Chapter 2892: Saving Her

Chapter 2892: Saving Her

Xihe noticed the subtle change in his expression and asked, “What’s wrong?”

“It’s nothing,” Zu An replied with a forced smile. Let me first check out the situation.

“Tsk. Keeping secrets from me again.” Xihe was frustrated by his tendency to leave her hanging.

Using Rainbow Morph, it didn’t take long for the two of them to arrive at the seaside Purple Ganoderma Cliff. Looking at its oddly familiar environment left Zu An momentarily dazed.

“Let’s land first. Shennong is of considerable standing, and there are many people guarding him,” Xihe advised. If they strutted into the Firecloud Cave recklessly, they would risk a conflict.

“There’s no need for that.” Zu An shook his head. He grabbed Xihe and flashed right past the guards at the entrance.

Xihe was taken aback. This fellow is unfathomably powerful. I guess I have a good eye for people after all.

As the two of them made their way deeper into the Firecloud Cave, they couldn’t help but notice the grim faces around. There was an air of melancholy in the place. This perplexed them.

They had wanted to sneak into the Firecloud Cave, but the closer they got, the more people there were. It was as if everyone in this region was heading to it.

They pricked up their ears to eavesdrop on the conversations around them. Soon, they got a grasp of the situation, and Zu An’s face turned pale.

The people lamented the death of the Flame Emperor’s daughter in an accident, and they felt sorry for the Flame Emperor. It was not long ago that the Flame Emperor’s little daughter had drowned while playing in the sea, and now, even his second daughter had died prematurely as well. Tragedies just wouldn’t stop befalling the pitiful Flame Emperor.

Zu An felt the world shaking around him. Yaoji is dead?

Xihe hurriedly supported him and consoled him, “You need not be too upset. It might just be a misunderstanding. She must still be alive if you've met her in the future.”

Zu An felt like a drowning man grasping onto a straw of hope. Yes, I did reunite with Yaoji in the future.

Not daring to waste any time, he rushed right into the Firecloud Cave.

Some people noticed his anomalous movement and tried to stop him, but a flash of seven-colored light struck them with vertigo.

“Who dares to cause trouble in the Firecloud Cave?!” an authoritative voice roared. A brawny figure with a human body and two ox horns appeared in midair. He had a darkened face, a sign that he wasn’t in a good mood.

Xihe hurriedly informed Zu An, “He is Shennong.”

Had it been any other occasion, Zu An would have been excited and curious to meet the legendary ancestor of the human race. However, the earlier news had turned his body ice-cold, and he couldn’t even muster the courage to talk about Yaoji, fearing the answer he would hear.

Shennong noticed Xihe and asked, “Sun Goddess, shouldn’t you be marrying Emperor Jun now? Why are you causing trouble here?”

Xihe harrumphed. “Do you think I wanted to come? My friend has business with you. Call your daughter Yaoji out.”

Shennong’s face darkened. “You are indeed here to cause trouble!”

The others also cursed under their breath. You’re asking for Yaoji despite knowing she’s dead? How much more grievance do you want to cause the Flame Emperor?

Zu An nearly fainted upon hearing those words.

“Are you all right?” Xihe looked at him anxiously.

Zu An had weathered countless storms. He took a deep breath in an attempt to compose himself before asking shakily, “Is Yaoji really dead?”

Shennong finally looked at Zu An. That man appears to be close to Xihe. What’s his identity?

“Yes, Yaoji suddenly died a few days ago,” he replied with utmost grief.

“I wish to see her,” Zu An replied with the calmest voice he could muster. He wanted to confirm this matter.

Shennong frowned.

Xihe quickly interjected, “He is Yaoji’s friend. He wasn’t aware of her demise, which was why he reacted so strongly earlier. Please pardon him.”

She usually wouldn’t have spoken so politely to Shennong, but her heart ached when she saw how Zu An was trying his best to maintain his composure. She wanted to do something for him, and the last thing he would want was to get into a fight with Yaoji’s family.

Shennong’s astonishment deepened. I’ve never heard about Yaoji having such a friend.

But Xihe was of high stature. She had spoken sincerely to him, so it didn’t seem right to reject them coldly. So, Shennong said, “Since you’re Yaoji’s friend, follow me.”

He gestured for his subordinates to open a path with a wave of his hand before leading Zu An and Xihe into the Firecloud Cave.

Despite the name, the Firecloud Cave wasn't a cave but rather a blessed land. The area was extremely rich in ki, and it resembled a palace built on a mountain peak. Fiery-red clouds shrouded the area. That explained the name ‘Firecloud’.

But Zu An was in no mood to bother about these details. His eyes were fixed on the woman lying among the flowers. Despite her smaller stature and younger features, her appearance and disposition left no doubt that she was Yaoji.

Unable to hold himself back anymore, he lurched over and grabbed her hand. “Yaoji...”

He was still hoping for this to be a misunderstanding, but when he touched her and felt her lifeless body, all his hopes shattered.

Shennong’s face darkened. He was about to pull Zu An away when Xihe blocked him and asked, “How did Yaoji die?”

Shennong was taken aback by the sheer grief Zu An displayed. The latter seemed to be even more distraught than him. He replied, “Yaoji was born deficient; her body has always been weak and prone to illness. I have been looking for spirit medicine to nourish her body, but it was all to no avail. She eventually left my side a few days ago.”

“Deficient...” Zu An belatedly realized that the current Yaoji was much thinner than the Goddess of Wu Mountain he knew. Her face was pale, and her breasts were much smaller as well. Despite these differences, there was no question that she was Yaoji and not anyone else.

“Yaoji shouldn’t have died here. There must be a way to bring her back to life.” Zu An turned to Shennong. “I heard that you possess extraordinary medical skills. Do you know any way to save her?”

Shennong shook her head. “I have tried practically all spirit herbs in the world, but none was effective. The Queen Mother of the West does have a legendary immortal medicine that might work. I visited Kunlun Mountain a few days ago to request it, but she has already presented it to Emperor Jun.”

He glanced at Xihe before adding, “I am on bad terms with Emperor Jun. There’s no way he would give the immortal medicine to me.”

A thought surfaced in Zu An’s mind. “Leave the immortal medicine to me. Please protect Yaoji’s body in the meantime. Make sure no damage comes to it.”

“I am Shennong. This much is nothing to me,” Shennong replied with a frown. “The immortal medicine can grant not just my daughter, but anyone in the world, a new lease of life. There’s no way Emperor Jun will give us that.”

“Leave that to me. I have my ways,” Zu An said. He grabbed Xihe’s hand, and the two of them flashed out in a seven-colored light.

Along the way, Xihe said, “Don’t expect me to beg on your behalf. I've already gotten Emperor Jun’s bad side by escaping the marriage ceremony, but even if not for that, I doubt that he would give something that valuable to me.”

“Who says I’ll make you beg for it? I’ll march right into the Celestial Court and take it myself,” Zu An replied. A robe appeared around him as his appearance changed. He exuded a terrifying aura. “Return with me for our marriage.”

Xihe was stunned.
