Chapter 4119: The Core
Soltrex thought for a moment. Then, his energy gathered, creating some images for the twins' group to see. It was basically a picture of the pyramid, which began to transform into several different forms. "This construction and the realm it controls use me as its source of energy. It is pretty similar to the Werdlem Empire's Bubble, but it works only for me."
"Back then, I was imprisoned in this thing, but it took some time for this construct's power to seal my powers entirely. So I used that chance to run away, and eventually fell into this Universe."
"It prevents me from entering any Pocket Dimensional Realms, including mine. At the same time, it was made so that the more Starlight Energy I use while trying to break out, the sturdier it becomes. Not only that, but its structure got tougher and tougher the longer I spent inside."
"It wasn't all bad news, though. I have knowledge of its inner workings. As time passed, I was able to use the connections of the various functions of this place to take control over a few minor features. That's how I was able to create the Mist Library again, just something to help me pass the time... and anotehr reason you will see later."
"At the moment, I'm collecting my own Starlight Energy past the barriers sealing me inside this place. It will take time, but if my plan works, I will eventually have enough Starlight Energy accumulated in the various nodes to launch an attack into the core of the structure. It is a slow process, as the nodes weren't made for that task. I'm having to work on them so they can manage to hold more and more Starlight Energy."
Roan narrowed his eyes. "Since you got some control over it, and even managed to open this realm for outsiders, why haven't you asked them to destroy the core for you?"
"Who said I haven't thought about that?" Soltrex asked in response. "It's just that they were all too weak! Everyone I've seen so far wouldn't leave as much as a scratch on the core of this structure. So, I didn't risk it out. After all, what if those I asked to try to break the core end up denouncing me to the Werdlem Empire? Since I knew they couldn't break it, I've never asked any of them to do it for me."
Rean asked something else. "Basically, the Mist Library kept opening and closing every time for the sake of finding someone strong enough. That's also why you changed the structure's shape and the environment, so there would be no clues that could lead the Empire to find you here. For all intents and purposes, this is the inheritance of some strong expert of the past and so on. Am I correct?"
Soltrex confirmed. "Exactly. That's the other reason I mentioned. Also, every opening happened after several tens of thousands of years, sometimes hundreds of thousands. The reason was simple. I couldn't have people coming in and out nonstop. That would increase the risk of someone attracting the Werdlem Empire in the end. I made the tokens and the challenges difficult to screen out the useless ones."
"I got especially nervous when those related to the Empire appeared, but since this is a Rank F Universe and this is a remote region, even those with some connection to the Empire couldn't tell that this place was actually a prison for me."
Roan went straight to the point. "Then let's not waste time. Where is this core? We can destroy it, right?"
Soltrex's Starlight Energy then created a line of white light, leading out of the chamber where he was imprisoned. "Just follow the white thread. I can talk to you through it. I doubt you can destroy the core, but give it a try anyway."
Roan nodded, and everyone flew to the exit. That white thread brought the twins' group deep underground, eventually reaching a huge room. At the very center, they could see a Sphere and what looked like thousands of veins coming from the walls and connecting to it.
"That's some huge amount of Starlight Energy..." Rean couldn't help but comment.
"Yeah, too bad it is not compatible with us," Celis added from within the Dimensional Realm.
That Starlight Energy didn't come from the environment. Instead, it came from Soltrex. It had all been converted for his own use, so the twins' group would never be able to use it for cultivation. "Back then, we considered the possibility of coming back here to steal the source of Starlight Energy of this place. Good thing we didn't. It would have been a huge waste of time."
Roan didn't care about any of it. His Crystal Void Intent took the form of his Scythe as Sparks of Dark Red Lightning could be seen coming from it. "Soltrex, I can really destroy it, right?" Roan asked one last time.
Soltrex's voice echoed from the white thread. "If you can do it, sure." He didn't seem very confident that Roan could pull it off.
Roan shot forward, holding nothing back. Celestial Sky Energy, Seventh Stage Intent, Enhancement, Elements, Celestial Laws, you name it.
'Red Death, Death Scythe!'
*CLANG!*
The Scythe crashed on the Sphere, and a powerful burst of energy spread everywhere. Poor Herbert, who was only tagging along, was almost hit by one of the Dark Red Lightning Arcs. He couldn't help but run out of that room, as he could tell with one glance that the power of that arc was enough to kill him ten times over! And that was just the aftermath!
Yet, to everyone's surprise, Roan's Scythe only managed to penetrate a few centimeters into the Sphere before Roan's power ran out. Then, his Scythe disappeared, and Roan stepped back as he watched a tiny ship from the Sphere falling to the ground. "This thing is made of one hell of a tough material."
He might only be able to use less than a tenth of his power due to the suppression of his cultivation. Still, that attack definitely carried the power of an Initial Stage Celestial at the very least, close to a Middle Stage one.
Soltrex, however, looked at the tiny ship Roan created on the Sphere, and grew excited. "You really did it! You truly managed to damage it!"
Roan looked at the white thread. "Are you saying that's enough?"
"You just need to keep attacking until you break it entirely, no?" Soltrex answered back.
"Not so easy," Rean pointed forward.
Soltrex and the others looked again, and the tiny crack Roan created had disappeared. The sphere healed itself.
"What?!" Soltrex was shocked. "This shit can also heal itself?!"
Kentucky was surprised, too. "This has to be some kind of item from the Celestial Plane, right? Even Roan's Dark Element and Laws were not able to stop it from recovering almost instantly."
Rean agreed with him. "Well, it was able to imprison Soltrex. It is very likely so."
"Soltrex," Roan cut in. "Is this thing's sturdiness due to your Starlight Energy? What if you stop feeding it?"
Soltrex denied that possibility. "I can't stop. My power is taken away from me against my will. But I recover automatically, too, so it is an endless cycle. If I could, I would have stopped a long time ago."
[What if we cut down all those white veins?] Sister Orb was the one to ask this time. [We could stop the influx of Starlight Energy, right?]
"The veins are just as sturdy as the Sphere itself," Soltrex told her. "And don't even think about trying to destroy the structure around it. Well, you can try, but it won't work."
Roan didn't think about it. This structure was built as a whole, so any damage Roan caused was likely to be patched by its inner workings.
Rean didn't seem that concerned, getting closer to it and smiling. "Well, it is strong due to energy, isn't it? Celis, it is up to you."
*Zush!*
Celis instantly appeared outside. "And here I was wondering how long you would take to call me."
