

"That is correct. This is a necessary step. So far, only you and that Lu Yin brat are exceptions," Old Man Hehe answered.

Furball instantly grew irritated. "Why should only they be exceptions? Immortal Lord, it is time for you to choose your divine energy."

Immortal Lord did not answer.

Wang Wen spoke up, "Is your name Chen?"

No other member of Obscura could hear his question.

Lu Yin lifted his head, but since he did not know where to look, he could only stare at the cliff. "Yes."

"Are you willing to join Obscura?" The other members heard this question.

"I am."

"Obviously. Would he have come here if he wasn’t willing?" Furball muttered.

Wang Wen ignored the attitude. "What are your thoughts concerning Obscura and the Death Megaverse?"

Lu Yin did not know how to answer that question. Wang Wen was far too familiar with him, and he had certain speaking habits that even he was unaware of but which Wang Wen would clearly recognize.

Lu Yin stayed silent. No one urged him to speak. Everyone was waiting for his answer.

He finally looked up at the cliff. "I do not know."

"You don’t know?"

"Hehe."

Lu Yin continued, "I do not know Obscura, so I do not know how to answer."

Wang Wen said, "You can compare the two in terms of power. You possess a great deal of the Death Megaverse's Stillness, so now, experience divine energy."

Furball suddenly interjected, "Since he is going to choose his divine energy, shouldn’t a certain person hand over those lines?"

"Hehe, that does make sense."

"Choose? What does that mean?" Lu Yin asked.

Furball explained, "There are many colors of divine energy. You must choose one for yourself."

"Green," Lu Yin answered without hesitation.

"Green?" Furball was surprised.

Ba Se was also taken aback. "You want to choose green?"

Lu Yin nodded. "Yes, green."

"Why?" Furball was curious.

"Because Withered Requiem's hat is green."

Vestigium fell silent for a moment. Briefly, no one actually knew how to respond to such a statement.

Ultimately, Ba Se spoke up, "What does Withered Requiem's hat have to do with the color of divine energy you choose?"

Lu Yin answered in a very somber tone, "I don’t know. I just want to choose green, and the first thing that came to mind was Withered Requiem's hat."

Furball interjected, "The one who granted him Bone Script was Withered Requiem."

Old Man Hehe was quite interested. "Does granting a creature Bone Script also pass along one's own preferences? I have never heard of that before."

"Speaking of which, Withered Requiem's green hat is quite glaring," Wang Wen spoke, likely staring at Lu Yin, "What if there is no green? What color would you choose then?"

Lu Yin thought for a moment. "Red."

"Red? Why?" Furball was curious.

"Because that is the color of blood. I lost that color far too long ago."

The line of red divine energy was with his true body. Choosing red would conflict with the colors controlled by his true body, and that would force him to visit Vestigium and turn over the line of red divine energy. That was clearly not something that Lu Yin wanted.

Even so, this was the only answer that he could give to Wang Wen's question. Choosing green was too convenient of a coincidence. You Che had recently died, leaving behind the line of green divine energy. It was one of the colors that Lu Yin’s true body did not control. Choosing that color was unquestionably ideal for Lu Yin. If anyone analyzed the matter even briefly and considered the standpoint of Obscura, the skeleton’s reasons for choosing green was either the somewhat laughable reason he had given or the fact that he was already aware that the line of green divine energy was in Vestigium.

There was no third possibility.

Randomly choosing a color? If that was the case, then he should not have spoken before choosing. He had spoken too decisively.

That was why Lu Yin felt that Wang Wen's second question might have been a test. The man might not suspect that Chen was Lu Yin, but there was always the problem of beings overthinking matters. The more that one considered something, the more possibilities that would appear. That was why Lu Yin had immediately answered red with a just as unconvincing reason. Even so, both of his reasons for choosing the colors seemed somewhat understandable.

Without any additional information, the possibility of anyone making a connection between the skeleton clone and Lu Yin’s true body was extremely low, and after this choice, it dropped even lower.

Black’s voice rang out. This was the first time they spoke. "Can a color be chosen before worshipping the Divine Tree? That somewhat breaks the rules, does it not?"

Ba Se answered, "I did not ask him to choose; he stated his choice on his own. It just happens to correspond to an available color."

The Immortal Lord said, "Then there is no need to choose. He only needs to worship the Divine Tree, correct?"

In truth, they had wanted green themself, because that was the only color line that was currently available. However, before the Immortal Lord had been able to say anything, Lu Yin's clone had beaten them to it.

Ba Se hesitated. "According to the rules, the color of divine energy must be chosen while worshiping the Divine Tree, but now that the choice has already been made, there is no need to waste time. Choosing a color of divine energy also means that the line of divine energy is choosing the individual. He chose green without hesitation. Even if he were allowed to choose again, just like any of you, his choice would remain the same."

Wang Wen calmly asked, "Or, you could go find Lu Yin and have him return the lines of divine energy. Of course, that’s only if he is willing."

"Does he even get a choice?" Furball sneered.

Wang Wen smiled. "Do I need to remind you all that Lu Yin's strength means that he has the ability to trade his life for any of yours? Which of you is willing to go?"

"Hehe, if things followed the rules, refusing to hand over lines of divine energy would mean becoming an enemy of all of Obscura, as it is breaking the rules. Now, this little fellow chooses green, the one not with Lu Yin. If we still try to force him to hand over the lines of divine energy in his possession, we would be much too inflexible," Old Man Hehe said.

Lu Yin had been just listening to the conversation, but he quickly interjected at this point. "Is the line of green divine energy here? I only want green. As for whom you want to force to hand over anything, that has nothing to do with me. I don’t want to cause any trouble."

Trouble. Hearing that left Furball silent.

That was too accurate. That human was indeed trouble. Furball might be able to occasionally frustrate or upset Lu Yin, but they could not afford to become a true enemy. If Furball did that, they would be the one to have run out of luck.

Although Lu Yin could only take action one more time, the Human Trio itself was also not easy to deal with either. Even before Lu Yin’s breakthrough to the Immortal realm, that human civilization had endured for so long despite being attacked by so many peak experts. That entire civilization could not be casually provoked.

Forget it. There’s no need to ask for that much trouble.

No one said anything further.

Lu Yin had spoken up as a reminder for Furball. That creature truly disgusted him. They kept trying to stir up trouble for Lu Yin for no reason. Given the chance, he would definitely teach Furball a proper lesson.

Since no one objected, Ba Se confirmed that Lu Yin's skeleton clone would be granted the green line of divine energy.

Lu Yin looked at the green line as it descended from the Divine Tree. Had You Che truly died? Choosing green divine energy could also be considered a test. Although You Che had apparently died in Lu Yin’s knowledge, there was still something unreal about it. He could not help but feel that You Che might appear at any moment and seize Manifest City.

With the line of green divine energy in Vestigium, at the very least, Obscura had confirmed You Che’s death.

The line of divine energy floated quietly in the air, as though it were alive.

Lu Yin’s true body was very familiar with this power, but his skeleton clone was not. He had even deliberately separated out a divine energy clone in case he obtained a new line of divine energy in the future. He had not expected his skeleton clone to begin cultivating this power first.

No one could explain things like opportunity.

"Are you allowing him to cultivate divine energy right now? As soon as he does so, the Death Megaverse will notice, won’t it?" Furball asked.

Wang Wen indifferently replied, "Thousand Machinations will help him hide it."

His words left Vestigium silent once again. This was yet another demonstration of the Keeper of Balance’s methods. He was actually able to influence even an Abyssal of the Death Megaverse.

Lu Yin raised his head and stared at the cliff. Wang Wen, just how much are you hiding?

Taking a deep breath, he slowly reached up with a hand to touch the green line.

The line abruptly withdrew, vanishing in an instant as it entered the Divine Tree.

Lu Yin was startled. What did that mean?

Just as he was wondering, Ba Se spoke up. "Just now, we only allowed you to confirm the color that you are able to obtain. Now, whether the green divine energy line can ultimately belong to you requires you to worship the Divine Tree and personally cultivate divine energy.”

"This means that you must approach the Divine Tree and absorb divine energy, just as you have absorbed Stillness in the past. Once you have absorbed a certain amount, the green line will automatically enter your body. Do not worry, it is not much," Furball explained. They felt a sort of duty to act as a guide, as they were the one who had introduced the skeleton to Obscura.

And no matter what level this skeleton managed to achieve, Furball would see it as an accomplishment.

"Right, there is one thing that I need to remind you of: do not resist.

"Divine energy is very easy to cultivate. The more that you accept it, the easier it is to absorb. However, the more you resist, the harder it becomes to absorb," Furball finished.

Lu Yin looked at the Divine Tree ahead of him. Things were indeed as he had guessed. This was one of the reasons why he had always been unwilling to personally enter Vestigium.

How could cultivating divine energy not require a price? How could joining Obscura not require a price?

The more that one submitted, the more divine energy that they could absorb? Since this power possessed the ability to recognize acceptance and resistance, then it must also possess the ability to choose for itself. Just what kind of power was this divine energy of Obscura’s? Did it truly belong to them? Or was it like Stillness, belonging to a certain civilization? Was it possible that this energy was an extension of a specific creature?

In truth, these energies had always left Lu Yin uneasy. He could not help but feel that all such powers might one day disappear.

However, there was one detail that remained very strange. If all of this were true, there should be no traitors to Obscura among their numbers.
