Death… And Me

Chapter 3777: The Joint Attack

Chapter 3777: The Joint Attack

Around an hour later, Rean and Roan were making their way deeper into the Umbral Field. Then, from Rean’s shoulder, a little bit of the Layer of Shadow Energy changed into a dark cloud before it took the shape of an eye. It was Xian, looking around with curiosity. "Wow... I’ve never been more than a few kilometers from the borders before."

The twins still couldn’t see many Umbras, and the huge majority were all Level One. Those at Level Two could be counted on one hand, and the twins were moving pretty fast. "Do you have any idea how big the Umbral Field is, Xian?"

Xian’s eye shook from one side to the other. "No. I don’t think anyone where I live has any idea about how big it is, but it is definitely enormous."

That much the twins could tell. Since Xian had never seen a Level Three Umbra while he knew they existed, it served as an example. You would expect the territory of those higher-level ones to be much larger, after all.

As Rean and Xian talked, Roan stopped for a moment and made another cutting motion with his hand. Spatial and Time Powers gathered, attempting to create a Spatial Gate that would connect back to the real world.

*Bzzz...*

Unfortunately, the same ancient runes appeared out of nowhere again, preventing Roan from succeeding.

"What was that?" Xian couldn’t help but ask, having never seen that before.

Rean just laughed, spending some time explaining what Roan was attempting.

Roan ignored that, instead talking to Kentucky inside the Celestial Soul Dimensional Realm. ’How was it?’

’Yes, you are going in the right direction,’ Kentucky confirmed. ’In fact, the connection felt stronger than ever in this place. It should have been strong enough that even you felt something with your Spatial Abilities.’

Roan concentrated on those runes, and although it was barely perceptible, Roan indeed felt the connection of those runes towards further into the Umbral Field. ’So that’s the connection you were talking about. I still can’t tell exactly where I should go, so keep guiding us.’

’On it!’ Kentucky kept working.

The twins continued doing the same thing every two or three hours, just so Kentucky could confirm the right direction. By now, they couldn’t see the walls that separated this Umbral Field from the outside anymore. There weren’t many of those Floating Black Spheres that the Umbras used as homes. But after traveling this far, they had covered their entire visual field.

Enough time for a week or so soon went by, and the twins still barely ever met Level Two Umbras. There was a difference, though. At this point, they found more Umbras with Law Powers equivalent to Late and Peak Stage Space-Time Realm Experts than the lower end.

There was another fact. Those at Level Two that the twins found were just like Tissal and Calanti near the border. The Laws’ Power that the twins felt only categorized the Umbras as Initial or Middle Stage Divinity Realm Experts. They hadn’t seen a single Level Two Umbra that had power similar to the Late and Peak Stage ones.

A turning point finally arrived on the eleventh day. They saw the first Level Two Umbra with a power similar to a Late Stage Divinity. He was in his black cloud form, trapping a Level One Umbra and absorbing its energy.

There were no Level One Umbras similar in power to Xian anymore. Those here were at least equivalent to a Late Stage Space-Time Realm, and the one trapped there was actually similar to a Peak Stage.

Surprisingly, the Level One Umbra didn’t just stay quiet while his energy was taken away from him. He tried to fight back, which obviously caused pain on the Level Two Umbra. It was totally different from what happened back at the border, where the low-level Umbras didn’t fight, afraid of dying.

’That’s interesting,’ Roan stopped and paid close attention. ’Both of them know that if the Level One Umbra fights back, there would be a chance for the Level Two guy to suffer mental damage. No doubt the Level Two Umbra threatened to kill him if that happened, but it is still happening. Isn’t that Level One Umbra afraid of dying after all his energy is taken away?’

Neither Rean nor Xian could answer that. Xian hadn’t seen anyone fighting back before, after all.

The twins approached slowly to see if they could find out more. Then, they began to hear the voices of both sides.

"You fucker! Stop struggling and give up your energy!" The Level Two cursed.

Yet, the Level One guy couldn’t care less. "Fuck you! I would rather die than risk losing my emotional energy again. Let’s not even talk about my memories!"

Back then, Xian explained to the twins that even though they don’t fight back, when their energy is taken, their memories get affected, even if just a little. There were even times when Xian forgot where he lived and had to be brought back by someone else.

"Then you will die! I will suck you until even your soul disappears!" The guy cursed again.

"Hahaha!" The Level One Umbra laughed while his expression actually showed intense pain. "Do you think I’m an idiot? In this place, those at your level never let us Level One Umbras live anyway. You always make sure you absorb our Emotional Energy until we disappear entirely! I might as well try to cause you as much harm as I can, take this!"

The Level One Umbra released a burst of Shadow Energy that spread everywhere. The Shadow Energy was hostile instead of calm. The Level One Umbra truly had no intent of going down without a fight.

Still, the Level Two Umbra was much stronger, and he absorbed all the released hostile Shadow Energy at once.

*Ugh...*

A grunt could be heard, but the Shadow Energy was taken nonstop. It was quite evident that both sides were suffering significantly. Of course, the Level One guy had the worst of it.

Roan’s eyes then turned in another direction, and he saw another Umbra approaching slowly. No, there wasn’t just one Umbra, but nine of them. ’Oh-ho... quite bold I should say.’
