Chapter 4157: Cloe and Thomas
The Underworld of the Werdlem Universe was fairly populous, and not only with Devils. It had been countless years since the Werdlem Universe unified all the realms. It happened way before any of the Rank A Universes did the same.
That said, around 25% of the population in the Underworld were actually races that benefited from the high concentration of Dark Element, but were not originally Devils, Devil Beasts, Devil Spirits, and so on. You could find similar facets in the Heavens as well.
At the center of the Underworld, you would find its Reincarnation Path, now heavily fortified, and several Celestials within various stages watching over. Inside one of the recently built buildings, Cloe polished a saber that looked pretty old. As mentioned before, she was also a Seventh Stage of Weapon Intent user, so she had no use for physical weapons anymore. Yet, it was obvious to anyone that that saber held a deeper meaning for her.
"Do you really need that relic of yours?" Thomas, the same Balance Breaker from the last time, asked Cloe as he entered the room.
Cloe glanced at him for a moment and focused back on her saber. "Not really. It is what you are seeing, nothing but a piece of junk. If you ask any Foundation Establishment cultivator who knows anything of forging to make one, he likely would make a saber a hundred times better than this. Let’s not even talk about a real blacksmith with a cultivation similar to ours. I feel like if I squeeze it even a little bit, it will simply burst into a thousand pieces."
Thomas shrugged. "And yet, you work on it so carefully. I’ve always been curious. Just what is so good about this saber, then?"
Cloe raised it above her head, the light on the ceiling reflecting on the crudely made blade. And yet, it looked the most beautiful weapon in existence for Cloe. "I got it on a pile of scrap metal in the city where I was born. I don’t know about you, but my start in the cultivation world wasn’t exactly glamorous. My father and mother were harsh, but good people. Too bad they were as poor as you could imagine, so I had no resources. It was a mortal planet of a Rank F Universe."
She then sheathed her saber again, sending it back into her Pocket Dimensional Realm and getting up. "Nonetheless, this saber was the start of everything. I was hooked. I began to fight my peers to the point my mother had to come out and take that saber from me, saying this wasn’t something a lady should be doing. Well, my father was more lenient, so he let me do as I pleased, much to my mother’s displeasure."
"I had no teachers, but eventually, I got used to it. This saber was with me all the way to the Core Formation Realm. And in case you don’t know, reaching the Core Formation Realm in a mortal planet of a Rank F Universe is a big, big deal. Anyway, I was forced to get new and better sabers from that point onward, but I’ve never thrown my first saber away."
Thomas looked at her, puzzled. "I know I was the one who asked. Still, am I supposed to cry with that story?"
Cloe looked back at him. "Hahaha! Indeed, it is nothing worth crying about at all. My story is nothing that rare if you think about the cultivation world as a whole. And yet, here am I, a balance breaker and the strongest one of the entire Werdlem Empire."
Thomas narrowed his eyes. He didn’t like it when Cloe talked about herself as the strongest, but the annoying part was that he couldn’t refute her. Cloe was indeed stronger than he was. The only ones stronger than her were those above the Celestial Realm. "You say that, but your face doesn’t give me all that feeling of happiness for being the strongest Celestial."
Cloe didn’t hide it. "I guess we aren’t so different, you and I. I can also tell that you aren’t satisfied with your Peak Stable Celestial Realm and Balance Breaker status. This is not enough. I want more. I want to go further."
Thomas thought about it for a moment. "For that, we will have to ascend first, but..."
"I know," Cloe cut in, "the contract doesn’t allow us to take the next step. But what could we have done, right? We were balance breakers. We could pose a huge threat to the Universes of the Werdlem Empire. Had we not signed them, we wouldn’t be alive to start with. The only question is whether we will be allowed to ascend once our contract is over."
Thomas scratched the back of his head. "I don’t see why not. Ascending also means we would be part of the Werdlem Empire in the Celestial Plane. The end of our contract isn’t that far if you think about it. We will be allowed to ascend way before we start to lose our hearts."
"I wonder..." Cloe wasn’t so confident.
Every time they tried to learn more about the Celestial Plane, they were barred from doing so. It wasn’t only them. Pretty much the entire Werdlem Imperial Family knew almost nothing about the Celestial Plane, with very few exceptions, like the Emperor himself. She always thought there was something behind this gag rule. "Anyway, we can only do with what we have. Any news about our friends?"
Thomas shook his head. "After that fight of ours, the Abyssal Beasts didn’t detect any of the Abyssal Paths being used without the use of Authorized Great Void Shifters. It will be very hard for them to come to the Werdlem Universe now. Truth be told, I don’t know what we are doing here. We would have a better chance of finding them if we simply stayed close to the Abyssal Beasts until they caught something."
"Don’t worry. They are definitely coming here," Cloe smiled as she thought about her short fight against Roan. "That guy, those eyes. He is the type who sees things through."
Thomas had his doubts but didn’t comment on them. "If you say so..."
A few thousand kilometers from there, a Devil Bird flew above the barren dark land. It was a simple Stage Three Devil beast, far from developing its intelligence yet.
*KABRUM!*
Suddenly, a Dark Lightning Bolt fell from the dark skies, hitting the Devil Bird and pulverizing it completely. Not a single cell remained. A devil suddenly appeared where the Devil Bird was killed, checked the surroundings, and left a few seconds later.
This wasn’t new in those areas. If anything, the new event was that these birds weren’t killed before. It only started after the twins’ invasion various decades ago.
No one was allowed to even get close to the Reincarnation Path, and everything had to be killed on site. If you wanted to enter that place, it had to be through a Great Void Shifter, which was only found inside the Werdlem Imperial Palace.
Yet, little did that Devil know that two eyes were looking at him from a distance when he killed the Devil Bird.
