Chapter 2889: Altering History
Xihe stared at Zu An in shock. These were the most intimate aspects of her that no one else should have known about. Is he really my future lover?
She shuddered as soon as that thought popped up. “Impossible. I will become the wife of the Celestial Emperor, so how can I possibly have any ties with you? Are you insinuating that I will cheat in the future?”
Zu An’s head hurt. He had no idea how to explain the situation. “Our feelings developed naturally. It is nowhere as underhanded as you think.”
“Why don’t you tell me how we met and how we got together?” Xihe, as the Sun Goddess, naturally banished the cold with her warmth, but cold was slowly rising from the bottom of her heart at this very moment.
“I can’t elaborate on the details; it might affect the future.” Zu An shook his head. Besides, the two of them had met because of the Ten Suns Incident. There was no need to make Xihe worry about the future.
Xihe sneered, “You want me to believe you when you aren’t able to tell me any details at all?”
“Didn’t I just provide the evidence?” Zu An’s head hurt. He had no idea how else he could prove himself.
Xihe’s face reddened. “Who knows if you've secretly seen me bathing or found out through other means?”
“Is there anyone in the world who can peep on you bathing without you realizing it? Besides, your sensitive spots can’t be uncovered just by peeping on you,” Zu An huffed.
Xihe was speechless. That man’s words are annoying, but they make sense. But it’s impossible for him to be my future lover!
Zu An pondered a while more before divulging more of her little secrets. These were the things she had told him on her own accord in the future. By this point, Xihe had no choice but to take his words seriously.
“Are you really from the future?” Xihe was stunned. In truth, she didn’t want to marry Emperor Jun. Was that the reason she got together with this man in the future?
Zu An nodded.
“I didn’t expect space-time travel to be possible.” Xihe was intrigued. “What are you doing here? Why were you crying your eyes out in the Frost Palace?”
Zu An’s face reddened. “I didn’t cry!”
“Fine, fine, fine, you didn’t cry.” Xihe smirked. Despite being so strong, he has a surprisingly fragile heart.
“I came here to look for two friends, but I couldn’t find them,” Zu An said. Melancholy began creeping up his heart once more.
“Are they women?” Xihe glanced at him.
“Yes.”
“Hmph! You claim to be my future lover, but you came here not to look for me but other women?” Xihe gritted her teeth in anger. Did I really get together with such a fellow in the future?
You have successfully trolled Xihe for +233... +233... +233...
Zu An felt a little awkward. He told her the truth, “Our relationship was complicated. We were enemies yet allies at the same time—it’s hard to say that we were truly a couple. I’m really glad to be able to meet you like that.”
Xihe was silent. She understood the subtext of his words. It seems like we have quite the tense relationship.
“Who are you looking for? Is it related to the Frost Palace?” she asked with a stern face. “But no one has ever resided here.”
“I don’t think she’s in this world yet.” Zu An figured that the ancient Mermaid Queen was still at another point in spacetime at the moment, though it was also possible that she wasn’t born yet.
“That person became the master of the Frost Palace in the future?” Xihe was surprised. “Countless experts have tried to move into the Frost Palace but to no avail. Its divine marks have even killed quite a few experts. Since then, no one has dared to covet it anymore.”
Zu An had personally experienced the prowess of the Frost Palace’s divine marks. “Trust me, moving into the Frost Palace is nothing good. It's an eternal prison.”
Xihe’s expression changed subtly. Zu An’s words might be vague, but it revealed quite a few things. Luckily, I was never interested in the Frost Palace. “What about the other woman? Who is she?”
Zu An widened his eyes.
Gong Suyin might not be in this world now, but the Goddess of Wu Mountain could be here. Yaoji is the daughter of the Flame Emperor, so she might have been born not too much later than Xihe. It could be that she just hasn’t become the Goddess of Wu Mountain yet.
“Her name is Yaoji. She’s the Flame Emperor’s youngest daughter. Do you know her?” Zu An looked at Xihe with expectant eyes.
Xihe frowned. “The Flame Emperor?”
“What’s wrong?” Zu An sensed the hostility in her words.
“He’s our enemy!” Xihe spat coldly.
“Enemy?” Zu An was confused. “The Flame Emperor was the second Celestial Emperor, right? That should make him Emperor Jun’s elder. Why is he your enemy?”
“What elder?” Xihe spat. “He’s just an evil god from some foreign world. His succession is unorthodox!”
“Evil god?” Zu An blinked. Something feels off.
Xihe also noticed the peculiarity in Zu An’s response, so she asked, “You've never been in this era before, right? What happened in the history you know?”
Zu An pondered for a moment before replying, “My knowledge about the Celestial World is limited, but the first Celestial Emperor should have been the Azure Emperor.
“The Azure Emperor had two sons, Shennong and Xuanyuan. Shennong inherited the throne and became the second Celestial Emperor, and he became known as the Flame Emperor.
“Later, Xuanyuan defeated Shennong and took his place as the third Celestial Emperor.
“The fourth Celestial Emperor was the son of the Yellow Emperor, and was known as the White Emperor.
“The White Emperor then passed down his throne to his nephew, the Black Emperor Zhuanxu, who became the fifth Celestial Emperor.”
“The next one to take the throne after him was Emperor Jun."
Zu An pondered for a moment before asking, “Who is the current Celestial Emperor?”
“That’s an utter load of bull! There’s only one Celestial Emperor in the world—Emperor Jun!” Xihe was irritated. “All the talk about a Yellow Emperor and Flame Emperor are just nicknames that the barbarians came up with.”
Zu An was astounded. That doesn’t align with history. Did I not transmigrate into the Celestial Court world that I know about? But the woman in front of me is Xihe. Her looks, disposition, and even her subtle gestures are those of the Sun Goddess I know.
Xihe thought about another possibility and murmured, “Could it be that we fell into defeat, allowing them to alter history...”
Zu An, as a Time Scribe, knew that was very plausible. Emperor Jun could have concealed the true history and lauded himself as the only orthodox Celestial Emperor.
But that doesn’t make sense. Emperor Jun came up with an apocalypse formation in the end. If that history is fake, why would that Emperor Jun even exist in the first place?
Countless guesses surfaced in Zu An’s head. He said, “You’re Emperor Jun’s spouse. Where is he right now? Bring me to him.”
He hadn't been a match for Emperor Jun before, but things had changed now.
“What do you mean by spouse? We’re merely engaged!” Xihe was a little embarrassed. “I can’t bring you to him. I abandoned the wedding ceremony.”
Zu An was stunned.
