Death… And Me

Chapter 3780: Gaps

Chapter 3780: Gaps

Rean let go of his Sword, and only Roan kept the cage and the Umbra under control. "Xian, come out and hold my hand."

Xian was puzzled, but he did as Rean asked. The two layers of Shadow Energy that covered Rean and Roan detached from their bodies. Only a tiny bit of Xian’s energy remained behind to keep hiding the twins’ intentions and souls from possible Umbras passing nearby.

Xian took his child-like form, holding Rean’s hand.

"Good." Rean’s Light Element began to flow into Xian, but it was just a tiny bit since its Yang Energy was harmful to Umbras. "It hurts a little, but it should be nothing compared to the times when you got your Shadow Energy absorbed by Calanti or Tissal."

Xian confirmed. "Yes, I can bear with this, Senior Rean. What do I do now?"

"Just absorb his energy," Rean said. "I’ll take care of the rest."

Xian was still apprehensive, but he trusted Rean as he could feel the twins’ intentions. They truly wanted the best for him. Slightly hesitating, Xian’s hand changed into that cloudy form, pressing it against that Umbra’s body. Roan left a gap just for Xian’s hand to pass through in the Red Lightning Cage.

Only then did Xian start absorbing the Umbra’s Shadow Energy as he connected to that Umbra’s soul.

*Ugh!*

Sure enough, the moment he did it, the Umbra fought back, and the Shadow Energy became hostile. Yet, that pain of absorbing an unwilling Umbra only lasted a fraction of a second.

’Life Style, Purification!’

Rean’s ultimate purification ability! As long as it was something harmful, like poison, corruption, and such, the skill would get rid of it all! That was Roan’s plan. Using his Divine Sense earlier, Roan saw those Umbras and their Shadow Energies being absorbed everywhere.

While Rean has the ultimate Purification Ability, Roan is the best at detecting the energies and substances that would require Rean’s Purification to clear. Roan would definitely be an outstanding poison master, although he doesn’t follow that path since his Dark Element is more than enough for him.

Thanks to that, he noticed that the ’hostility’ Xian often talked about was more like a poison, a type of harmful energy that comes from the host’s soul and mixes with his Shadow Energy. Probably not even the Umbras noticed that, but Roan definitely wouldn’t let it pass, especially since he also had Rean, who was the best at working with souls, and confirmed his theory.

Now, Rean was working on that harmful energy inside the Shadow Energy, eliminating it before it mixed with Xian’s Shadow Energy and ultimately his soul. Naturally, that Shadow Energy became the purest energy Xian had ever felt. Let alone cause harm to his mind and personality. If anything, Xian felt that Shadow Energy was extremely nourishing to himself, with no side effects.

"This..." Xian couldn’t help but look at Rean. "How are you doing this, senior?"

Rean laughed in response. "Believe me, I have a lot of experience with this kind of thing. Still, it was the Ice Block who noticed it was possible and asked me to help him check if this would work. Oh, there is no need to thank him, though. Roan likely only wanted to test his theory."

"Hmph!" Roan nodded slightly. "At least you know that."

Yet, Rean’s Divine Sense reached Xian at the same time. ’See? I told you he would never admit such a thing.’

Xian couldn’t help but giggle a little, answering Rean through that little bit of Shadow Energy he left on Rean’s body. ’Senior Roan is the coldest softy I’ve ever seen.’

"Hahaha!" Rean burst out in laughter.

Roan narrowed his eyes, certain that Rean and Xian were talking about him again, but he wasn’t in the mood to meddle with all that shit. "Focus! If I see you wasting any of this Shadow Energy, I’ll make you regret it."

"Y-Yes!" Xian quickly nodded and put all his attention on absorbing the Shadow Energy from that Umbra.

Rean’s Purification truly made Xian’s life easier than ever. He was absorbing that energy hundreds of times faster than he did with the mindless Umbras. However, that wasn’t all. Soon, Xian noticed another benefit. "Wait... these memories..."

The Shadow Energy, the purest Xian could ever hope for, began to mend the flaws inside Xian’s mind and soul. "I can remember..."

As mentioned before, Xian had been captured to have his Shadow Energy absorbed many, many times. There were also various other times he gave his energy to the little ones on purpose to save them. As a result, his memories had many gaps.

It turns out those memories weren’t really wiped from existence. Instead, they had been there all the time. It’s just that Xian and other Shadows simply lost the ability to access those memories due to those same flaws. Even higher-level Umbras couldn’t do anything about it. To all Umbras, it was common sense that once a memory was gone, it was gone for good. Yet, here he is, recovering the access to those lost memories, many of which were precious moments with various of his deceased Big Brothers and Sisters.

"Senior Rean, Senior Roan..." Xian would be crying now if he had real tears. Yet, the pain and, at the same time, the happiness in his heart were obvious for the brothers to see. As for the pain from Rean’s Light Element, it was as if it didn’t exist for Xian anymore. "I swear I will do my absolute best to help you..."

Roan looked away and ignored.

Rean, on the other hand, faintly smiled, using his free hand to pat the little guy’s head. "Is that so? Then I’m looking forward to it."

Xian ended up absorbing that Umbra’s Shadow Energy even faster than Tissal absorbed his last time he was captured. In a matter of a few minutes, three, to be more specific, that new Level Two Umbra was gone. Without the Shadow Energy to hold him in place, what remained of his soul collapsed and dissipated in front of the trio.

"Thank you," Xian bowed to the disappearing soul, "I’ll make sure to use it for what you really wanted when you first got here."

"He really wanted?" Rean was curious. "Were you able to see his past memories?"

Xian shook his head, though. "No. But from what I felt earlier, I’m certain this was not his real self... Or maybe I just want to believe it."

Roan paid more attention to Xian. It felt like he matured a little after what just happened. ’No, it would be better to say that he is recovering the mentality he should have had if his soul and mind were never affected,’ Roan thought to himself. For Roan, that was a good thing. Xian would be able to make better decisions in the future.

Rean patted Xian’s head again. "The I will believe it with you."
