Chapter 4628: After Us
Compared to the readings of the Peak Godly Horror they had just fought, this creature’s concentration of Godly Pressure was at least thrice as intense. Seeing the readings, Tobao couldn’t help but voice his concerns. "We should retreat. A Godly Apex is nothing to joke about."
Roan shook his head. "The Sanctuary still has over ninety seconds remaining before it enters its twenty-four-hour cooldown. This creature will arrive in twenty seconds at most. It’s a good opportunity to see what kind of effect the Sanctuary will have on a Godly Apex."
Arcis remained skeptical. "But what if we can’t escape?"
"That’s not really a problem," Rean replied with a smile. "All of you can enter our Great Void. Only Roan and I will stay behind to check whether the Sanctuary affects the Godly Apex. We’ll follow you inside right afterward if it comes after us."
Tobao and the others exchanged glances before nodding. Indeed, with the Great Void available as an escape route, the situation shouldn’t be too dangerous, provided the twins could still enter it when the time came.
With that decided, everyone entered the Great Void, leaving only Rean and Roan behind. The twins descended to the ground, stopping the airplane just a hundred and eighty meters from the corpse of the Peak Godly Horror they had killed moments earlier. There was little doubt that the approaching Godly Apex would focus on the corpse first, giving them a chance to observe its behavior without having to approach it directly. Meanwhile, Rean and Roan’s cultivator readings had already disappeared, as both were using their Godly Pressure Disguise of the airplane.
From inside the Great Void, Sister Orb projected the outside world so that everyone could see what the twins were seeing. Tobao, Arcis, and the others watched the display intently, waiting for the Apex to arrive. They didn’t have to wait long.
Surprisingly, the enormous Godly Creature they had expected never appeared. Instead, a tiny figure descended toward the corpse, no bigger than Luxa or Lunelle. Naturally, Rean and Roan didn’t lower their guard just because of its size. The concentration of Godly Pressure on the radar had already made it clear that this was no ordinary creature.
As it drew closer, the twins finally got a good look at their opponent.
"Is that... a moth?" Rean couldn’t help but ask.
"Well, it is a pretty big one," Roan added.
Indeed, compared to ordinary moths, one the size of Luxa or Lunelle was enormous. It was just that, considering the overwhelming concentration of Godly Pressure it emanated, its actual size was ridiculously small compared to what they had expected.
The Godly Apex had a slender, delicate body covered in dark blue-black fuzz. Its translucent wings shimmered with countless luminous specks resembling stars. Despite its fragile appearance, an overwhelming concentration of Godly Pressure radiated from its small body, creating a chilling contrast between its seemingly harmless form and the terrifying power it possessed.
Rean and Roan could sense the Godly Pressure it emanated through their Godly Senses. Even now, Godly Creatures seemed unable to detect cultivators’ Godly Senses, and this Godly Apex was no exception.
The moth had already noticed Rean and Roan’s presence, but it didn’t perceive them as cultivators. Due to their disguises, it regarded them as two weak Godly Beasts, barely worth its attention. The creatures it was actually searching for were the cultivators whose presence it had sensed earlier.
Eventually, the moth approached the corpse. Then...
*Zup!*
The moment it entered the Yin Yang Sanctuary’s range, the Godly Pressure it emanated disappeared without a trace. Even the Godly Pressure circulating inside its own body vanished, leaving nothing behind. At the same time, Rean and Roan could clearly sense through their Godly Senses that the moth’s overall power had dropped considerably.
Sure enough, the Sanctuary still worked just fine, even against a Godly Apex!
The moth, however, remained within the Sanctuary’s range for only a split second. It immediately charged out, retreating to a distance where its power returned to normal. Once there, it turned its attention back toward the corpse of the Peak Godly Horror, seemingly confused by what had just happened.
Godly Apexes also didn’t have intelligence, so the moth couldn’t reason out why its power had suddenly dropped. It simply reacted to the unpleasant sensation by instinctively avoiding whatever had caused it.
Still, that didn’t mean it was incapable of learning.
The moth began circling the area, approaching the corpse from different directions. Every time it entered the Sanctuary’s range, it felt its power diminish and immediately rushed back out. After several attempts, it began to associate the effect with the two Godly Beasts standing roughly two hundred meters away.
It couldn’t understand what was happening, but it had developed an instinctive suspicion toward the pair.
Then, just as the twins continued observing its behavior...
[Yin Yang Sanctuary Deactivated!]
[Cooldown: 24:00]
The Sanctuary finally reached its two-minute operating limit and disappeared. Immediately, Godly Pressure washed over the area like a rising tide, restoring the energy that had been suppressed moments earlier.
The moth sensed the change. With the mysterious weakening effect gone, it finally approached the corpse without hesitation. Its Godly Energy spread around the dead Shackal, enveloping the enormous body before lifting it into the air.
The contrast was almost comical. Without paying close attention to the extraordinary concentration of Godly Pressure radiating from the moth, one could barely notice its presence beside the massive corpse it was carrying. The creature looked so delicate that it seemed as though a strong gust of wind should have been enough to send it tumbling away. Yet, it carried the Peak Godly Horror’s body effortlessly, as if the enormous weight meant absolutely nothing to it.
Before leaving, the moth glanced in Rean and Roan’s direction one last time. Since it considered Godly Beasts to pose no real threat to it, and this place wasn’t its territory, it eventually decided to ignore them. With the corpse floating behind it, the tiny Godly Apex departed as casually as it had arrived.
One thing was certain: carrying a Peak Godly Horror’s enormous body hadn’t even made it break a sweat.
The moth soon left the range of Rean and Roan’s Godly Senses. Rean immediately checked the airplane’s radar, but the creature remained within its detection coverage for only a few dozen more seconds before disappearing from the display as well.
*Zush! Zush! Zush!*
Everyone reappeared inside the airplane, with Tobao and Arcis looking particularly relieved. The two Law Gods had remained tense throughout the encounter, and now that the danger had finally passed, they could finally relax.
"I never thought I’d feel so nervous around a bug..." Arcis commented, shaking his head.
Tobao ignored the remark and immediately turned to Rean. "Did the Sanctuary’s weakening effect work on the moth?"
Rean nodded. "It did. It worked almost too well, actually. The effect scared the moth so much that it refused to remain inside the Sanctuary’s range for more than a second. Only after the effect disappeared did it dare approach us and stay within two hundred meters for longer."
That was the Sanctuary’s current range, although the twins could increase it by spending Orb Points on an upgrade.
"However..." Roan looked in the direction the moth had departed. "It definitely wasn’t an Initial Godly Apex. Its power dropped drastically inside the Sanctuary, but not enough to bring it down to the level of a Godly Horror. Even after being weakened, it still possessed the raw power of a Godly Apex, just weaker than originally."
By now, Arcis, Tobao, and Kachia had already learned about the classification system the twins used, which was based on Kentucky’s idea of comparing the strength of Godly Creatures with cultivators’ cultivation stages. Simply put, an Initial Godly Apex would be equivalent to an Initial Stage Region God, with the higher stages following the same pattern.
Rean checked the readings recorded by the airplane’s radar. "I can make a rough guess based on the fluctuations in the moth’s Godly Pressure after it left the Sanctuary’s range. I’d say it was a Middle Godly Apex. Naturally, once it entered the Sanctuary, its power dropped to the Initial level."
Tobao narrowed his eyes, already suspecting where this conversation was heading. "You can’t possibly be thinking about going after that thing, right?"
"Of course not!" Rean confirmed without hesitation.
Tobao and the others sighed in relief...
For approximately one second.
"I’m having it come after us instead," Rean finished with a smile.
