Chapter 3110: Start Of The Water Elemental Immortal Tribulation
Lin Mu slowly stood and left his residence.
The city was already aware, but people still looked up as he soared into the skies, robes fluttering against the high winds that began to gather unnaturally. Clouds swirled at a frightening pace, converging as though the heavens had been waiting for this signal.
Lin Mu rose higher and higher, stopping when he reached the boundary of the protective arrays. Beneath him, glowing lines and runes shimmered as the Smoldering Rock Merchant Union’s formation pulsed alive, forming a barrier that encased the area.
Zhai himself appeared below, bowing deeply, his voice booming through a transmission. "Senior Lin, everything is prepared. May the heavens favor your path."
Lin Mu gave him a short nod. "I thank you. But I do not need favor. Only the storm."
He then sat cross-legged in the air, eyes closing as he fully released the suppression on his cultivation. His Dantian flared, immortal qi pouring out like a beacon.
The sky answered immediately.
A crack like the splitting of the world itself rang out, and from the boiling mass of clouds, the first tendrils of deep, blue-black energy spread.
They slithered through the sky like serpents, charged with immense water essence. The clouds were no longer just clouds—they had become an ocean, inverted above the world, ready to collapse and drown everything beneath it.
The Water Elemental Immortal Tribulation had begun.
RUMBLE
The vast ocean of clouds rumbled with an intensity that made the skies tremble.
What had once been a faint gathering of tribulation clouds now resembled the boundless surface of a roaring sea. The horizon itself had been swallowed by surging blue-gray clouds that swelled and rolled like waves, their edges foaming with arcs of water elemental qi shaped like blue serpents.
Everyone who looked up felt a suffocating weight press down on their chests, as if the very heavens were forcing them to bow.
Gasps and exclamations spread through the city.
"This... this is impossible! How can a tribulation cover so much sky?"
"It is as if the heavens are trying to drown the world..."
"This is like an apocalyptic flood of the legends!"
Some cultivators fell silent, their complexions pale as they instinctively stepped back. Even if the tribulation was not meant for them, the sheer presence of it threatened to shatter their courage.
A few elders and seasoned immortals managed to compose themselves, their gazes sharpening as they attuned their senses. At once, they felt the heavy, undeniable resonance within the storm.
"Water Dao traces... this is a Water Elemental Immortal Tribulation," one elder muttered. His voice quivered despite his effort to stay calm.
The revelation only deepened the awe around him.
For most immortals, tribulation clouds extended no more than a few kilometers.
Ten kilometers was already considered extraordinary, the mark of someone blessed with outstanding talent. But here... the ocean-like storm stretched over a hundred kilometers in every direction, swallowing the heavens above Ash Crown City and beyond.
Those who witnessed it could only shudder.
In the Xian Sword Sect’s assigned guest residence, Grand Elder Huo stood at the balcony, his hands folded behind his back. His aged eye, which had seen millenniums of cultivators undergo tribulations, shone with a rare light.
"Remarkable," he whispered, the faintest tremor in his voice betraying his excitement.
Daoist Chu, standing beside him, had abandoned the mountain of scrolls and reports piled on the desk inside. Like the other elders gathered around, his gaze was fixed firmly on the sky.
"We knew he would undergo a tribulation," Daoist Chu said gravely, "but to think it would be on this scale... even with my years in the Zenith Dao Sect and the Immortal Court, I have never seen such a thing."
Another elder frowned, his eyes narrowing. "It cannot be a common Water Elemental Tribulation. Its sheer scale... there must be a variation."
Grand Elder Huo nodded.
His tone carried both certainty and caution. "Indeed. What you see is not a simple elemental trial. This is a variant water tribulation, one unique to him. The exact form will only reveal itself when the storm unleashes its first strike."
They could only wait.
Below, in the city, countless mortals and low-ranked cultivators had already ceased their work, staring wide-eyed at the heavens. The protective arrays had been activated long ago, shimmering faintly like a translucent dome across the skyline. Yet, even with the arrays restraining the storm, the pressure alone made them tremble.
Children cried, merchants closed their stalls, and guards stationed on the walls stood rigid, their knuckles white as they gripped their weapons.
Then it began.
The ocean above churned with deafening force, each roll of the clouds echoing like the roar of countless tidal waves. The pressure spiked, and the entire city seemed to hold its breath.
With a thunderous boom, the clouds split. A colossal wave of cloud-water surged into existence, its crest towering like a mountain. The wave arched, glistening with lightning, before it collapsed with unrelenting force.
The first tsunami had begun.
Lin Mu stood at its epicenter, high in the sky, his figure a solitary mark against the vast storm. The wave crashed toward him, its body containing power capable of annihilating entire mountains.
The very air howled as the tsunami descended. Winds ripped through the lower skies, uprooting trees on the plains far outside the city. Roofs rattled, shutters slammed, and cultivators with weaker foundations were blown off their feet.
"Take cover!" guards shouted. But even as panic threatened to spread, realization struck.
"This... this is already restrained by the arrays?"
The city lord, who stood on one of the towers with his captains, clenched his jaw. "Yes. What you feel now is but a fraction of the storm’s true force. Were it not for the protective formation, the land for hundreds of kilometers would have been drowned by this single strike."
His words silenced the men around him. Stunned, they stared again at the solitary figure above, the one at the center of it all.
Lin Mu.
The tsunamis of heaven itself had chosen him as their opponent.
And this was only the beginning.
