Chapter 4166: Shall We Start?
Thomas and the other Celestials looked at that. It was more like they had seen a ghost. Caladara died, and she died because Cloe, the Werdlem Empire’s strongest Balance Breaker, suddenly betrayed them and helped the enemy!
Who could have expected that? No! First of all! How could she risk helping the enemy! She is under the contract! It was a Special Contract from the Celestial Plane that worked on Celestial Realm Experts. With that contract in place, once the Werdlem Empire heard that she betrayed them, they would immediately kill her.
That wasn’t all. The Werdlem Empire controlled all the cultivation energies that the experts used. If, for some miracle, she didn’t die due to the contract, she would still be cut off from the cultivation energies of the world! Even access to the Celestial Energy would be impossible! Why would she do such a thing?!
"C-Cloe!!!" Thomas shouted in her direction! "What the hell are you doing?!"
Cloe looked at Thomas, her smile even bigger. "Come on, Thomas. It is not that surprising, is it? We both hate the Werdlem Empire to the core. The only difference is that I was willing to finally make a move. Do you really believe they will simply let us go to the Celestial Plane when our contract is over? Ha! What a joke! The only way they will allow us to ascend is if we remain bound by the contract! I’m not in the mood to be their dog for the rest of my cultivation life."
No one attacked at that moment. With Cloe on the twins’ side, the picture completely changed. Yes, the Werdlem Empire still had the advantage in numbers here. However, Cloe and Roan, Roan being obviously as strong as Cloe, were on the same side. If anything, it was likely that the twins’ group had the advantage in overall strength now!
Then... "I hope you don’t disappoint me," Cloe said, her expression firm as she looked at Roan.
Roan nodded slightly. "As I said, I can’t guarantee it, but the chances are good." Right after, he touched Cloe’s shoulder, and she disappeared. Roan sent Cloe into the Celestial Soul Dimensional Realm, and Cloe allowed him to do so! That would put her completely at Roan’s group’s mercy!
---
Now, how come Cloe suddenly joined the twins’ group? It looked so ridiculous that Hick, Nyxara, Kentucky, Soltrex, and even Rean didn’t know about it until a moment ago. Rean was only made aware of this plan seconds after Cloe appeared, before Roan started fighting her.
To answer that, we need to rewind time all the way back to when Roan and Cloe first met each other.
Back then, Cloe and her group used the Abyssal Beast called Hikoyui to detect the moment the twins’ group used the Abyssal Path. Then, the Abyssal Beast broke the Abyssal Path, which forced the twins’ group to come out of their transfer to another Universe.
Cloe and her companions then fought Roan and the others. It’s just that they didn’t have enough people to take the twins’ group down. After the twins’ group killed the two Balance Breakers, Roan and Cloe fought each other, and they were clearly evenly matched.
The fight didn’t last that long, though. That’s because the twins’ group had the advantage with the death of those two Balance Breakers. So, in the end, Cloe sounded the retreat.
However, little did anyone know, and that included Rean. Cloe and Roan didn’t just fight each other. They also exchanged Divine Sense Messages, and Roan didn’t tell anyone about it.
What was the content of their Divine Sense exchange? To be true, the one who contacted the other first was Cloe! It wasn’t something Cloe decided to do at that moment, though. Instead, Cloe had already planned to contact the twins’ group for a while, and there was a very specific reason for that.
As mentioned before, the twins’ group had Victor Rampel and Caladara’s power over their bodies. Their power made it impossible for others to tell that the twins’ group came from outside the Werdlem Empire.
However, in Caladara’s case, she could use it to detect the twins’ group location. That was the key point here.
When Caladara got back to the Werdlem Empire and told everything she knew about the twins’ group, Cloe was also made aware of the contents of that conversation. It had to be so since Cloe was likely to fight the twins at some point. Thomas and the other Balance Breakers also heard the same thing Cloe did.
What no one expected was that Cloe saw an opportunity when she heard everything. She paid special attention to the part where Caladara said the twins’ group removed her power from their bodies, and because of that, she couldn’t track them anymore.
Caladara was from the Celestial Plane, and so was her power! At that moment, Cloe was bound by a contract from the Celestial Plane as well! There were no guarantees, but doesn’t that mean the twins’ group could MAYBE remove the contract that constrained Cloe, too?
Cloe couldn’t lose that chance! She made sure she was always sent to help look for the twins’ group, and eventually, she was in the right place at the right time. The twins’ group really appeared, and to make things even better, they also seemed immune to the Werdlem Empire’s cultivation energies manipulation. Wasn’t that perfect?
So, she talked to Roan through Divine Sense as they exchanged blows during their first encounter all those years ago. Her request was very simple: Cloe wanted the twins’ group to get rid of her contract.
Roan, obviously, wouldn’t simply do as she asked. Why would he? Even if he could help Cloe, what did he have to gain from it? Let’s say that she wouldn’t intervene anymore? Could he trust her word? Of course not! Roan wanted proof!
Thus, they reached a deal. At that moment, the greatest danger for the twins’ group wasn’t the Balance Breakers. They knew very well it was experts of Soza, Victor, and Caladara’s level instead. He wouldn’t mind trying to help Cloe get rid of her contract, but for that, she would have to help them get rid of Caladara, Soza, or someone at that level.
Not Victor, of course, as Victor seemed to have completely disappeared since the day he helped them.
Cloe accepted, and while they still forgot each other, they also exchanged CD numbers. Cloe passed to Roan a CD number that wasn’t really hers, but from someone inside her Pocket Dimensional Realm that the Werdlem Empire didn’t know about. After all, Cloe’s own CD, which connected to the Werdlem Network with her own Werdlem Energy Signature, was definitely monitored nonstop.
Eventually, Soltrex and Sister Orb found where Aurethra was located. Without telling anyone, Roan contacted Cloe and told her that they found a way into the Reincarnation Path without being detected.
Cloe was surprised to hear that, as she knew just what kind of defenses were in place around the Reincarnation Path. Still, why would she doubt that? If they found a way in, even better. Cloe couldn’t make any moves herself due to the fact that she was constantly monitored.
So, Roan and Cloe discussed the plan. All Cloe had to do was find a way to lure someone of Caladara or Soza’s level there and help Roan get his kill. It was a gamble. A gamble to see if she would truly join their side. There was no guarantee that Cloe would hold her end of the deal. But since Roan had the Relay Node and Celis waiting outside, he decided it was worth trying.
In the end, Cloe’s hate for the Werdlem Empire was genuine, and when the time came, she made her move with conviction! Roan guaranteed Cloe that he would make Caladara drop her guard. It was up to Cloe to take that chance or not. Well, she did, and together, they killed their first Celestial Plane Expert!
Now, Roan sent Caladara into the Celestial Soul Dimensional Realm. If Cloe’s Contract was really possible to be removed, it would be done there, by Sister Orb.
---
Back at the present.
*Zush!*
Cloe suddenly appeared outside once more. She didn’t spend more than two seconds inside. Cloe stretched her body, feeling like a burden had been lifted from her shoulders. "That thing has been there in my soul ever since the Werdlem Empire recruited me. You have no idea how it felt to not own your own destiny. Anyway, our deal is concluded."
Roan nodded. "I’ve never gone back on my word, and it wouldn’t start today. You can do whatever you want. Leave, attack me, or whatever. I don’t care. Just Caladara’s elimination is already good enough."
Cloe’s Crystal Void Sabers appeared on her hands, the woman licking her lips. "Well, I’m not going anywhere since now I’m on the same boat as you. And I still need you guys to make sure my connection to the energies of the world isn’t cut off, so you can kind of call it my leash. Anyway, shall we start?"
