Chapter 1028: Chapter 1028 Lunar Grave guild (1)
Despite its reputation as an assassin’s den, Amber Dawn was still a large city that nearly rivaled the Northern Sovereign’s in size. Thus, it took more than an hour for Shun Long and his entourage to traverse the distance and reach the southern city gates.
The five middle-aged men and women walked at a leisurely, unhurried pace, and yet with every step they took they somehow traversed hundreds of meters, leaving behind nothing but a series of afterimages.
This was even more apparent for Shun Long who was now clad in plain black robes as he led the group forward. Despite his cultivation base being merely at the rank 8 of the Dao King realm, his comprehension of his Dao had already reached the peak of rank 9 and was now affecting every move he took. Even a casual wave of his hand or a single glance he threw seemed to carry the power of his ’Dao of Time’, inadvertently influencing his surroundings with his every step.
Although he couldn’t be considered a pseudo-Dao Emperor just yet like Liu Mei and the rest, Shun Long knew that it was only a matter of time before his cultivation broke through to the early rank 9. By then, the barrier separating him from the peak of the Dao King realm would be nothing but an issue of gathering enough qi to form his last 9 qi balls.
After searching through the southern part of the city where the so-called ’slums’ were located, their group eventually stopped in front of what seemed to be an abandoned, narrow alley that not even ghosts would choose to visit.
There was nothing peculiar about this alley at first glance; There were a few old doors spread left and right, leading to some run-down homes or shops that seemed to be on the verge of collapse, but nothing that indicated this was where the headquarters of one of the most feared assassins’ guild in the entire continent were located.
And yet, Shun Long knew through Jiang Chen’s information that this was exactly the place they had to visit.
At the end of the alley, Shun Long soon spotted the irregularity they were looking for; An undamaged black door made from some kind of mysterious metal, standing proudly like a crane among chickens.
Normally, a single black door wouldn’t be so eye-catching, but in the slums of Amber Dawn and in an abandoned alley like this? It was painfully obvious that this door did not belong here!
After scanning his surroundings with his soul sense, Shun Long wasn’t surprised to see that he couldn’t sense anything past the metal door. Even with his spiritual strength that rivaled an early-stage Sovereign’s, penetrating through the formations of the black door was impossible.
Of course, this was only natural as well. If this was really the headquarters of one of the largest assassin guilds in the continent, even a Sovereign realm expert shouldn’t be able to break through their defenses so easily! Otherwise, the city lord of Amber Dawn would have already driven them out of the city a long time ago.
’’Brothe- cough, I mean teacher! Are you going to enter too? The four of us are more than enough to do this!’’ Bai Longtian ’corrected’ the way he addressed Shun Long mid-sentence as he stared at him with a look of unconcealed surprise.
The seven of them had already discussed their plan for the future, and Bai Longtian and the others had all agreed that this was indeed the best way to go about it;
Liu Mei and the rest were all going to ’join’ the assassins’ guilds while Fu Li and Lan Jinjing were going to work at Shun Long’s shop.
Even before leaving the Zhong clan’s headquarters to return to the Desolate East, Shun Long had already thought over this matter before making his decision. The 5 of them were all extremely famous- no, infamous Dao Kings, whose names and appearances had already spread throughout the continent, so they needed a place that could both shelter them and allow them to get stronger at the same time! Therefore, neither Bai Longtian, nor Liu Mei and the others had any issues with joining one of the assassin guilds if they were accepted.
However, Shun Long was supposed to stay in the shop and oversee everything, not get his hands dirty alongside them!
Liu Mei and the others all nodded, clearly reluctant to the idea of Shun Long joining any of the assassin guilds.
After all, it was one thing for them to show their faces in the central region, but Shun Long doing so was an entirely different matter altogether!
Putting aside the cultivators from the ’Immortal Dimension’ who had suddenly appeared in the continent and were causing trouble left and right looking for something, just the Tianxuan dynasty itself was an unstoppable behemoth that ruled a large part of the central region! And the prince of that very dynasty had already spread the word that Shun Long was carrying enough treasures on him to tempt even Earth Immortals!
Even with the disguises they all wore underneath their black robes, who was to say that there was no one who could see through it and make out their true appearance?
Perhaps Bai Longtian and the others weren’t as well known or not worth the trouble, but Shun Long was literally the most famous Dao King in the continent right now! The risk he would have to take simply wasn’t worth it!
To Bai Longtian’s and the others’ unwillingness however, Shun Long merely shook his head before he answered calmly
’’Even if I was willing to stay in the shop, I won’t be able to increase my cultivation if I remain cooped up for too long. I’ll be able to reach the peak of the Dao King realm but I’ll never break through to become a Dao Emperor. Regardless of how many pills I consume, I’ll end up reaching a bottleneck sooner or later!’’
After a brief moment of pause, Shun Long glanced at Liu Mei’s and the others’ worried faces before he continued
’’Still, I don’t plan on straying too far from Amber Dawn either. I still have to take care of the shop so I’ll spend most of my time there.’’
Silence quickly filled their surroundings, before Jiang Chen was the first to let out a resigned sigh.
The young- no, ’middle-aged’ man knew it was pointless to try and change his friend’s opinion if he had already decided on the matter, so this promise of his was enough assurance at the very least.
Indeed, if Shun Long wasn’t planning on straying too far from Amber Dawn, the risks of him getting exposed were largely minimized.
Besides, regardless of how famous he may be, Jiang Chen and the rest knew that Shun Long was also monstrously powerful. Even average early-stage Dao Emperors wouldn’t be able to pin him down unless they could catch him completely off-guard!
As for any peak-stage Dao Kings? Even Jiang Chen and the rest didn’t stand a chance if they fought him right now, let alone anyone else!
Nodding his head, Shun Long glanced at Liu Mei and the others who seemed to accept his explanation before his gaze gradually nestled on the black, metal door behind him. Stepping forward, he then knocked on it three times and waited.
After a full minute of silence, an aged voice finally came from behind the door, its tone tinged with curiosity
"...Are you here to place an order?"
