Chapter 5033: Everything is Paradoxical!
All of existence was paradoxical, and Erwin had understood this truth a long, long time ago.
Existence itself was the first paradox. To exist required differentiation from non-existence, yet non-existence could not truly be non-existent if it served as the contrast point for existence.
The moment you defined what existence was, you simultaneously defined what it was not, and that definition created the very thing you claimed did not exist. Existence required non-existence to have meaning, and non-existence required existence to be recognized. Neither could be without the other, yet both claimed to be the opposite of what the other represented.
Chaos was paradoxical in its very nature. It claimed to be disorder, yet disorder was itself a category, a classification, a type of order imposed upon what supposedly resisted ordering. True chaos could not be recognized as chaos because recognition required patterns, and patterns were the antithesis of what chaos claimed to represent.
The moment you pointed at something and called it chaotic, you had organized it into the category of disorganization. Chaos that could be identified had already failed to be chaotic.
Even THE First Tongue was paradoxical. Language existed to communicate meaning, yet meaning required shared understanding that predated the language attempting to create it. THE First Tongue claimed to be the origin of all linguistic authority, yet for it to function as language, there must have been something before it capable of understanding what language was.
The first word required a listener who already knew what words were. The foundation of all communication rested upon communication that should not have been possible before the foundation existed.
And in the end, even things like Infinity and THE Primordial Source were paradoxical weavings Erwin simply needed to incorporate and understand.
Infinity claimed to be endless, yet the concept of endlessness was itself a boundary, a definition, a limitation imposed upon what supposedly had no limits. To say something was infinite was to contain it within the category of infiniteness.
THE Primordial Source..well, he didnt know much about this. But both should be things that presented themselves as beyond paradox while embodying paradox in their very existence.
When Erwin fully grasped these contradictions, when he wove them into his Civilization until paradox became his native language rather than something he merely wielded, the peasant in rags would stand above all these weavings that did not know their own paradoxes.
They would bow before someone who understood what they truly were.
---
Erwin looked at his endless corrupted proto-matter melting before his eyes.
Multiple Axioms had been required to initiate and spread this infection across Observable Existence. Countless eons of careful cultivation had gone into seeding that paradoxical corruption to spread through Prima Indifferentia and beyond. He had built something magnificent, something that had threatened to reshape the very nature of contradiction itself.
And now endless rainfall and rivers of multicolored light were changing everything.
Endless rain dissolved his work wherever it touched, burning away corruption with authority that refused to acknowledge what he had accomplished. Eons of hard work and of progress washed away in moments. Regions he had claimed returned to configurations he did not control.
He observed this destruction from within an octahedron domain keeping the rainfall outside his immediate space. The geometric structure hung suspended in the void of Prima Indifferentia, its eight faces blazing with paradoxical authority that declared rain would not fall within its boundaries regardless of what the Miniature Cause demanded.
Inside this domain stood a massive structure resembling an observatory.
The building rose in configurations that suggested astronomical purpose, towers and domes arranged to observe phenomena most beings could not perceive. Its surfaces absorbed what little light existed within the octahedron, making it seem less like architecture and more like a wound in reality through which darkness leaked.
Erwin floated outside the observatory, watching the rain through the transparent faces of his domain while a certain Singular Cognizance had disappeared inside.
His Master’s words echoed through his memory. That supposed disappointment, that judgment of his associations, that declaration that his choices would be his downfall. Erwin shook his head slowly as he processed feelings he refused to let control him.
He didn’t particularly need to ally with anyone.
Civilizations were built to make advancement easier through cooperation, but easier did not mean necessary. If something arose against his interests, he also wasn’t averse to leaving those he was communicating with. They all had levels of use with each other, but neither side absolutely needed the other. He knew this. He understood this.
So Teacher did not have to be disappointed.
As soon as his Civilizational Anchor was completed, he would do what others were afraid of. He would integrate paradox so thoroughly into his existence that contradiction became his strength rather than his vulnerability. And then he would seek his Teacher again.
As he thought all of this grandly, a booming voice emerged from behind him.
"You cannot stop looking at the rain?"
The voice carried amusement that pressed against Erwin’s awareness without requiring him to turn around.
"It is an aftereffect of your biggest enemies, it seems. THE Creature and THE Youngest. They are all allying with each other while telling you they are disappointed in you for allying with others."
A massive form emerged from the obsidian observatory, floating through its walls as if solidity were optional for beings at its level.
"It is always those who consider themselves overly righteous and virtuous that are the greatest hypocrites."
The Singular Cognizance came to float beside Erwin, its form a vast singularity surrounded by spinning plates of golden authority that wrapped around its core.
Erwin did not look back at the entity now hovering beside him. His gaze remained fixed on the multicolored rain dissolving everything he had built beyond this protective domain.
"What are we waiting for, Moloch?"
The question emerged with calm that belied the frustration simmering beneath his surface.
The Singular Cognizance’s golden plates spun faster as it considered its response.
"Horus was tangled with THE Creature, that frightening thing, because he was too loud. Makes me realize THE Creature has really been playing with you this whole time."
Moloch’s voice held observation rather than accusation.
"How does that make you feel? Even I am not sure how long that monster has been at THE Proterozoic Scale. You are lucky he was experimenting with Adversity and left you alive for so long."
...!
Erwin’s expression remained calm as internally, he forced his anger to simmer down into embers rather than flames. He had no need for rage. Bygones were bygones. The past could not be changed, and raging against it accomplished nothing except wasting energy better spent on the future.
At times, he was lesser.
At times, he was greater.
At times, he was nothing at all.
That was okay.
Existence was not a sprint. Existence was a marathon, and existence was long. Far more powerful beings than him had already died while he was still here. Apex entities who had seemed untouchable had dissolved into memory while a peasant in rags continued walking forward. THE Creature had been playing with him? Fine. The game would continue, and games could be won by those who simply refused to stop playing.
In the end, Erwin simply and paradoxically had to be here.
Being here was enough. Being here was everything. Being here when others had ceased to be was the only victory that truly mattered.
