Death… And Me

Chapter 4013: Gravem Archon

Chapter 4013: Gravem Archon

[The Gravem Archon is the embodiment of stability itself. In the Werdlem Empire’s Bubble that keeps the Primordial Beasts imprisoned, his existence is another pillar, the one that keeps it stable. Such an enormous structure, like the Bubble, wouldn’t stand the weight of its own existence if not for his contribution.]

[Quest Update: Free Tharos, the Gravem Archon.]

[Reward: 21000 Celestial Points.]

The twins would be lying if they said they didn’t expect the system to update the quest. It always did when they heard information about the Primordial Beasts, after all.

Xyrath obviously didn’t hear anything, so he kept speaking of Tharos. ’He is pretty weird. With him, it is all about stability, the balance of things. He can be quite overbearing if things get out of control.’

Kentucky couldn’t help but ask. ’What does he look like?’

’Hum... Somewhat similar to a quadruped behemoth, like a mountain. Well, pretty much all Primordial Beasts are enormous, so there is nothing new there. His size doesn’t matter much, though. What truly distinguishes him is his ability to maintain stability in various situations... or to break them apart. You would need to interact with him to understand well what it means,’ Xyrath explained.

-So Tharos is also here, uh...- Laiana obviously knew the beast. -Unless Xyrath already knows where he is, it will be pretty hard to locate this guy. He always hated to interact with the other Primordial Beasts.-

’It is not about finding him,’ Rean corrected Laiana. ’If we aren’t wrong, he is also being kept imprisoned somewhere. The problem is to find where he is being kept instead.’

Xyrath shook his head. ’I have no idea. Even if I did, that would be a piece of information from countless years ago. There is very little chance I would be right about it nowadays.’

Roan pondered Kentucky’s comments earlier. He mentioned that the Destiny Attraction ability of the system would likely bring them to Tharos and the other Primordial Beasts at some point. He definitely didn’t want to have anything to do with it, but he couldn’t discard that possibility. ’Alright, you don’t know where he is, but do you know any method we could use to find him?’

Xyrath nodded. ’I do... but I will need to recover my body first. His abilities affect the stability of everything, even time and gravity. He is pretty much the only one I can detect in the entire extension of the Bubble, as the time disturbances caused by him are very distinct. Don’t ask me to do the same about the others. Only Tharos has this special trait.’

That settled things. For now, the twins’ group would not care much about the primordial beasts. But if the need arises, they would have information about another two of them. One was the Archive Devourer, Soltrex. And the other was the Gravem Archon, Tharos. ’Then let us know when things here are over.’

’Are you going to help him?’ Xyrath asked, somewhat hopeful.

Roan didn’t give a definitive answer. ’We will see. Regardless of what the Empire’s Bubble is really for, perhaps freeing you bunch is truly our only way out.’

’Say,’ Foliana was confused. ’Even if we release them from their imprisonment, it is a fact that they are all inside the Bubble. We now know that the Bubble exists because the Primordial Beasts are here. Will it make any difference to set them free? After all, they can’t escape the Bubble, and that means you guys can’t leave the Bubble either. In fact, using the words ’setting them free’ is quite wrong since they would still be trapped in the Bubble. They just would be able to move around inside.’

-We don’t know,- Laiana said. -However, we were imprisoned for a reason, weren’t we? There has to be something we can do if we are allowed to move freely in the Werdlem Empire’s Bubble.-

Roan narrowed his eyes. Of course, there were. For example, they could invade the Werdlem Empire’s Main Universe and demand an answer, a way to get themselves free. There has to be some information regarding it in that Universe, right? There were many other options, too. However, the one Roan thought to be the most reliable was right in front of them.

With his expression still cold, Roan asked it. ’What if we simply kill one of you guys. You are all pillars that support the Werdlem Empire’s Bubble, even if it is made to keep you inside. If one of you is out of the picture, won’t it collapse?’

’If only it were that easy...’ Everyone could see Xyrath growing somewhat melancholy. ’Do you think others haven’t tried to kill us before? First of all, if killing us was possible, why create the Werdlem Empire’s Bubble in the first place? Just get rid of us, period.’

-We can’t be killed...- Laiana continued from there. -No, to be more specific, we can’t be eliminated in the very sense of the word. The laws of existence will ensure we remain alive. As you probably guessed, Primordial Beasts are ridiculously old... Well, I know some of us who tried to end their lives, but they all failed.-

The ability to live for such a long time might be a blessing, but also a curse. That was especially the case for the Primordial Beasts, who had been here from the beginning.

’I tried to help Nerithra once...’ Xyrath reminisced about the past. ’As you probably guessed already, she is also a Primordial Beast. Anyway, she had reached her limit. She was in a state where she was forcing herself to stay unconscious for eons at a time, just to wake up and wish for nothing but the end. Let me tell you, I truly did everything in my power, and I had help from other Primordial Beasts. Unfortunately, we failed.’

-Stop it, Xyrath. There was no helping that. Dwelling on the results of your actions back then won’t change anything.- Laiana knew the pain Xyrath felt because of that day.

Roan wasn’t certain if he could trust their words. Were the Primordial Beasts really unkillable? But then again, it made sense to imprison them if killing wasn’t possible.

At that moment, Tanxan got another question. ’Let’s suppose that killing you, Primordial Beasts, is truly impossible. That indeed explains your imprisonment. So, the question is: why were you imprisoned in the first place? What have you done that led to this Bubble being created just to keep you inside?’

Indeed, if the Empire’s Bubble was created just to keep the Primordial Beasts there, then everything changes. Before, they thought it existed to protect against the outside world, so there was no reason to question the Bubble’s existence. Now, however...
