Death… And Me

Chapter 4360: Concerns

Chapter 4360: Concerns

Tobao didn’t understand Roan.

-That’s why... what?-

Roan shook his head. "Forget it. I’m just thinking out loud."

-I see...- Tobao didn’t pay much attention to it. -So, that’s the problem I’m facing at the moment. Who should use the crystal in the end? I’m just looking for ideas. Perhaps you would select Kavile, since he was your Sect Master not long ago?-

Roan definitely didn’t have any reason to do so. "I’ve never even met the guy, so why should I care?" he replied before changing the subject. "Instead, I have a question for you."

-You can speak your mind,- Tobao answered.

"Why exactly would you do something as idiotic as consuming this crystal?"

Roan didn’t bother softening his words.

"Even though all of you keep saying that Besgol comes first, your solution is to use it to create a few Law Gods. Truly, what a disappointment."

Tobao was completely caught off guard. That wasn’t the answer he expected in the slightest. He had contacted Roan hoping to receive help selecting a candidate, yet Roan seemed to reject the entire premise of the discussion.

-Do you have a better idea?-

Roan shrugged. "That depends on whether you think the risks are worth taking or not."

-Just tell me already. What would you use the crystal for?-

"A farm."

Tobao blinked several times.

-A... farm? You mean using the crystal to enrich the soil and grow rare herbs for alchemy?-

"Uh? Herbs?" Roan looked surprised. "That wouldn’t actually be a bad idea, but that’s not what I meant. I’m talking about a Godly Creature Farm."

Seeing Tobao’s confusion, Roan continued.

"A Godly Crystal of that level would attract Godly Creatures nonstop the moment it leaves the settlement’s suppressing influence. It is so powerful that even Godly Creatures located extremely far away would sense it. If that’s the case, then use it to Besgol’s advantage."

His explanation remained calm and straightforward, as if he were discussing something obvious.

"Gather your Array Masters. Build a proper killing ground around the crystal. Create defensive arrays, traps, detection systems, harvesting teams, and everything else you might need. Let the crystal act as bait while cultivators continuously hunt whatever comes looking for it."

"The result would be a nearly endless source of Godly Crystals. Godly Spawn Crystals, Godly Beast Crystals, materials, training opportunities, combat experience, and countless other benefits. Not even a Godly Horror Crystal could achieve something like that. However, from what you’ve described, this mysterious crystal definitely can. It came from at least a Level Six Godly Creature, perhaps even higher."

Tobao fell silent after hearing the explanation. He truly hadn’t considered such a possibility before. From the very beginning, everyone had viewed the crystal as an expendable resource. Whether it was used for cultivation or arrays, the outcome would ultimately be the same—it would eventually disappear.

Roan’s proposal approached the issue from a completely different angle. Certainly, they would lose the immediate benefits that absorbing such a crystal could provide. New Law Gods wouldn’t suddenly appear, nor would powerful arrays receive a massive enhancement overnight.

However, the more Tobao thought about it, the more frightening the long-term implications became. A constant flow of Godly Crystals would strengthen the entire Besgol Region. More Anchor Gods would appear, which would lead to more Aura Gods, which in turn would lead to more Zone Gods. Given enough time, the number of cultivators capable of reaching the Law God Realm would naturally increase as well.

The crystal wouldn’t simply create two or three Law Gods. It could potentially help create countless powerful experts over the course of many generations. Beyond cultivation resources, the area could become a unique training ground where cultivators continuously sharpened themselves against Godly Creatures. Rare materials could be harvested in large quantities, alchemists would gain access to a steady supply of ingredients, and the settlement itself could develop into one of the most important locations in the entire Besgol Region.

The more Tobao considered the idea, the more foolish he felt for ever thinking about consuming the crystal directly.

-Thank you,- he finally replied. -I will have to bring this idea before the Godly Subjugation Guild, but I genuinely believe this may be the best use for the crystal.-

Roan nodded slightly. "Just be careful. As promising as the long-term benefits appear, the short-term temptation is incredibly difficult to ignore. That crystal is practically a free ticket into the Law God Realm. Some people won’t care about what it might accomplish ten thousand years from now. They’ll only think about what it can do for them today."

His expression turned serious as he continued.

"After all, what if my lifespan is running out? What if my chances of breaking through are nearly zero? What if this is the only opportunity I’ll ever receive? Those are the kinds of questions some people will ask themselves. Whether they admit it or not, they will."

Tobao’s expression darkened immediately. -Greed exists within everyone. However, we all understand what is at stake. If the leaders of Besgol thought only about themselves, this region would have fallen long ago.-

"That may be true," Roan replied, "but I doubt an opportunity like this has ever appeared before either."

His tone remained calm, yet every word carried weight. "Don’t mistake this for me trying to sow discord. I’m naturally suspicious of everyone and everything. That’s simply how I operate. It is one of the reasons we’ve survived this long. At the same time, that doesn’t mean you should trust me either. In fact, I wouldn’t trust me if I were in your position."

Roan leaned back slightly before finishing. "If you decide to go through with this plan, make absolutely sure the crystal is protected. The more valuable something becomes, the more people will be willing to take risks to obtain it."

Before Tobao could continue the discussion, Roan decided to end the conversation. "I’ve said everything I wanted to say. The decision belongs to you and the Guild. Just don’t mention where the idea came from. The last thing I need is someone blaming me because their path to the Law God Realm disappeared. Goodbye."

With that, the communication ended.

On Tobao’s side, his expression remained complicated. Naturally, Arcis noticed it immediately.

"It seems they didn’t give you a very good idea."

Tobao shook his head. "On the contrary, they gave me an idea so good that I can disregard almost every other proposal we’ve discussed until now. In fact, the settlement we’re building happens to be the perfect location to put it into practice."

Arcis raised an eyebrow. Such praise from Tobao wasn’t something he heard often. "Then why do you look like that? What was the idea?"

Rather than answer directly, Tobao used his Celestial Sense to share the details of the conversation.

As expected, Arcis quickly understood the implications.

"That really is the best use for the crystal..." he admitted. "But his other words are troubling."

Tobao nodded.

"Exactly. I don’t want to believe such things would happen. However, after hearing him explain it, I can’t ignore the possibility either. If we proceed with this plan, the crystal will become even more valuable than before. Because of that, we’ll need to be extremely careful about how it is protected and managed."

Arcis crossed his arms as he thought about it for a moment before asking the most important question. "So... are you going to do it?"

Tobao’s answer came without hesitation. "I am."

His gaze shifted toward the massive army gathered around the corridor project. "Gather everyone to the table again. Once this operation is finished, we’ll hold another discussion. If they understand the implications as clearly as we do now, I believe they’ll reach the same conclusion."

For the first time since receiving responsibility for the crystal, Tobao felt that he had finally found the correct path forward.
