Chapter 1701: Seeking Fortune (2)
The Dark Void was filled with untold, unimaginable disasters, dangers, and horrors; the Void-Blank Space between different celestial territories such as planets, starfields, stellar regions, and galaxies had always been constantly foretold as chaotic and unpredictable.
Equally, the Dark Void was filled with legendary, unbelievable treasures, fortunes, and wonders; the Void-Blank Space between different celestial territories were often remnants of a forgotten past or erased myth. The Star Void Liquid that was the long-deceased body of a Star Devourer of over 800,000 years and was precious to an extreme.
So when traveling this vast, unknowable expanse of calamity and fortune, not a single cultivator or being would dare lower their guard for a single moment.
Imentet, Nepri, and Pakhet were all newcomers to galactic travel, and as such, their guards were risen to the fullest, either due to protecting their love or sheer vigilant instinct cultivated over millennia of lethal conflict in a chaotic region like the currently named Resolute Dusk Galaxy.
Their coordinated response was inconceivably impeccable and impossibly instantaneous, but in reality, their unique soul-linked cultivation art allowed them to perform instant communication and defied common sense. Pakhet sensed the danger first with her keen instincts, and then Imentet and Nepri reacted immediately after without the slightest hesitation. They took a triangular position with the Hidden Wind and Minor Elysium as its center, protecting their Mystic Aura in a unified execution of a Mystic Ward!
The mesh of grand powers caused the protective ward to transform from black, white, gold, and the tri-blend of grainy colors into a singular milky white haze that seemed to shimmer with a terrifying power and durability and cohesion.
A wave of soul-crushing, heart-palpitating terror washed over the very souls of all those on board both void vessels without exception. Grey Rose turned pale with fright, yet she unhesitatingly stood before Cao Cuifen and erected a layer of Mystic Wards around them with a tinge of quintessential spiritual aura within. She drew upon her most essential Mystic Energies to conjure this barrier, which was second to igniting her Mystic Core! Her cultivation would certainly suffer damage afterward.
Yue Songli and Qing Qiumu were enveloped by a glimmering starry ward that emitted a bloody aura. Dakarai had acted! They were both shielded as Dakarai's expression was ferociously vicious.
Ming Shufeng's entire body was enveloped in wavy, watery silvery light. Her silhouette turned increasingly transparent as if she was brought into a different dimension of space.
The Ascendants, Young Master Shang, and Wei Si looked toward the origin of the danger, their expressions the very picture of solemnity. They either stayed entirely still or erected light defenses in the form of wards, each exuding an aura of Laws. Su Mei reacted faster than Shui Fengbao, the fastest actually, activating Minor Elysium's defensive formations at full force. The whirring sound of all the formations activating sent energy ripples across the ship's deck.
While it took time to describe, the actual reactions were all simultaneous and done within an extremely short time frame that wouldn't amount to a ten-thousandth of a mortal's breath. Meanwhile, throughout that time, Wei Wuyin calmly observed the incoming danger.
A torrential beam of concentrated, chaotic energy was barreling towards them with a gargantuan size enough to engulf an entire tiny-sized planet. It disturbed the three spatial dimensions and, shockingly, the Void itself, forcing all those who tried moving through, entering, or exiting out to be hindered or pushed out.
The beam was chaotic energy at its purest. A beam of disruption. If hit directly by such a disruptive beam, the consequences were difficult to imagine, but the sensation was enough to know that it wouldn't be anything good.
BZZZZT!!! BOOOSH!!!
A strange sound of impact unfolded and flared in the ears, hearts, souls, spirits, and consciousness all at once creating extreme discomfort. The Spirits of Cultivation, True Souls, Souls, and Laws within the body began to echo out faint, irritating buzzing as if responding to the impact, like fingernails grating against a chalkboard.
Wei Wuyin watched with his Alchemic Stars of Transcendent Purity concealing his silvery irises and dark pupils, exuding only the purest aura of an Alchemic Saint, yet his Celestial Eyes were in full effect, and what he saw unfold brought a flash of disbelief across his face.
The beam that was enough to swallow a tiny planet crashed against the tri-coordinated Mystic Ward conjured by three Sages and then halted as if it smacked against an immovable object. However, this wasn't a feat accomplished by the terrifying strength of the Sages, but seemingly a deliberate function of a chaotic energy. It halted. Then, it condensed.
"It's shrinking?!" Nepri was astonished as they expected to slice into the beam, avoiding the brunt due to its immense size in comparison to them, who were less than an ant before this sizable beam of chaotic energy.
"..." Pakhet hurriedly executed a single hand-seal, executing a 9th Way Ascension Art as the milky white ward gained streaks of brilliant gold that exuded an aura of Law.
Imentet was renowned for her defensive abilities, but she didn't have time to bring out her Heavenly Treasure and redirect her energy to activate it, so she could only clap her hands together and, from her trembling body, a surge of enchanting black and white light poured into the Mystic Ward.
The two Sages of the Resolute Dusk Galaxy had reinforced their Mystic Ward with their unique methods.
Nepri was already pushed to his limits. As a Spiritual Cultivator, his defensive powers weren't comparable to either of those two, and he couldn't easily bring forth excess energy given the abruptness of the situation. The most important part was that his energy was chaotically flowing and hard to direct. Pakhet could power through given her aura of Law was exceedingly tyrannical while Imentet didn't even try to execute an art or spell, but directly poured her cultivation into a barrier designed to be durable and resilient.
Yet the beam was battering the ward and sending a buzzing sound that was causing internal chaos within them. It seemed this beam was designed to deal with cultivators at their level, disrupting everything from their innate energies to their Laws! Even the void vessels began to buzz unnaturally, seemingly on the verge of exploding similar to Enlightened Sage Springfield's ship that day!
The beam was shrinking with stupendous speed as it transformed into just a few hundred miles from its planet-sized range, engulfing the entirety of the mystic ward, and the strength of the chaotic energy intensified to the point where Imentet was unable to pour additional energy into her ward! She could barely control her cultivation base!
Grey Rose was already tethering, and she was just on the ship!
"What in the heavens is this thing?! It's destabilizing my cultivation base!" Nepri was already useless, unable to muster much, and could only try to prevent his cultivation base from deviating. If he exploded now, the fallout was sure to end everyone here!
Pakhet didn't immediately draw upon her Major Metal Law. She shifted her eyes while struggling with the intense trembling of her veiny, throbbing arms as she held them out, forcefully maintaining the ward with her entire cultivation base. She saw Wei Wuyin standing there, calmly observing the beam of chaotic energy with furrowed brows. The others, most notably, Wei Xiaotian, were ashen in complexion and seemed to be trying to maintain their cultivation bases and prevent deviation, just like Nepri. If they came into contact with the beam, they might immediately explode from deviation.
Seeing this, she gritted her teeth and turned back, her eyes radiating unyielding resolve. She was going to unleash her Major Authority, drawing upon heaven's powers once again into her body, intending to cut away a path with her claws. Her skin was already glistening with a golden shine, ready to enter that form of golden divinity once again.
"Settle down," Wei Wuyin's voice sounded in her ear like a soft pat on the shoulder, reliable and heavy. Her racing heart inexplicably calmed down. She couldn't explain why even if she was threatened with death.
Wei Wuyin made a move! It wasn't too complicated either. He drew upon Eden's Alchemic Akashic Mystic Force, formerly known as Alchemic Eden Mystic Force, and harnessed the principle of transformation. A singular colored mist representing permutations and transformations enveloped every living existence within the ward, the Minor Elysium, and the Hidden Wind.
As if emulating the essence and auric signature of the chaotic energy, everyone emanated a chaotic aura, including the ships themselves. The Hidden Wind was deactivated with ease by him. While it was a low-rank Mystic-World grade Void Vessel, certainly impressive for simple and leisurely stellar region-tier travel, it simply wasn't too impressive when galactic traversal or dangers that could threaten Original Magistrates or stronger beings were involved.
Luo Ning welcomed Wei Wuyin's power fearlessly. The others couldn't resist. Their cultivation bases were either in chaos or on the verge of deviation by the faint chaotic ripples that leaked through the wards and the strange aura that followed. The only exceptions were Wei Si, Yue Songli, and Su Mei! Not to mention, Wei Wuyin and Pakhet!
When the Alchemic Akashic Mystic Force emulated the chaotic energies, it was as if they all became a sea within a sea—indistinguishable! The shields, barriers, and formations were all deactivated and the ward erected by three Sages dissipated, allowing the chaotic energy to wash over them.
They all witnessed an unforgettable sight. True chaos poured through and around them harmlessly. It was dizzying to observe yet wondrous to experience. An experience that few might ever have a chance to achieve.
An opportunity of superior fortune for cultivation that was only found in a very specific situation. To be baptized by chaos energy!
Wei Wuyin urgently sent a single word to all those on board through the chaos.
"Observe."
The Ascendants knew exactly what to do. Su Mei was already drawing upon her strongest mental energies and focus to observe the rushing force of chaos.
There was a well-known saying that amid great danger was great fortune. This situation was it in the most literal sense!
The entire scene of being overwhelmed and inundated by chaotic energy lasted just a shy longer than a single second. Then, the beam shot behind them into the vast Dark Void until it eventually dissipated a few hundreds of thousands of miles away from them. In this expansive Void-Blank Space, besides random spatial debris, it hit nothing else.
Haggard breathing resounded as Nepit was standing flabbergasted on deck with her hand held against her heart. She just had an unimaginable rush as she brushed with death itself. She felt her cultivation about to deviate. If not for that mystic force enveloping her, the chaotic energy would have pushed her enough to make her go…BOOM!
She gulped a wad of saliva so harshly that everyone on deck heard it.
Pakhet, Imentet, and Nepri were already executing various arts and circulating their Cultivation Methods to stabilize their cultivation bases at the fastest possible speed. As for their observations earlier of the chaos, they could only retain as much as possible and ready themselves for further conflict.
Why exactly?
Without the chaotic energy rushing toward them, they could now sense the hectic fluctuations of upper-stage Mystic Ascendant Realm battles!!!
Wei Wuyin's eyes narrowed as he located the culprit of that beam of chaotic energy. A Void Vessel! It was torus-shaped, like a ring or a celestial belt forged of solid material with intricate mystic runes. Wei Wuyin's first thought was a popular pastry within the memories of those from the Onestar Domain that was referred to as a donut!
In the distance, a violent war was unfolding!
