Death… And Me

Chapter 4140: Cloe’s Interest

Chapter 4140: Cloe’s Interest

And so they did it. They approached the Great Void Shifter that had a connection to A7, and this one was not abandoned. An entire city surrounded that Great Void Shifter. The difference was that this Shifter was quite old and barely ever used, even for the likes of Rank B Universes.

Due to that, the protection around was shallow, and there was only a single Celestial watching it, an Initial Stage one. With Sister Orb’s help and Rean’s concealing skills, they easily infiltrated the building where the Shifter was located. They used the Celestial Soul System to open the Abyssal Path, entering the Black Tunnel a second later. The Abyssal Path opened and closed without anyone seeing a thing.

Roan was correct about what he said before. The Abyssal Path that connected B38 and A7 was indeed located in a place where the shifter was being watched. It was different from the B38 side, where there was a city. This one was a destroyed shifter with nothing around, which was only being watched because of the things the twins’ group had done so far.

The Black Tunnel suddenly opened above it, catching the attention of the few experts around. This one had three Celestials and a bunch of Divinities watching. Obviously, some formations had been prepared ahead of time for this very occasion.

The twins’ group appeared, and the formations activated. At the same time, the Celestials attacked. They were already informed that the only way someone could get to that place was if they were the enemies the Werdlem Empire was looking for.

Too bad, though. There wasn’t a single Peak Stage Celestial present. The moment they attacked, the twins’ group retaliated. As they did, the imprisoning and slaughtering formations also assaulted the twins’ group.

Too bad that just three Celestials and a bunch of Divinities were too far from enough to threaten the twins’ group. Sister Orb easily took over the formations, as none of them were at the Legendary Level. Even better than that. Hick quickly created a boundary in the area right after they appeared. With the boundary in place, the Werdlem Network couldn’t be accessed. So, there were no reinforcements coming anytime soon.

’Red Death, Death Cross!’

*Swish, swish!*

Roan’s Crystal Void Scythes cut through the Celestial in front of him, destroying his soul and body with his Dark Element and Celestial Laws in the next few seconds. He looked around and saw that Rean and the others also finished their jobs. "Alright, let’s clean the area. Don’t leave any traces behind. Make it look like nothing happened here."

There was no need to feel bad for those experts, as they came at the twins’ group with the intention of killing them straight away. Even in Rean’s case, he showed no remorse. If you were willing to kill, you’d better be ready to die as well.

The job was done in a few moments, and soon, Kentucky opened a Spatial Gate, which the twins’ group entered. It would take a few days until someone finally came to check those experts, and that’s just because they stopped contacting their backgrounds.

Somewhere else, in the middle of the Great Void, Cloe had a smile on her face as she checked the battle she had against Roan through her CD. She recorded everything, and the more she looked at it, the more she wanted to go back there to fight again. "Truly, what a challenge. The other members of his group were also pretty good, especially that white-haired guy. However, the one I fought... There was something extra about him. He definitely didn’t show everything he could do."

On her side, another Celestial looked at the same images, although he didn’t look the least bit happy. "Cloe, they killed Wecio and Raio! Why are you laughing? Wecio and Raio were also Balance Breakers, you know? And yet..."

Cloe looked at him. "Hmph! Sometimes I wonder how you reached this level, Thomas. You don’t deserve to be a Balance Breaker if all you can feel is fear."

Thomas narrowed his eyes. "Who the hell is showing fear? I’m just not a battle maniac like you!"

Cloe didn’t believe him. "Up to this point in your life, you’ve never found anyone who was stronger than you at the same level, only others with at most a similar strength. You’re a Balance Breaker, after all. Well, except for me, but since I’m also under the Werdlem Empire’s wings, we would never face each other. That’s what is bothering you, isn’t it? That they seem to be stronger than you, especially the black and white-haired duo."

"I’m more curious about why it doesn’t bother you instead," Thomas countered. "If we fail to take them down, the Werdlem Empire might think we aren’t of any use anymore. If that happens, we are both fucked! Everyone is!"

Cloe thought for a moment. "Hum... it would be complicated to deal with Soza, that’s for sure. And the seal in our souls doesn’t help very much. But that doesn’t bother me. If I die, I die, that’s about it. I’m true to myself, and at the moment, what I want is to fight this... Roan, is it? I’m counting on you and the others to keep the rest of them busy so no one will intervene in my battle against him."

Thomas gave up. "You know what? Forget I said anything. It was a waste of time. In any case, we will have to find them again. We spread our forces into several routes last time, after all. We can’t really tell which routes they will take until they use it, so we were lucky that they just happened to use the route we were watching."

Cloe nodded slightly, turning her head to a beast not too far behind her. "Hokoyui, can’t you do anything about it?"

Hokoyui wasn’t a Balance Breaker. He wasn’t a Celestial to start with. However, he was an Abyssal Beast, and the one who detected the twins’ group presence in the Abyssal Path and damaged the route that forced the twins’ group out.

He didn’t look very happy either. He definitely wasn’t helping because he wanted to, but because he had no choice. His race was in the hands of the Werdlem Empire, and they could only comply. If they didn’t, the Werdlem Empire would kill the very few members of his race, which were already extremely rare.

"If you want to find them, you need to at least tell me where they are going. Otherwise, we can only spread our forces and hope they use one of the routes we are watching. Or, rely even more on our luck, gather everyone in a single route, and hope they will take that specific one," he explained.

Cloe shrugged. "That is too much luck for my liking. Anyway, let’s go back. The job to find these guys’ trail is not ours. I just hope the Werdlem Empire can find something soon."

With that, another Abyssal Path opened a moment later, and Cloe left with her group, being shielded by the Abyssal Beast. Who knows when she would find Roan again, if she did at all.
