Chapter 4592: Peak Lepidarch
A cosmic law that an Immortal resonated with was something that the being itself absolutely believed in, but that did not necessarily mean that it was true. As long as one believed it, one could comprehend the corresponding cosmic law, but belief was subjective. It was not something objective or proof of its existence.
The Lepidarch’s move stretched space out infinitely to divert force, and its understanding of the cosmos was that it had no limits.
However, regardless of distance or infinity, there always had to be a starting point.
As it happened, one of the cosmic laws that Old Sixth resonated with was Beginning.
All things had a beginning. The toad could see that beginning, target it, and weaken all power that came from that beginning.
Old Sixth had used this law when fighting against Devouring Trace, and at that time, Lu Yin had immediately thought of the Lepidarch.
At this moment, Butterfly Bloom appeared on his body, as well as on Old Sixth’s. These were from the three Immortal butterflies that were still on the Lepidarch’s back.
Lu Yin had almost forgotten about them. There were other Immortals accompanying the Lepidarch.
Last time, there had been four Immortal butterflies, but Lu Yin had captured one and thrown it through a gate to complete a mission for Obscura. That butterfly had been released afterwards. Lu Yin had assumed that it would reunite with the Lepidarch, but unexpectedly, there were still only three on the Lepidarch’s back.
“Senior, Old Sixth, get serious!” Lu Yin shouted.
Furball immediately poured divine energy into the sourcebox array that shrouded their form. The Grand Clarity sourcebox array activated, isolating them from Butterfly Bloom. Furball then raised both arms as cyan divine energy surged out, creating a cyan sky.
Old Sixth used their cosmic law while charging at the Lepidarch, their steel fork in hand. All across the toad’s body, Stillness activated their Grand Clarity array, likewise isolating them from Butterfly Bloom.
Infinite Expansion still prevented the toad from getting close to the butterfly, but cracks appeared on the Lepidarch’s wings. It had been attacked by Old Sixth.
Impossible! How can this toad actually attack me?
Furball used Green Firmament to create a gear that crashed towards the Lepidarch, entering the range of its Infinite Expansion ability as it drew ever closer to the Lepidarch.
Space was continuously stretched out, which created a deadlock. Old Sixth’s attack that targeted the beginning was meant to restrain Infinite Expansion. They were attacking the point of origin from which Infinite Expansion was being unleashed. The more that the toad attacked, the slower that Infinite Expansion stretched out space.
Meanwhile, the gear up above continued to move closer and closer to the Lepidarch. The crushing pressure of divine energy was incredibly intimidating to the butterfly.
Butterfly Bloom and Bloomdance Transfer both lost their effect.
Lu Yin used the Three Deaths Art. Endless darkness streaked across the space as a beam slashed at the Lepidarch: Cosmic Erasure.
This was an attack that released Stillness at the limit of Lu Yin’s own capacity. It consumed, in one burst, all the Stillness that the Cosmic Art could contain. Although Lu Yin’s mastery of Cosmic Erasure was far inferior to Withered Requiem’s, the staggering amount of Stillness that he had in reserve was simply too much. Quantity alone caused Lu Yin’s attack to be absolutely no weaker than Withered Requiem’s Cosmic Erasure.
A streak of light pierced the darkness. This was an Abyssal’s signature technique, and together with Old Sixth and the gear, Infinite Expansion was torn apart, and even the Lepidarch’s body was slashed open.
A steel fork pierced the void.
An azure gear slammed down.
The Lepidarch wailed. A wave of cyan divine energy swept over its enormous body, as did black Stillness. The butterfly looked so fragile that it might be ripped to bits at any moment, but no one present would underestimate it. The Lepidarch may look fragile, but its defenses were very impressive.
The only thing that the three attackers needed to pay attention to at this moment were the three Immortal butterflies on the Lepidarch’s back.
Old Sixth did not want to kill them, and Furball was even more hesitant to do so. Neither wanted their karmic chain to lengthen.
Lu Yin’s attacks were actually aimed more at the three Immortal butterflies, but they had disappeared.
Lu Yin, Old Sixth, and Furball took position at three different directions. They all stared at the Lepidarch.
“Again!” Lu Yin shouted.
Just as they were about to attack once more, a terrifying aura appeared. It kicked up a violent blast that swept out, forcing all three to retreat.
They stared on in shock.
The Lepidarch, still besieged by two powers, opened its wings and shattered the cyan gear above it while also fully enduring Lu Yin’s Cosmic Erasure and crushing Old Sixth’s steel fork. The butterfly let out a thunderous sound while a surge of power shot upwards with enough force to cause the cosmos to sway.
The butterfly’s wings started to multiply. There were two pairs, three pairs, four pairs... nine pairs.
The Lepidarch’s wings increased until there were nine pairs, which totaled eighteen wings.
Its aura exposed its full power at this moment, and it was violent and terrifying. The suffocating pressure was despair-inducing.
This was the aura of an old three-law monster.
Lu Yin and the others stared in a daze. This was the Lepidarch’s true hidden power.
As the master of a fishing civilization, Lu Yin had already guessed that the Lepidarch might be able to unleash this level of strength, but he had still launched this attack while clinging to a sliver of hope. After all, this level of power was something that could only be encountered by chance. But in the end, it had still appeared.
The Lepidarch had erupted with its full and unrestrained power.
Furball retreated, as did Old Sixth.
They could not defeat the Lepidarch when it was in this state.
Lu Yin stared at the butterfly and attacked without hesitation. It was not as if he had never killed a three-law Immortal before. Although he was currently only his skeleton clone, the Lepidarch was also not a true three-law powerhouse. It had only temporarily pushed itself to that level by employing some unknown method.
No guesses were needed; this elevated state had to be connected to those ten Immortal butterflies.
The Lepidarch Continent always buried any wounded Immortal butterflies. The colorful butterflies were never left injured; they only died.
Lu Yin was suddenly reminded of how there were no records of how any of the Immortal butterflies had broken through to the Immortal realm.
He understood. Those ten colored butterflies were connected to some power that the Lepidarch itself cultivated, or to another one of its cosmic laws. All of the Immortal butterflies were gone. There was no doubt that they had died, and their deaths had granted the Lepidarch its current strength.
This method undoubtedly had limitations. It could not last for very long. As long as they could endure it, it would be enough.
What Lu Yin could think of, Old Sixth and Furball could as well. The problem was that they had to be able to survive the Lepidarch’s current strength.
Bang, bang.
There were two consecutive sounds as the Lepidarch opened its wings. Terrifying power swept out to both sides, instantly blasting Old Sixth and Furball away.
Facing Lu Yin, the butterfly released a thrust of sharp Myriad-Metal Qi.
At this moment, the Lepidarch was more than twice as fast as it had been before. Lu Yin nearly failed to dodge the attack.
The Myriad-Metal Qi swept by him. The sharpness of the attack left marks on his white bones despite it only grazing him. If he were directly struck by that attack, his skeleton clone would definitely be blasted to pieces.
“You are seeking death!” the Lepidarch growled. Above its head, a huge Butterfly Bloom appeared that then expanded to overshadow everything in sight. All spiritual power within the flower’s range started to be devoured.
The sourcebox arrays covering Lu Yin and the others twisted. They were nearly unable to withstand the devouring might of this flower.
“This is a misunderstanding! I was only passing by!” Furball shouted.
Old Sixth also hurriedly shouted, “I was also just passing by! Don’t misunderstand!”
Lu Yin gritted his teeth. Thousand Machinations truly thought highly of his clone. Facing the Lepidarch in this state, even if Thousand Machinations personally came, the Abyssal might not hold the slightest bit of advantage. It was no wonder why the Lepidarch had dared to wander around the edge of the Death Megaverse’s territory for so many years. There was a reason for its confidence. Even an old three-law monster would have to expend tremendous effort to fight the Lepidarch in its current state.
“How long can you maintain this state?” Lu Yin released Stillness from his Three Deaths Art. Black beams spread out: Dead End.
The beams of Dead End merged together as they extended in the same direction, continuously overlapping with each other. The Lepidarch’s body tilted and then moved. Its nine pairs of wings swept out. Like the sharpest blades in the universe, they sliced through the beams of Dead End.
Lu Yin watched as a terrifying slash drew close. A cyan sword appeared before his eyes, held by a massive hand as it slashed down. “Get away from me!”
Clang.
There was a deafening impact, and the cyan sword flew out of the enormous hand. Furball’s arms had been split open by the blow, and blood spilled across the cosmos.
Furball’s true form was not that of a giant, but what Lu Yin’s eyes saw was indeed a green giant. At this moment, those two enormous arms had almost been shattered.
Old Sixth opened their mouth. “Anura’s Skyeater!”
The toad chomped down on the Lepidarch’s wing. The butterfly snorted coldly, and its nine pairs of wings flapped again. Blood streamed from the corners of Old Sixth’s huge mouth. Skyeater was an innate swallowing ability of the Seven-Treasure anuras, and the insides of their mouths actually had the greatest defenses. Even so, Old Sixth’s defenses were insufficient to protect themself from the Lepidarch’s current strength. Old Sixth’s mouth was so fragile that it might well shatter at any moment.
Lu Yin watched and then suddenly charged into Old Sixth’s mouth.
At the moment, the Lepidarch was entirely focused on breaking free of the toad’s Skyeater, and thus was not paying any attention to Lu Yin at all. In its eyes, Lu Yin was the least threatening of its three enemies.
“Old Sixth, hold on!”
“I can’t!” Old Sixth replied in a muffled voice.
Furball rushed over, raised their massive dining table, and slammed it down again. The table pinned the Lepidarch down tightly, restricting its movements as much as possible.
Cracks spread along the table, but Furball simply sat on it while releasing boiling cyan divine energy to press downwards. Their entire body became a Green Firmament. The gear, as well as the giant dining table, actually managed to hold the Lepidarch down for a time.
The tears at the corners of Old Sixth’s mouth opened wider and wider, forcing them to hold their mouth closed with their hands. It hurt! The pain stabbed straight into their heart.
Lu Yin charged through the toad’s mouth, leapt onto the Lepidarch’s back, and then raced for a specific location.
His target was precisely the tall mountain on the Lepidarch’s back. That mountain stood at the exact center of the butterfly’s back, and it was the location that the ten Immortal butterflies had guarded the most carefully. It was also the location of the largest battlefield during the war between the Grand Clarity Civilization and the Lepidarch Continent.
Lu Yin had known for some time that that location might be the Lepidarch’s weakness, but even if he knew that, he had had no way to get close to it.
Fortunately, Old Sixth and Furball had pinned the Lepidarch down with their full strength, and that gave Lu Yin the opportunity to approach this area.
From all across the Lepidarch’s back, countless colored butterflies flew towards the skeleton.
The Lepidarch had already noticed Lu Yin.
He was increasingly convinced that there had to be a problem with this target. Even during such an intense battle, the Lepidarch was still eying that mountain.
But aside from the Lepidarch itself, no one could stop Lu Yin.
A Butterfly Bloom suddenly appeared in the sky above the Lepidarch Continent, and it fell to land on the creature’s back, covering the exact area that Lu Yin was heading for. He entered the area, and beneath Butterfly Bloom, the Grand Clarity sourcebox array that covered his bones abruptly shattered.
Previously, this massive Butterfly Bloom had managed to only shake the sourcebox arrays that protected all three when targeting them at the same time. But now that it was only targeting Lu Yin, his array was naturally unable to endure.
As the sourcebox array collapsed, Butterfly Bloom was branded directly onto his bones. The next moment, Lu Yin dropped to one knee. His physical strength was being drained away, and shockingly, he was barely able to move a single step forward.
This was the power of the Butterfly Bloom when the Lepidarch used it in its boosted state. If not for the Grand Clarity sourcebox arrays, Lu Yin, Old Sixth, and Furball would have never had the power to fight back at all.
Too much of his physical strength was drawn out at once.
Lu Yin gritted his teeth and struggled to stand. He was determined to continue walking to the very center of the butterfly’s back.
He was already within range of the sourcebox array that Grand Clarity had left behind on the butterfly’s back. He was less than 100 meters away from where the tenth butterfly had been buried, and yet those 100 meters might as well be a heavenly chasm.
His strength was still being drained away. If this continued on, he would be unable to even move.
“Hurry! I can’t hold on anymore,” Old Sixth growled.
Lu Yin fell flat. He had no strength left, not even the slightest bit.
As his strength was sapped away, even his consciousness started to blur. As soon as he lost consciousness, he would have no choice but to have his true body act.
But Furball was present, so his true body could not act.
Move. Move. Move for me...
