Chapter 4620: Time to Consider
Roan had expected Tobao to ask. The twins’ group had done a great deal for the Besgol Region, but Besgol had also done plenty for them in return. Tobao and Arcis had always been reliable allies, helping the twins’ group in numerous ways and making their time in the Region considerably easier.
Because of that, Roan had no intention of simply disappearing one day without telling them anything. At the very least, he would inform them of their plans beforehand. Besides, he had another idea in mind, one that could potentially benefit both sides.
"From the Besgol Region, if you travel at Rean’s airplane speed, you’ll eventually reach a special location after approximately three and a half years of continuous flight," Roan began.
The location he was referring to was the Sprouting Portal. The restrictions imposed on the twins’ group prevented them from revealing anything about the portals or the true powers governing the Grasslands. However, Roan wasn’t explicitly stating what they would find there. He was merely pointing out that a particular location existed, leaving Tobao to draw his own conclusions.
"A special location?" Tobao narrowed his eyes.
So far, the twins’ group had traveled farther into the Godly Creatures’ Territories than any other group in Besgol’s recorded history. Well, at least among those who managed to come back. They had flown straight ahead for several months during their Elite Exploration Mission, venturing into areas that no previous exploration team had dared to reach. It was during that exceptionally long journey that they had discovered the teleport array leading to Woster, for example.
Now, however, Roan was talking about a destination that would require three and a half years of nonstop travel, even with Rean’s airplane, which had undergone further improvements since their previous expedition. Just how far away could this place be? Tobao’s curiosity was practically impossible to conceal. "Tell me more."
Roan shook his head. "Given the circumstances, we can’t tell you anything beyond that. Just remember that this is a place you’ll eventually want to visit yourself, especially when you reach the Region God Realm."
Tobao was taken aback by that statement. Although Besgol had no Region Gods of its own at the moment, it possessed historical records of the few cultivators who had reached that level over the years.
Furthermore, Besgol maintained contact with other Regions, allowing its experts to gather information about their experiences as well. Thanks to those sources, Tobao knew that Region Gods almost always departed from their Home Regions shortly after breaking through.
"Is this special location where Region Gods go when they leave their Home Regions?" Tobao asked directly.
"Yes," Roan confirmed. "I can’t tell you why, what it is, or how we obtained this information. However, I can tell you that we learned about it during the incident when all cultivators across the various Regions suddenly fell asleep. The two matters are related."
Tobao’s curiosity soared. Even now, no one knew why cultivators across so many Regions had suddenly fallen asleep during that mysterious incident. Or at least, that was what he had believed until this conversation. The twins’ group clearly knew something about it, and they had just admitted that the incident was connected to the place where Region Gods eventually departed for.
"Amitabha... These friends are making this monk’s life rather troublesome. If you tell me something like that, how can I possibly avoid insisting that you explain the matter further?"
Rean patted Tobao’s shoulder reassuringly. "Trust us, Senior. We really would like to tell you more, but the problem is that we’d simply drop dead if we even attempted to reveal those details."
Rean wasn’t exaggerating. Duze had been very explicit about the consequences when he explained the restrictions to them. (Chapter 4410)
Naturally, Tobao had no way to verify whether Rean was telling the truth. However, he was experienced enough to recognize that the twins weren’t the type to make such claims without a reason, especially when the consequences involved their own lives. Therefore, he didn’t press them any further on that particular point.
"Is this a place worth risking your life to visit?" Tobao asked instead.
"Probably," Rean replied with a shrug. "Assuming we can make it there, of course. There’s a good chance we will die long before reaching it."
That was the part Tobao couldn’t understand. If the journey was so dangerous that even the twins admitted they might not survive it, why were they willing to undertake it in the first place?
"Why would you risk such an incredibly dangerous journey, then? Three and a half years of travel at Rean’s airplane speed is no small matter. The farther you venture into the Godly Creatures’ Territories, the more you will stand out in the Godly Creatures’ senses. Eventually, you will reach a point where escaping them becomes impossible."
Roan offered no explanation. "We have our ways."
He wasn’t going to reveal their secrets just to satisfy Tobao’s curiosity. Instead, he returned to the main point of the conversation.
"We’ll be leaving soon to attempt the journey. That location offers us a chance to find a much better cultivation environment, which we desperately need. As we’ve already discovered, Godly Horror Crystals seem to be useful only while we’re in the Zone God Realm. Our Godly Energy pools are simply too large."
Roan continued, explaining the difference between their situation and that of ordinary cultivators. "You can still cultivate using Godly Predator Crystals even after reaching the Law God Realm. Your progress will be slow at that level with those crystals, but with enough time, effort, and luck, you might eventually break through into the Region God Realm without needing many Godly Horror Crystals. For us, however, we’re almost certain that Godly Predator Crystals will become completely useless the moment we reach the Law God Realm."
He paused briefly to let that sink in before continuing. "From that point onward, only Godly Horror Crystals would be capable of increasing our cultivation. Can you imagine what that would mean for us? We’d have to venture into the Godly Creatures’ Territories and hunt solely Godly Horrors just to make progress."
"And they’re incredibly rare. During our last Elite Exploration Mission, which lasted more than two months, we found seven of them. That was already an exceptional result because the circumstances favored the gathering of Godly Creatures. Under normal conditions, we shouldn’t have expected to find more than three or four."
Rean joined the explanation. "And that’s only the beginning of the problem. To advance from the Middle Stage to the Late Stage of the Zone God Realm, we’ll have to use our two Initial, six Middle, and three Late Godly Horror Crystals. Even with all eleven of those crystals, Celis told us we might still fall short of reaching the Late Stage, although we’d get close. Now try to imagine how many more we’ll need once we reach the Law God Realm."
Tobao took a deep breath, finding it difficult to process the scale of their resource requirements. "Amitabha... This monk knew your cultivation needs were complicated, but this is ridiculous!"
"In any case," Roan continued, "the Besgol Region is no longer suitable for us. We’ve learned that we have a better chance of finding the cultivation conditions we need at the location I mentioned, so that’s where we’re going. We’ll first use up the Godly Horror Crystals we currently possess. Whether we reach the Late Stage of the Zone God Realm or merely get close, we’ll leave as soon as they’re gone. Otherwise, we’ll be stuck here indefinitely, unable to make meaningful progress."
With that, Roan extended his hand toward Tobao. "And this is where I want to offer you an opportunity."
Tobao stared at him in surprise. "An opportunity? An opportunity for what?"
Roan nodded. "An opportunity to come with us. You and Arcis have helped us for a long time, so consider this a chance to repay you for everything you’ve done."
"Friend Roan must be losing his mind," Tobao replied, shaking his head. "You just explained that this journey is practically guaranteed to end in suicide."
Roan glanced at Rean, who immediately understood what his brother was doing. Now the reason behind Roan’s unusually detailed explanation became clear. He wasn’t merely informing Tobao of their plans. He was offering him and Arcis an opportunity that could change their cultivation journeys forever.
Of course, having a Law God like Tobao or Arcis accompany them would also improve their chances of surviving the trip to the Sprouting Portal. Even if the twins had their own methods of dealing with danger, an experienced Law God could make a considerable difference when facing powerful Godly Creatures.
"Senior," Rean said, addressing Tobao directly, "we can’t explain exactly how, but there is a way for us to reach that location. It’s not guaranteed, but our chances are very high. And this opportunity isn’t limited to you. Senior Arcis is welcome to come as well. Would you be interested?"
Tobao had far too many questions to make a decision immediately. "You’re essentially asking us to abandon Besgol."
"Abandon?" Rean and Roan asked almost simultaneously, looking at him as though he had misunderstood their intentions.
"Think about it, Senior," Rean continued. "When we first arrived, Besgol had only two Law Gods: you and Arcis. Now, it has six, including Zandal, who came from Woster. Yes, Zandal will eventually leave as well, probably within a few hundred years, but even after that, Besgol should still have three Law Gods. Don’t you think it’s time for the next generation of experts to take responsibility for the Region?"
"This..." Tobao struggled to find a counterargument. The twins weren’t wrong. Besgol’s situation had improved considerably since their arrival, and the Region was now in a much stronger position than it had been when they first met.
Rean struck the iron while it was hot. "Besides, many of Besgol’s current problems are connected to us: Roan, Celis, Kentucky, Luxa, Lunelle, and me. If we leave, things will actually become easier for Besgol in several ways. At the very least, Natak won’t have a reason to come after the Region again because of us."
Tobao fell silent, weighing the implications. There were simply too many unknowns. However, when had the path toward the Region God Realm ever been free of risks? Reaching that level was already an extraordinary achievement, and an opportunity to improve one’s chances of doing so was something very few cultivators would ever receive.
Meanwhile, Besgol itself was no longer in the precarious position it had once been. It possessed a stronger foundation, more Law Gods, and the organizational structures necessary to maintain its stability.
If Tobao and Arcis eventually departed, the other Law Gods would have to take on greater responsibilities, but they would also inherit the resources and responsibilities previously associated with the two senior experts. The transition might not be entirely smooth, yet it was hardly an impossible one.
In fact, the remaining Law Gods might even welcome the opportunity to inherit Tobao and Arcis’s resources when the time came. Everyone involved stood to gain something.
"I... need to discuss this with Arcis before we can make a decision," Tobao finally said. He wasn’t about to commit himself to such a dangerous undertaking without first consulting his longtime friend.
Roan simply turned his attention back toward the scenery outside as Rean’s airplane continued its journey toward Besgol. "That’s fine. We still have to use the remaining Godly Horror Crystals, which should take at least another four or five years. You have plenty of time to consider your options."
