Chapter 3418: Settling In The Great Fist City
Meng Bai looked around with wide eyes. "This place is... far more intense than I expected."
Cattaleya grinned. "This is paradise."
Patriarch Wang nodded. "But for the Great Tournament, everything has changed. The usual dueling rings have been repurposed as warm up grounds. The plazas have been converted into bustling markets. Several stadiums are designated for the tournament of those below the immortal realm.
Even the giant fist you see is part of it. That place is the real battleground where the tournament will happen. You might not see much from down here, but there’s five rings made on each of the knuckles. That’s where the real fights will be happening."
But while others were intrigued by the giant fist, Meng Bai was concerned about something else. "Below the immortal realm?"
"Yes," Patriarch Wang said. "The sect never neglects its juniors. Even if the immortal realm cultivators are the main attraction, the youth are the future of the Eastern Immortal Court. They deserve a stage too."
Meng Bai opened his mouth to ask more, but Cattaleya leaned in and spoke before he could.
"He is joining it."
Meng Bai nearly choked. "Wait... when did I agree to that?"
Cattaleya gave him a pat on the back. "I signed you up when you were eating soup in the Dongxu Clan’s dining hall."
Lin Mu hid a smile behind his hand.
Patriarch Wang chuckled. "It is quite normal. Our clan is sending two groups as well. The immortals and the juniors. Ning will be in the Junior bracket, and Meng Bai will join them. He will have good sparring partners."
Meng Bai could not tell if that was comforting or terrifying.
The caravan moved deeper into the city, showing more of its unique scenery. Martial monuments dotted the streets, statues of legendary body cultivators in different stances. The people walking around all possessed firm steps, straight backs, and confident eyes. Even those below the immortal realm radiated a kind of raw fighting spirit.
Cattaleya’s eyes sparkled with admiration.
Lin Mu felt oddly at ease. The heavily concentrated martial intent reminded him of the Xian Sword sect, but unlike that sect of sword intent, this place was alive with pure vigor.
Soon the Dongxu Clan’s reserved lodging area came into view. It was a sprawling courtyard complex nearly the size of a mid tier clan estate. Tall walls surrounded dozens of pavilions, training yards, meditation rooms, and gardens.
The guards opened the large jade gates upon recognizing the Dongxu entourage.
Inside, the clan members quickly split up, assigning rooms and sub courtyards. One entire section had been set aside solely for Lin Mu’s group. The buildings had interior barriers, isolated gardens, and even temperature regulated cultivation chambers.
Daoist Chu whistled softly. "At least we do not have to worry about paying for meals or lodging here. They are saving us a fortune."
Cattaleya openly said, "I would still like a sixty round feast someday."
Lin Mu gave her a blank look. "Let us not scare the Dongxu Clan into bankruptcy."
Elyon had already left the moment they placed their bags down. Daoist Chu rubbed his chin.
"He is heading to the betting halls."
Cattaleya agreed. "He is absolutely checking the odds."
Lin Mu nodded. Elyon had become quite invested in betting ever since Cattaleya’s streak of victories had earned him a small mountain of immortal stones. And this time he intended to bet not on Cattaleya but on Lin Mu.
Daoist Chu had asked him earlier why he believed Lin Mu would win, and Elyon’s response had been simple.
"He is Lin Mu."
However, there was a complication. Lin Mu had informed them he would only use his body cultivation in the upcoming tournament. No qi skills, no Dao skills, no spatial abilities, no talismans, and no weapons.
He wished to temper his body alone.
Daoist Chu had said, "You might lose because of that."
Lin Mu had shrugged. "That is fine. A challenge is necessary."
Cattaleya had scoffed. "Lose? You?" and had waved the idea away.
Meng Bai worried quietly, but he also believed in his master’s monstrous strength.
Once they settled in, everyone dispersed to handle their own preparations.
Cattaleya left first, eager to scout the area and see what kind of competitors were around. If she found any strong body cultivators she would absolutely drag them into sparring.
Elyon slipped away with unmatched stealth. If anyone saw him, they would just see a wolfkin headed toward new gossip.
Daoist Chu sighed, rubbed his temples as if still haunted by memories of matchmaking, and went to meditate in one of the inner gardens.
The twins leaped out of Lin Mu’s sleeves and ran in circles around Little Shrubby, who told them they would be exploring the city at night.
Meng Bai stayed behind with Lin Mu for a moment.
"Master... do you think I will perform well?"
Lin Mu placed a hand on his shoulder. "You have grown greatly. Treat it as a learning experience. Strength is built in steps. Failure is acceptable."
Meng Bai nodded and finally left to meet Dongxu Ning for the spars she had requested. They had not sparred back at the Dongxu clan since Meng Bai was busy studying formations, but now they had the perfect chance for it.
Plus many of the other members of the clan wanted to spar with him too and had been pestering him. And this time around, there was no way he could say no to them.
Lin Mu remained alone for a moment, his eyes trailing across the massive courtyard complex. He could feel powerful auras scattered throughout the city, likely elites, clan geniuses, visiting sect disciples, and hidden experts waiting for the tournament.
The anticipation in the air was thick.
A century of preparation. A stage that could change destinies. A gathering of prodigies, monsters, and hidden dragons.
Lin Mu’s lips curled slightly.
"This tournament... might be interesting."
The distant roar of the Great Fist City echoed faintly, as if agreeing with him.
