Death… And Me

Chapter 4288: You Are!

Chapter 4288: You Are!

Fifth day after Rean found a new slav- helper...

Rean was now having Araujo work on the seventh type of rune, once again, different from any of the previous six. Rean’s range of training was very broad and painful. Each type of rune required a different set of skills, especially if you made them without any equipment. The way you manipulated the energy outside your body changed in very complex ways.

Thus, Araujo failed with each rune many, many times. As a result, Rean jabbed at him just as many. There was a point when Araujo was forced to stop because his body was more black than white. Rean truly hit him that many times and in so many places.

After giving a healing pill to Araujo and waiting for his body to recover, the tortu- training resumed. Surprisingly, the airflow rune that Araujo thought was impossible to make was done in just a little over ten hours. In fact, he succeeded even earlier, but Rean didn’t accept that rune, saying it was terrible.

From there, Araujo moved from rune to rune, and now, as mentioned, he was on his seventh type, a rune of gravity manipulation.

The last piece of material was attached and welded into the rune with his Celestial Energy, which made Araujo sigh in relief. "Finally, it is done."

Rean took the rune...

*Puff!*

"Do I need to say why I broke it?" Rean asked, his eyes focused on Araujo.

Araujo couldn’t even manage to feel angry anymore. "Yeah, yeah. It is terrible. I’ll start again. I have a few ideas on how to better manage the energy and assemble the various pieces."

Surprisingly, Rean smiled again, something he hadn’t done since the training started. "The training is showing the results I wanted. The you from five days ago wouldn’t have any ideas whatsoever."

Araujo scratched the back of his head. He knew that was true. He refused to say it out loud, though. "Anyway, let me start."

As Araujo focused on the materials to make a new rune, Rean noticed someone else had entered the room. Even now, the door device was still broken since it wasn’t reported. So anyone could enter if they wanted. "Hum? You have been observing us for way longer than the other Array Masters who stopped by before. Still, didn’t you know it is impolite to interrupt the work of other Array Masters?"

Araujo’s concentration immediately broke, and he had to hold his tears. Impolite to interrupt? Didn’t Rean do exactly the same thing when Araujo was working? At least the newcomer hasn’t broken the door lock device.

"What are you looking at? Go back to work!" Rean rebuked Araujo.

Then, he turned back to the newcomer. "So?"

The guy looked at Rean with a determined expression. Suddenly...

*Tud!*

"Please, let me work on your project as well!" The guy suddenly said.

Rean’s eyebrow raised a little, but that lasted just a second. "Alright. Welcome."

"Eh?!" The guy was taken aback. "That easy? Won’t you ask anything? Not even my name?"

"Right, right. There is that, too," Rean nodded. "I’m Rean Larks. Who are you?"

"I’m Dristan..." Dristan hasn’t left the front of the transparent wall ever since he got here two days ago. While others only stayed a few minutes and lost interest after seeing the materials Rean and Araujo were using, Dristan saw a lot more. The runes Rean tossed aside before telling Araujo to work on something else were truly very good. Above all, Dristan found it incredible that they were made with those trash materials. "I wish to learn more, just like Araujo."

"Good. A single slave would take too long. Two will do it much better, especially since you are also a Middle Stage Aura God," Rean said. Well... he wasn’t hiding the fact he wanted slaves anymore...

"Sl-Slave?" Araujo and Dristan’s mouths twitched.

"What?" Rean looked at the two. "I’m transforming your lives with pure knowledge, and you also want payment for helping me later? We can go our own ways right now if you two want. If not, you will work with me on building my airplane later, without complaining and for free. What do you want? Shall we bid farewell here?"

Araujo quickly shook his head. "Slave it is."

Like hell he would pass this chance! So what if he had to work for free for a while? The amount of time he spent trying to reach level two was much, much more miserable. But now he can see it happening.

Dristan felt his pride hurting a little. That’s because he was already a Level Two Array Master. It’s just that even as a Level Two, he couldn’t make anything like Araujo was doing, and he knew Araujo was pretty below average. "Ahem... can’t we at least call it volunteer work?"

"Oh!" Rean nodded vigorously. "That does sound a lot better. Alright, you will be doing volunteer work for me later. Now, let’s go back to work, volunteers."

Even though Rean said ’volunteers’ at the end, Araujo and Dristan couldn’t help but feel that the word ’slave’ was what came out of Rean’s mouth.

Rean caught a bunch of materials from the ’treasure’ pile and threw them at Dristan. "Make a rune with these little guys, any rune will do. Let me see what you are capable of first."

Dristan looked at those materials. ’So much trash...’ He knew better not to say that out loud, though. These last two days showed him a very good example of what happened when you did that. "Understood."

Dristan began to work, and Rean did not intervene at any time. Instead, it looked more like Rean was paying attention to Araujo than anyone else. Finally, Dristan finished his rune and passed it to Rean.

Rean glanced at it, sighing in response. "Just why are the Array masters of the Besgol Region so bad? Isn’t this supposed to be the Celestial Plane? I won’t even bother breaking this rune of yours. What if your lack of ability is contagious?"

Dristan had already braced himself for Rean’s comments, but they still hurt. "It... isn’t that bad, right?"

Rean turned his eye away from the rune. "I guess it is better than what Araujo was doing at the start, at least. The fact I’m using Araujo as the bar to compare your rune should say everything about your work, though."

Araujo and Dristan were helpless. Can Rean be any more rude?

*Zush!*

A bunch of materials flew into Dristan’s hand again as Rean spoke. "Propulsion Energy Rune type 17, I need it with five energy receptors and three links. You can start."

"What?!" Dristan felt like he had heard it wrong. "That’s imposs-"

Araujo stopped him. "You’d better not finish your comment. That’s if you don’t want to feel as humiliated as I was, of course."

Dristan swallowed his words. Yes, he had seen enough so far. If Rean showed him how to do it, and without any equipment while being an Anchor God, that would indeed be very humiliating. That was still a Level One Rune, after all. "I... I’ll give it a try."

Rean smiled in response. "Who’s a good volunteer? Yes, yes you are!"
