Death… And Me

Chapter 4014: Default and Now

Chapter 4014: Default and Now

Before Laiana or Xyrath answered Tanxan’s question, Roan thought of something. ’There are ninety-nine Primordial Beasts, but only twelve of you were imprisoned inside the Bubble. Was it a random action, or are the twelve of you special in some way?’

Xyrath looked surprised by Roan’s question. ’How did you reach that conclusion?’

Roan quickly explained. ’Xyrath rules time, Soltrex rules knowledge, Tharos rules stability. I’m just not sure what exactly Laiana rules, but something tells me it is also another essential pillar of the world. Could all ninety-nine Primordial Beasts have such distinct abilities? You somehow feel a lot more important, and that’s why the Werdlem Empire took you out of the game.’

’I see...’ Xyrath understood Roan’s thoughts. ’The answer to your question will also answer Tanxan’s inquiry. First, we don’t rule, we ruled...’

Laiana took it from there. -Just so that you know, I ruled variability.-

Rean could see why. ’You cultivate bloodline, don’t you? If we take that into context, you are the reason the various races exist, the evolution that gives birth to them, what we would call genetic variability. Of course, by genetics, I’m not only talking about races of flesh and blood races. Your influence goes way beyond that. You were the variability that gave birth to any kind of race, energy, spirits, essence, etc.’

-That is an excellent way of putting it. Of course, I was the origin of it all, but I don’t really rule them anymore. All the races already have their paths set with new evolutions and extinctions happening everywhere; they appear and disappear on their own. I have no need to intercede, nor can or should I do it.-

’Same goes for me,’ Xyrath added. ’Time already works perfectly well. Intervention from someone like me is unnecessary. In fact, trying to intervene at this point would be ridiculous. There are just way too many Universes in the great void for me to try to touch the time laws that rule them all.’

The twins’ group understood. They were the origin of it all, but they already fulfilled their duties.

Still, that didn’t mean they couldn’t do anything. -Anyway, our direct connection with these pillars of the world was related to the reason for our imprisonment. Hehe... now that I think about it, how meaningless it was for us to be imprisoned. The Great Void has already grown beyond anything we could recognize. Trying to mess with the pillars as we are now is anything but feasible. At most, we could cause some ripples that would eventually fix themselves, but that’s about it.-

’If that’s the case...’ Rean thought a little bit. ’You can’t die. However, even if you could, it would make no difference anymore. Is that it?’

’Yes,’ Xyrath confirmed Rean’s words. ’Let me just make one thing clear. We did not create those pillars of the world. It’s the opposite. The birth of the pillars was what gave birth to us. You could say that we are the children of the Great Void. We rule... ruled over them at the start, but no more. No Primordial Beast has the power to affect the pillars anymore. What is done is done. I can guarantee you that.’

Roan could see two main possibilities there. ’And yet, you were imprisoned. There are many reasons I can think of for that, but I can only see two that make sense.’

’One: the Werdlem Empire didn’t believe you couldn’t intervene anymore, and to make sure you wouldn’t, they imprisoned you in this Bubble. This Bubble uses your own innate abilities to keep you inside, and since you can’t die, you can’t escape.’

’Or two: the Werdlem Empire knows that you can’t alter those pillars anymore. However, as you said, you can at least cause some ripples. If you think about it, just some ripples in the context of the entire Great Void is already a ridiculously powerful ability. You might have been the only thing that could put an end to th Werdlem Empire’s rule if you decided to cause those ripples around the empire itself.’

Xyrath and Laiana went silent again. In fact, the twins’ group could see a bitter smile on Xyrath’s small snake face.

Roan’s mouth twitched in response, finally understanding. ’Fuck! You weren’t imprisoned because you could become a risk! Instead, you were already a risk! You were imprisoned because you DID TRY to use those ripples against the Werdlem Empire!’

Neither Liana nor Xyrath answered, but they didn’t need to. Even if they tried to say something else, the twins’ group wouldn’t believe it one bit!

-Since you already got this far, I won’t try to hide it. That was precisely the case.- Laiana could only go with the flow. -In fact, it wasn’t just the twelve who came. Almost all ninety-nine joined together for this. That’s why I didn’t know who the twelve imprisoned Primordial Beasts were. Because there were more of them that day.-

’Why?’ Everyone asked at the same time. Why did they try to cause trouble for the Empire?

-That, I can’t say,- Laiana didn’t answer, though.

’Same here,’ and Xyrath confirmed.

’Oh, come on!’ Kentucky got angry. ’You got this far, and now you won’t tell us why? What difference would that make? You were already imprisoned, for fuck’s sake!’

’You got the wrong idea,’ Xyrath explained. ’It’s not that we don’t want to tell you, but that we don’t know why.’

That sounded even more absurd. Those twelve Primordial Beasts gathered together against the Werdlem Empire, and they didn’t know why? Who would believe that?

’Are you even trying to lie?’ Rean asked while shaking his head.

’It is the truth,’ Xyrath insisted. ’We truly don’t know why. We were here under orders.’

’Wait! What?!’ That was another shock! ’Under orders? Are you saying there is someone capable of ordering the Primordial Beasts around? For real?!’

Celis remembered their conversation earlier. ’When Roan asked if you knew Soul Gem, you both said you didn’t, but still Xyrath said he could make an educated guess about who did. However, Laiana stopped him from continuing to speak. Is this someone perhaps the same one who ordered you around?’

Xyrath shook his head. ’What I can say is that you got the wrong idea. There is no such thing as someone capable of ordering us. However, we were ordered, and if you wish to find more about it, you will have to free the Primordial Beasts.’

He continued. ’Roan mentioned that the twelve Primordial Beasts sealed in the Bubble are special. Considering the four we already know are me, Laiana, Tharos, and Soltrex, I’m pretty sure a certain someone is also here. When you find him, you will get your answer. Laiana and I aren’t allowed to answer it before he does.’

’And who is this someone?’ Rean asked.

’Default,’ Xyrath answered.

’Default? Default of what?’

’It is what he is called. ’Default’ is his name, well, kinda...’ Xyrath explained. ’And he is a Now.’

’Default is a Now?’ Rean began to feel a headache.

-Well, to be more precise, that is not a name, but something we use to refer to him,- Laiana added on the side.

’He is called... Default? And he is a... Now?’ If they were confused before, they are even more so currently.

’Anyway,’ Xyrath didn’t try to describe. ’Explaining him would be... interesting... You will have to find the guy, and then you will understand. That’s all we can tell you at the moment.’
