Chapter 2878: Threatening a Universal Deity

Chapter 2878: Threatening a Universal Deity

Hermes’s chanting grew louder and more impassioned.

The nearby withered trees turned green at a visible pace, as if spring had arrived. Flower buds emerged on the branches, and flowers began to blossom. It felt as if they were putting on their most beautiful form to welcome an exalted entity.

Yu Yanluo slowly rose into the sky. She had closed her eyes at some point, and the rough boulder beneath her transformed into a smooth white jade. Golden lights rippled at a steady tempo.

An ethereal fragrance wafted through the air. It didn’t come from the flowers but the ‘moon’, carrying the scent of ‘the first snow’.

Music hummed in the background. The stellar movements and the seasons had been manifested as music, and it sounded even more divine than what Zu An had previously heard in the Celestial Court.

A graceful humanoid figure imbued Yu Yanluo’s body. Her face seemed to flicker between multiple forms. Even when staring at her face, it was still a struggle to picture it in one’s mind. All that remained was the impression of perfection.

Her appearance differed according to the beauty standards of her beholders. Warriors saw the valiance in her tenderness. Poets noticed the serenity behind her passion...

The entirety of Kunming City was awestruck by her flawless beauty. Soldiers of the Annihilation faction, warriors who only knew destruction, swooned in her presence and fell to their knees. Even the ferocious beasts fighting in the wilderness began embracing each other.

Hermes was excited. He began walking over with arms opened wide while conveying his feelings of adoration, “O great Deity of Love and Beauty, I finally see you once more. I am your most devout worshiper and most passionate lover...”

Lilith, who had collapsed on the ground, severely wounded, suddenly felt ashamed of herself. She had always had a crush on Hermes, but the latter had never shown any interest in her. His mind had always been dominated by the legendary goddess.

And the reason for that was obvious now. She couldn’t even begin to compare to the Deity of Love and Beauty.

Her dao heart shattered. She felt nothing, even when she saw the lofty Hermes fawning on the Deity of Love and Beauty as the lowest simp. It felt as if everything she had done all these years was pathetic and laughable.

“Lover?” The Deity of Love and Beauty laughed softly—that was the most pleasant sound in the world. She raised her graceful finger and pointed it at Zu An. “My lover is him.”

Hermes’s expression stiffened. It was his turn to have his dao heart shattered. Fearing that ‘Chen Yuanyuan’s’ main body had tainted his perfect goddess, he hurriedly explained, “No, he’s just your previous vessel’s lover.”

You have successfully trolled Hermes for +444... +444... +444...

But Zu An couldn’t care that much. He glared at the flawless figure emanating a divine glow in the sky and said, “I don’t care who you are. Get out of Yanluo’s body right now!”

Before the Deity of Love and Beauty could react, Hermes screeched, “Audacious! How dare you disrespect the Deity of Love and Beauty!”

You have successfully trolled Hermes for +666... +666... +666...

He'd already had gripes with Zu An before. When he first saw Zu An and Yu Yanluo being lovey-dovey, he could still console himself that Yu Yanluo was merely a lookalike and not the Deity of Love and Beauty.

Little had he expected the Deity of Love and Beauty to still identify Zu An as her lover as well.

He felt as if his world had collapsed. Years of scheming, persistence, and hard work suddenly became a joke.

No, I’m not the wrong one! He quickly found a way for the situation to make sense. As long as I kill that hateful fellow, everything will go back to normal!

His handsome face warped in mania. Little wings sprouted from his shoes, and he took out a serpent staff. It pierced through Zu An’s body at a speed so fast that it completely defied common sense. It was as if he had traversed through space and dimension to launch the attack.

But Hermes felt no glee, as Zu An’s body slowly dissipated. What had been pierced was merely a silhouette.

Zu An reappeared elsewhere. He secretly wiped off his cold sweat. Hermes’s speed surpasses even my instantaneous movement. If I hadn’t employed the Annals of History in advance, that attack would have left me severely wounded.

“I can see why you’re a Memory envoy, but not even the River of History can overcome my speed!” Hermes spat through gritted teeth. His body moved once more.

But Zu An didn’t bother competing with his speed. Instead, he raised his hand.

All of a sudden, Hermes found himself imprisoned in space.

“Impossible!” Hermes was shocked. How could anything stop him when his speed transcended even space and dimensions? No, the spatial laws around us have been altered.

Zu An looked at Hermes solemnly. He had recently defeated many experts like Dissonant Melody and the Conqueror King and absorbed their energies, making him far stronger than before. With his deep understanding of spatial transformation laws, he could directly alter space to cripple Hermes' ability.

Hermes sneered, “Did you think I’d be helpless just because you trapped me in place?”

He raised his serpent staff, and its eyes lit up with a dreamy glow. He wielded the ability to lull others into a dream, and in the dream, he was a god!

Just then, a chilling bird cry echoed. Hundredwarble rushed at Hermes, causing the latter to temporarily lose his focus. This lapse in attention only lasted for an instant, as Hermes hurriedly snapped out of his daze to continue controlling his dreamscape.

But it was already too late. A seven-colored divine halo enveloped Hermes.

In the past, Zu An had undergone the Seven-Colored Divine Tribulation and forged a seven-colored divine halo. It allowed him to imprison anything in the world, but it had a severe limitation. As fast as light moved, there were entities in this world that moved faster than light.

The seven-colored divine halo should never have worked on an opponent capable of moving at absurd speeds like Hermes. But Zu An still managed to make it work by altering spatial laws to temporarily freeze Hermes’s movement.

Hermes was transported into the seven-colored space. By the time he broke free, he was already feeble, as if he had been siphoned of his strength. He was no longer capable of fighting.

Zu An was relieved.

Hermes lived up to his reputation as the Universal Conglomerate’s second-in-command—his strength didn’t pale in comparison to Dissonant Melody and the Conqueror King.

Zu An had only defeated Dissonant Melody and the Conqueror King because they underestimated him and let their guard down, but this time, it was an all-out fight with Hermes. Things could have easily gone awry.

Instead of celebrating his victory, Zu An hurriedly turned to the woman who radiated a divine glow and roared, “In the name of the Netherworld’s master, I command you to leave her body right away. Otherwise, I’ll vanquish your soul even if you used to be a universal deity!”

Translator Note:

At this point, I should mention that the author has slightly altered the first chapter of Keyboard Immortal.

I only noticed it myself a while back when Zu An found the term ‘Annihilation Progenitor’ oddly familiar, so I conducted a thorough search and realized that it was mentioned in none other than Chapter 1 of the entire series.

To sum it up, the story starts with an extremely powerful expert failing to defeat the Annihilation Progenitor, only managing to seal him off. Knowing that the Annihilation Progenitor will return stronger than ever, he prepares the Keyboard system and the Deity Slaying Sword before undergoing reincarnation, in hopes that he can defeat the Annihilation Progenitor. Meanwhile, his junior enters the Deity Slaying Sword.

That said, Zu An is still said to be from the modern-world Earth.

I don’t think I’ll change the current first chapter on Wuxiaworld, but I’ll probably translate it and post it when my hands are free.
