Chapter 4589: Misfortune!
Across the infinite expanse of existence, countless entities routinely wished misfortune upon others with remarkable consistency.
Sometimes it stemmed from envy, from seeing another possess what they themselves desired. Sometimes it came from belief that their own misfortune had been caused by that other person, making revenge feel justified. Sometimes it arose simply from petty spite or wounded pride.
So they sat in their heads and wished constantly of misfortune befalling those they resented, imagining elaborate scenarios of downfall and suffering.
What most of these entities failed to realize, in their focus on directing negativity outward, was that more often than not they were actually wishing the same misfortune upon themselves.
Exisrence had a peculiar sense of irony about such things.
Consider, for instance, the cultivator who envied his neighbor’s success in advancing to a higher Realm. He would spend hours each day imagining that neighbor failing catastrophically, perhaps encountering a powerful beast that would cripple his cultivation foundation permanently.
He pictured it in vivid detail. The beast attacking. The neighbor’s techniques failing. The foundation cracking. The permanent damage.
And then, merely weeks later, that same cultivator would encounter a powerful beast in the form of a Young Master himself during his own advancement attempt. His techniques would inexplicably fail at the critical moment. His foundation would crack in precisely the way he had imagined for his neighbor.
He would collapse in confusion, wondering how existence could be so cruel to him specifically, never once connecting the irony that he had spent weeks visualizing and wishing for exactly this scenario to occur.
The misfortune he had wished upon another had somehow manifested for himself instead.
Existence had a way of reflecting intentions back to their source!
—
THE Maelstrom Thundermane was at this moment wholly and completely wishing all the misfortune there could possibly be upon the anomaly that he had chased into Ginnungagap.
Because of pursuing that anomaly, he had entered this unique region within The Infinite Unfurling that many entities with any sense actually stayed far away from.
Many knew there were more resources and grander Weavings of Existence available here compared to safer territories. But more often than not, they were simply not worth the risk because of the Malformed Ginnu Lifeforms who called this place home.
One had to be truly powerful at a fundamental level to appear here safely, or they might find themselves either collapsed by these ancient lifeforms or taken captive into their settlements as prisoners or research subjects.
THE Maelstrom Thundermane had been running around Ginnungagap for less than five minutes before he came across one of these terrifying lifeforms.
The Sovereignty of this particular entity had been so utterly horrid and overwhelming that it actually imposed itself in such a way as to force the other body that THE Maelstrom Thundermane had left outside Ginnungagap, the one guarding their precious treasure, to abandon its post completely.
His divided Existence had been forcibly merged back together, dragged entirely into Ginnungagap against his planning.
So now all of himself was trapped within this chaotic region. And he, an esteemed entity of The Level One Civilizational Scale of Existence, a being who had reached THE classification through dedicated advancement, was actually imprisoned here at this very moment.
Bound in chains formed from concepts he barely understood.
For the only solace in his Existence right now was hatred for the one who was responsible for all of this catastrophic chain of events.
He imagined again and again the misfortune that had surely already befallen that anomaly by now.
That anomaly had not even attained the state of THE classification yet. If such a weak entity was moving anywhere within Ginnungagap’s unstable territories, it would likely be unraveled by the instabilities of Existence itself within moments.
The chaotic environment would tear apart anything below THE scale.
And with how pathetically weak that anomaly was, once he was inevitably found by Malformed Ginnu Lifeforms, they would likely just devour him immediately for resources and would not even bother to bring him to a settlement as a prisoner.
So THE Maelstrom Thundermane simply wished and imagined that anomaly dying in the most painful way possible.
Being torn apart slowly by the unstable Weavings of Ginnungagap. Screaming in agony as his Existence dissolved. Realizing in his final moments that he had brought this upon himself!
This pleasant fantasy was one of his few consolation prizes for the misfortune that he found himself suffering right now.
But as he was indulging in these bitter thoughts while being dragged toward imprisonment, something caught his attention.
THE Maelstrom Thundermane, who was being forcibly escorted toward one of the cages by a Ginnu Lifeform, happened to see something in the corner of his vision.
He blinked in confusion before turning his head in that direction and looking across the distance.
There, walking calmly near the combat arena, was the figure of the exact anomaly he had been thinking about.
Looking directly back at him.
What?
What the fuck was this?
He had to make absolutely certain it was not an illusion or hallucination. He even asked himself if this was possibly some form of Civilizational Authority from another Malformed Ginnu Lifeform, showing him the worst possible thing that could be playing out right now in Existence as psychological torture.
But unbelievably, impossibly, in the distance stood the anomaly that had set off all of these catastrophic chain of events and caused him to be where he was right now!
Calmly standing beside a terrifyingly powerful hairy Malformed Ginnu Lifeform that had to be at least of THE Intermediate Depth or even THE Fundamental Depth of Absolute Sovereignty based on the oppressive presence radiating from it.
And that anomaly was even looking over toward THE Maelstrom Thundermane with an expression of genuine incredulity, as if surprised to see him here.
The two locked eyes across the distance.
Recognition flared between them.
In the next moment, THE Maelstrom Thundermane’s fury erupted with volcanic intensity.
He roared toward the nearby Malformed Ginnu Lifeform binding him, his voice carrying desperate rage.
"That anomaly there is not a Ginnu Lifeform! He needs to be bound and collapsed immediately! He is an outsider who should not be-"
Before his words could even finish, the Ginnu Lifeform holding his chains glanced in the distance toward Noah’s position.
The ancient being’s gaze found Ul’moreth standing beside the young entity.
Recognition and respect flashed through the Ginnu’s presence as he actually gave a deep bow of acknowledgment toward Ul’moreth from across the distance.
Then the Ginnu turned back toward THE Maelstrom Thundermane with expression shifting to pure annoyance and anger.
|You dare suggest we imprison a guest of THE Primeval Titan?|
The Ginnu Lifeform’s body pulsed with concentrated authority as he spoke a variation of The Phoneme of Darkness.
The terrifying power manifested instantly, not as mere absence of light but as the principle of mystery and hidden suffering given physical form.
Darkness wrapped around THE Maelstrom Thundermane’s Existence with crushing force, causing even his THE level body to pulse with sickly black and blue discoloration as the concept of pain unrevealed was inflicted upon every component of his being.
He screamed in agony as the Ginnu beat him thoroughly with linguistic authority, each strike reinforced by The First Tongue speaking suffering into reality.
Then, with casual contempt, THE Maelstrom Thundermane was thrown bodily into the prison cage.
The moment he crossed the threshold, the Logos of binding activated around him. Multiple Phonemes working in grammatical harmony to create inescapable confinement.
His Existence locked into place, unable to move, unable to escape, barely able to even process thoughts beyond the pain still radiating through him.
His eyes, filled with absolute hatred and impotent rage, could only stare across the distance toward the figure responsible for everything.
Toward the anomaly who stood free while he suffered imprisonment.
He roared internally with fury that had nowhere to go, trapped within linguistic bonds he could not break!
Oh!
—
Across Existence, entities continue to wish misfortune upon others, never learning the fundamental lesson that reality tends to teach.
THE Maelstrom Thundermane had spent those five minutes in Ginnungagap imagining the anomaly’s painful death in vivid detail, wishing for suffering and imprisonment and collapse.
And now he found himself suffering, imprisoned, on the verge of potential collapse.
The anomaly he had wished such fate upon stood free, honored, protected!
While he rotted in a cage formed from Existence’s own language.
Perhaps if he had spent those five minutes wishing for his own safe escape instead of another’s destruction, reality might have reflected that intention differently.
But such wisdom rarely comes before the lesson is learned the hard way.
And he would learn today!
