Chapter 4285: Poke!
"You are just trying to humiliate me, aren’t you?" Araujo couldn’t help but ask.
Rean had a puzzled expression on his face. "What are you talking about? If you can’t see the treasure in front of you, that just shows how far you are from becoming a real Array Master. Remember, you aren’t paying for anything. Anyway, let’s start, and you will see."
Araujo narrowed his eyes, but it was true that he wasn’t really losing anything here. As cheap as those materials were, he didn’t pay for them. He would only lose time, so he decided to bear with it for now. "Alright... what do you want me to do?"
"Hum... let’s see..." Rean looked at the materials. They were cheap and bad, but there were many types of alloys, crystals, and other rune materials. There were truly a lot of things that could be done with them. "Oh! Why not start with the runes you were trying to make before? Here, take it."
Rean then threw a bunch of materials, especially those used for Lightning Element conduction. It’s just that compared to the materials Araujo was using earlier, these were truly terrible.
"How do you expect me to make a Lightning Element Flow Rune with this shit?" Araujo asked.
"Treasure! Stop complaining and just start already," Rean said. "All the materials you need are there. You can definitely make the same rune with these materials."
Araujo was already regretting his decision, but once again, he had nothing to lose other than time. "Fine. Let’s see..."
Finally, he took out some equipment that he intended to use to assemble the materials into the rune. With those materials, he was certain the rune would never be able to resist the Array’s power, but he decided to try anyway.
*Pah!*
Yet, before he could even start, Rean slapped Araujo’s hand, causing the equipment, resembling tweezers with tiny circuitry array runes and inscriptions on it, to fall to the ground.
Araujo was almost exploding now. Too bad Rean gave him no chance to speak. "What the hell are you doing? Why do you need any equipment for a rune like this? You are an Aura God; you can control your energy outside your body. Such a low-level rune has no need for anything else other than that."
Araujo found that ridiculous. "Low-level rune? Do you have any idea how much I struggled with this rune? And you want me to use these materials to make one and won’t even let me use my equipment?"
"Stop complaining!" Rean didn’t give in. "If you want to become a Level Two Array Master, you will do as I say. Now, focus! Control your energy and start assembling the rune."
The more he heard, the more Araujo felt like he was being played with. Still, once again, he calmed down and tried to do as Rean said. His Energy began to flow out of his hand, catching the materials until...
*Tud!*
*Ouch!*
Araujo felt something poke his right arm with considerable force, and it even got quite red where he was hit. It was Rean who reinforced his finger with his Godly Energy and jabbed Araujo’s arm just now. Araujo immediately lost control of his energy, and the materials fell. "You..."
"Shut up!" Rean looked at him with cold eyes. "What piece of shit control of energy was that? Your seventh meridian was totally out of sync with your right hand. How do you expect to make any runes with that kind of shit? Try again!"
Araujo was taken aback. It was out of synch? He didn’t notice it. Nonetheless, he calmed down once again and gave it another try.
*Tud!*
*Argh!*
This time, he was jabbed on his neck!
"Wrong! Crafting runes isn’t just about putting the pieces together. When you circulated your energy just now, the neck meridian was as tense as a rock! Energy barely moved through there at all. How can you focus on the rune if you can’t even focus on the proper use of your meridians?"
Araujo felt like crying! "So what? I’m not using my neck to make this fucking rune!"
"Shut up! Try again!" Rean didn’t care, ordering once more.
"Enough!" Araujo gave up. "There is no way this will work. How can the rune possibly be made with these things? You might be an ascender, but I won’t sit here and just let you humiliate me for no reason!"
"Do you doubt I can make this rune with these materials?" Rean asked.
"I’m certain it is not possible," Araujo assured.
"Hmph! Naive!" Rean stepped forward and took exactly the same materials. "I’m in an even worse condition than you. I can’t bring my energy out of my body because I’m not an Aura God. If I make a Level One Lightning Flow Rune with these materials, without using a single piece of equipment, will you shut up and follow my orders?"
"Ha!" Araujo took it as the greatest joke he had ever heard. "Alright, let’s see it. But if you fail, you will work for me for a month!"
Rean didn’t say anything else. Instead, he just showed what a real Array Master could do. Using the materials themselves as equipment, Rean began to build the rune. It’s just that this time, it took him over ten minutes to finish. It couldn’t be helped. Araujo was right about one thing. Those were indeed pretty bad materials compared to the ones he was using. And since Rean used no real equipment, he could only work slowly.
Araujo’s confidence began to dwindle the more Rean worked. He found it ridiculous that those materials could really be assembled together, and the methods seemed even more novel. It wasn’t like anything he had seen in the Guild network or from other Array Masters.
Finally, the rune was crafted, and Rean threw it to Araujo. "Test it. This rune should be even better than the one I fixed for you since this one was made properly."
Araujo swallowed hard again. Deep down, he knew it. This rune was absolutely on another class compared to his own. Nonetheless, he just had to be certain. He took the array he was working on earlier and swapped the rune. Finally, he turned it on.
To the surprise of absolutely nobody, the rune worked, and worked even better than the one from before. "How can that be? There are only trash materials in this thing..."
*Pah!*
*Ouch!*
Rean slapped the back of Araujo’s head. "I told you, it is a treasure pile! Don’t forget that! Now, shut up and do as I say. No more complaining. For fuck’s sake! I’m being all nice and candid, trying to help the elderly gain a new lease on life, and I just happen to find an old geezer who can’t listen. Now, go back to work."
Araujo was close to the boiling point. Nice and Candid? When did that happen? Helping the elderly? Rean was a fucking ascender! Araujo was certain Rean was countless times older than him! Still... he lost the bet. There was no going back anymore. "Fine! Let’s see if you can really make things work for me."
