Chapter 2761: The Undying Skeleton

Chapter 2761: The Undying Skeleton

“How can I save you? Will an immortal medicine work?” Zu An thought of the Divine Dragon Immortal Medicine and the other legendary immortal medicines. The only thought on his mind was how he could save Yaoji.

“I’m a mountain peak now. What can an immortal medicine do to help?” It sounded as if the Goddess of Wu Mountain was smiling at him. “Ah Zu, don’t grieve for me. I’m already happy that you could make it here before my final moments.”

Zu An embraced her tightly as tears rained down his cheeks. “It’s all my fault. I should have found you earlier. Suyin has forgotten everything, and now you’re leaving me too...”

“Don’t blame her. I remembered because I morphed into a mountain peak, but it’s different for her. She might have consumed the immortal medicine and attained eternal life, but over time, her memories were bound to fade. It’s normal for her to forget about the history you shared and the feelings she had for you.”

“I never blamed her. I only blame myself.”

Zu An wanted to say more, but the Goddess Peak suddenly morphed into the appearance of the Goddess of Wu Mountain. She gently placed her hand on Zu An’s cheek and said, “Farewell, my love...”

Zu An was alarmed. He reached out to grab her, but he failed to grab anything. His lover dissipated into countless specks of starlight and vanished into thin air. His outstretched hand froze in midair. Despair crashed down on him.

Perhaps he'd accomplished much in his life, but what was the point if he couldn’t even save the women he loved? He might as well die.

As this thought surfaced, his body began to disintegrate. His flesh and blood broke down, but he no longer cared. There was no longer joy in life, so why should there be fear in death?

His mistake had caused Chang’e and the Goddess of Wu Mountain to wait for a long time. Chang’e no longer remembered him, and the Goddess of Wu Mountain had passed away.

I've kept her waiting alone for such a long time, so how can I let her leave alone?

He watched as his body broke down into a skeleton, but he only felt at ease.

So be it...

But to the spectating Isabella and Firework, they felt as if their world was on the verge of collapse. To them, Zu An had been walking along the chain when he suddenly trembled as if he had encountered something shocking. His body and flesh began to disintegrate, revealing his bones.

The plan had been for Zu An to use his unique cultivation skill to repair his body, but he stood motionless, as if he had given up on himself.

Isabella shouted in a panic, but no matter how she strained her throat, her voice didn’t seem to reach Zu An.

Firework went over to her side and spoke commandingly, “Hand his blood essence to me.”

“But...” Isabella hesitated. I promised big brother Zu to guard his blood essence with my life. Big sister Firework might not be an outsider, but...

Before she could finish her thought, Firework interrupted, “Do you still want to save him?!”

Isabella gritted her teeth. She could think of no other options, so she handed the blood essence over.

Firework took the blood essence and rushed down the chain, straight toward Zu An.

Sensing her entry, a furious wind blew toward Firework.

“Be careful!” Isabella shouted. Firework wasn't holding onto the Wind Quelling Pearl, and they had all witnessed what the bizarre wind was capable of.

Firework twisted her waist in a show of unbelievable flexibility, dodging the bizarre wind in the nick of time. But being on the chain, she was limited in where she could step. Her large movement resulted in a misstep, and she began plummeting into the rift valley.

“AH!” Isabella cried in horror.

But Firework’s foot hooked onto the chain, and using that as a point of leverage, she pulled herself back onto the chain.

Isabella didn’t have time to celebrate her turnaround as she shouted a warning, “Be careful, the wind is coming again!”

The earlier encounter appeared to have given Firework a better grasp of how the wind worked. Instead of making reckless movements, she waited for the wind to approach her before leaping up and twirling a few times in the air to dodge the wind.

Feeling provoked, several more gusts of wind swept up from the rift valley, threatening to tear her into pieces.

Isabella was initially worried, but her eyes soon gleamed with awe.

Firework moved with incredible lightness and flexibility, as if her body had no bones. Somehow, she managed to dodge every attack by the closest shave. Her movements were so graceful that it looked as if she were dancing.

Isabella was amazed. As expected of someone pursuing the dao of Beauty. Her movements are such a pleasure to look at.

By then, Firework had already reached Zu An’s side. She dripped the blood essence onto the forehead of his skeleton.

Zu An was embracing the Goddess Peak when he suddenly realized something. He had rushed to visit Wu Mountain after returning to the present, and the Goddess of Wu Mountain had left him with a message. She'd said that she often visited the Frost Palace to chat with Chang’e. If that was the case, how could Chang’e have forgotten about him?

No, this doesn’t make sense. How could a true promise disintegrate because of time? My relationship with Chang’e transcends time and generations, so how could she forget about me so easily?

This must have been the fear I was harboring in my heart. I was afraid that I’d lose the two of them over the passage of time.

Chang’e consumed the immortal medicine, so I wasn’t afraid of her death but of her forgetting. The Goddess of Wu Mountain didn’t take the immortal medicine, so I was afraid of her death.

I remember it now. I was crossing a chain on the rift valley. This must be an illusion conjured by the runes on the chain.

Feeling a warm tinge on his forehead, he hurriedly channeled the Primordial Origin Sutra to repair his collapsing body. Houtu had bestowed him with a droplet of Shaman blood back then. Shamans boasted tremendous life force, and they could heal their bodies with just a single droplet of blood essence. Thus, it didn’t take him long to make a full recovery.

It was only when he saw Firework that he realized she had saved him. “Thank you.”

He thought back about everything that had just happened and felt fear.

If I hadn’t left that droplet of blood essence behind, if Firework hadn’t risked danger to save me, and if I hadn’t written those words in the Time Annal, I might have been dead by now.

Qi Yaoguang’s prophecy of me turning into bones should have been referring to this.

The eight chains suddenly glowed with a reddish-orange light, and then transformed into whips that flailed at the two of them as if they had come to life.
