Death… And Me

Chapter 3929: The Ghost!

Chapter 3929: The Ghost!

At the end of the ninth day, Roan and Kristan returned to the Divine Military Academy. At first, no one there noticed anything out of the norm. After all, there were thousands of groups going in and out of the Divine Descent Platforms where the teleport formations were located every day.

However, it was Roan we were talking about, one of the four Celestial Ascendant Radiances who joined recently. His arrival there slowly caught several eyes as he walked away.

Yet, the spectators’ eyes didn’t stay on Roan for much longer. That’s because right behind him, there was a ghost following. It was bald, with ragged clothes and an expression of something that had gone to hell and came back a few times in a roll. Some even used their Divine Sense to check if it was really alive or not.

Who else could that ghost be if not Kristan? After those seven days of ’dedicated’ apprenticeship, his mind was blank, as he couldn’t think of anything other than the terrors he went through.

Are we talking about his near-death experience when the ambush happened? Ha! What a joke! Poor Kristan had already forgotten that the event had taken place. Compared to his last seven days under Roan’s ’special tutelage,’ he pretty much desired to be ambushed a few more times. It would have been much easier to deal with.

"Oh! I almost failed to recognize you!" Suddenly, someone spoke to Kristan from behind. "Boy, you look like shit. Oh well, you always looked like shit, so I guess nothing changed."

The ghost turned around, having a hard time focusing his mind on the figure.

*Wooooo...*

Only a ghost-like sound came from his mouth.

Kristan did recognize the man, though. His name was Larsi, one of the various direct descendants of his clan from the same generation.

The two of them had never been on good terms, and none of the direct descendants have either. Normally, Kristan would strike back with his own words. A small exchange could even happen right there and then, and no one would bother with it. It was a pretty common sight between those of the same clan, so nothing exceptional there. Everyone wanted to stand out the most so they could receive more resources from the clan, after all.

Yet, this time, Kristan turned around again, completely ignoring Larsi. It wasn’t that Larsi’s words didn’t bother him, but that the experiences of the last seven days truly made this kind of interaction seem meaningless to him.

*woooowoooo...*

Larsi was taken aback, gritting his teeth. "I’m talking to you!"

Larsi punched forward, fully intent on humiliating Kristan for ignoring him. Of course, he didn’t intend to kill or cause any serious injuries, as Larsi would be the one to pay in the end due to the academy’s rules.

However, Kristan’s hand seemed to become a mirage as a black feather fan appeared on it. Some rays of black light appeared and disappeared in the path of Larsi’s hand, giving Larsi no time to think.

*Cra-cra-cra-cra-crack!!!*

*Arrrghhh!*

Out of nowhere, Larsi’s entire arm broke in several places, and the Dark Element quickly began to corrode it as it entered all the meridians.

Larsi fell to the ground, screaming in pain. One of the elders there had to come quickly and help him get rid of that Dark Element. Otherwise, he would definitely lose his arm.

The elder looked at Kristan. He wanted to say something, but looking at the ghost’s face, he held his words inside. ’Is this thing even alive?’

But then...

*Slap!*

Roan approached Kristan, slapping his face soundly! "Snap out of your bullshit already. Look, the elder wants to talk to you!"

"Ah! Yes, yes, yes!" Kristan’s soul finally came back to his body, looking at what just happened. "So-Sorry, elder. He was the one who tried to attack me from behind; everyone saw it. I just retaliated by instinct. Should I help remove the Dark Element from his body?"

The elder didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. The ghost suddenly returned from the land of the dead with a single slap from the black-haired guy. Even Kristan’s pale expression disappeared. Well, he was still bald, and it would take some time to regrow his hair. "Forget it... This boy was at fault, so he can only blame himself. You two just came back from a mission, right? Go to the Mission Console Hall and report the events."

"Yes, right away, elder!" Kristan nodded. As for Roan, he was already several meters ahead, so Kristan quickly followed.

Everyone lost focus on Roan and actually paid closer attention to Kristan. Most of them didn’t even know who Kristan was. Let’s not forget that everyone in this Academy was a genius from their own territories and countries, so those who could really stand out and become famous in this place were rare. Kristan, however, definitely caught a lot of attention with his move just a moment ago. Few even understood what he did there.

Now with his soul back in his body, Kristan couldn’t help but ask. "So... Brother Roan... What should I do now that we are back?"

Roan glanced at him. "Why are you talking to me? We are done here. After this week, your fan form evolved from a complete piece of shit to just terrible, so this should be enough of a prize for you after everything. Whether you report what happened or not is up to you. I still think you will be just digging your own grave if you do, though. Making this report is the same as going against the Principal’s will, and I definitely wouldn’t go there."

"I... I won’t..." Kristan had already made up his mind. "What I’m asking is what should I report instead? I’m the captain of our group, after all..."

Roan stopped for a moment, nodding. "Right. Just tell them that there was an ambush waiting, and that we all fought to the best of our abilities. But in the end, only you and I survived. We did recover the equipment, though. If someone asks to check your CD, just tell them the Academy had the records stored away or something like that."

"Will that even work?" Kristan had his doubts.

"The principal already knows what happened, so he will make it work," Roan explained. "As for your country, that’s something you will have to think for yourself. Who knows, perhaps there is truly a chance that they didn’t know anything. I’m going back to cultivate after the report. Farewell."

And thus, Roan separated from Kristan there. Who knows if their fates would bring them together again...
