Chapter 3578: Logic Is Out The Window
Lin Mu almost said something in response.
If the two spirits knew the violent internal battle he had fought against those bloodline remnants, they might not have sounded so confident about that explanation.
But he kept that thought to himself.
The Vermilion Bird continued calmly, "Whether you believe you deserve a reward or not is irrelevant. Our judgment is already made."
The Azure Dragon added, "Therefore we insist."
Lin Mu stood there for a moment, clearly uncertain about what to say next.
It was only then that the two small snakes nudged him.
Xiao Yin slithered closer and lightly tapped his leg with her tail. Xiao Yang leaned in from the other side.
"Master," Xiao Yin whispered quietly, "these old grandpa and grandma seem nice."
Xiao Yang nodded in agreement. "And they are offering gifts."
The twins had a very simple philosophy regarding such situations.
When powerful elders offered treasures, one usually accepted them.
Lin Mu sighed quietly.
Before he could respond, however, something else happened.
For the first time since the spirits had awakened, the two Guardian Beasts properly looked at the twin snakes.
Earlier they had noticed them, but only briefly. Compared to the shocking revelations surrounding Lin Mu, two small snake spirits had seemed insignificant.
But now that their attention settled on the twins...
Both spirits froze.
Their senses sharpened instantly.
The Vermilion Bird’s flaming wings stilled.
The Azure Dragon’s eyes narrowed.
They carefully examined the two small serpents.
Their appearance seemed ordinary enough. Two young snakes, one white and one black, their scales smooth and gleaming faintly under the temple light.
Yet the moment the two spirits examined their bloodline aura...
A strange feeling rose from deep within their instincts.
It was not merely respect.
It was not even simple awe.
It was something closer to ancestral terror.
For a brief moment, both spirits felt as if they were not looking at two juvenile snakes at all.
It felt as if they were standing before the distant shadows of beings that existed far above their own lineage.
Ancestors.
The word surfaced instinctively in their minds.
The Azure Dragon’s mental voice trembled slightly. ’Do you feel that?’
The Vermilion Bird responded immediately. ’Yes.’
’Their bloodline...’
’What are those things?’
The more they examined the twins, the stronger that instinctive pressure became. It was not overwhelming, but it carried an ancient authority that felt disturbingly familiar.
Suddenly a terrifying thought formed in their minds.
Perhaps these two serpents were not simply Lin Mu’s companions.
Perhaps they had been placed here deliberately.
The Azure Dragon’s mind raced.
’Could it be...’
The Vermilion Bird finished the thought.
’The Void Weaver Spider.’
They both looked at the twins again.
The two small snakes were currently whispering to Lin Mu about accepting gifts like normal children discussing sweets.
Yet the bloodline pressure coming from them was undeniable.
The Vermilion Bird spoke mentally, her tone suddenly grim.
’He placed them here.’
’To watch us.’
The Azure Dragon nodded slowly.
’It must be a warning.’
Their logic had quietly abandoned rational territory.
But at this point neither spirit was willing to take chances.
If the Void Weaver Spider had truly placed those creatures beside Lin Mu as guardians or observers, then the message was clear.
They needed to behave properly.
Very properly.
Meanwhile Lin Mu had no idea what mental storm was happening above his head.
He simply sighed and finally nodded. "Very well," he said calmly. "If the honored guardians insist, I will accept your gifts. But I truly do not require anything extravagant."
The Vermilion Bird spoke gently. "Due to our early awakening outside the tournament cycle, we cannot grant the highest tier of blessings. Such actions would disturb the temple’s energy balance."
The Azure Dragon added, "However, we still possess knowledge of tens of thousands of cultivation techniques and great arts. Additionally, the temple’s treasury holds many valuable resources."
Lin Mu considered this for a moment.
Techniques were not something he lacked. Between his own experiences, the teachings of his master, and the numerous inheritances he had encountered, his arsenal of techniques was already vast.
What he lacked instead were materials.
Materials rich in elemental energy that could nourish the remaining cores he planned to nurture.
After a brief moment of thought, Lin Mu spoke.
"In that case, I would prefer materials rich in elemental energies. Specifically those aligned with Fire, Earth, Lightning, Wind, Wood, and Metal."
The two Guardian Spirits nodded.
Then both of them slowly turned their heads toward Temple Head Puyi.
"Temple Head," the Azure Dragon said calmly.
"Retrieve the requested materials."
Puyi immediately bowed. "Yes, honored guardians."
But then he hesitated slightly.
"...Which materials should I bring?"
The two spirits glanced at one another.
Then they whispered quietly through their spiritual connection.
’Bring all of them.’
Temple Head Puyi heard the instruction through the temple array.
His entire body froze.
For a moment he nearly lost his balance.
If Lin Mu had not been standing nearby, the old foxkin might truly have fallen flat onto his back.
Temple Head Puyi steadied himself after the whisper from the two Guardian Spirits reached him through the temple array. The instruction had been simple, yet to him it felt like someone had just told him to open the treasury of heaven itself.
"Bring all of them." The words still echoed in his mind as he forced his trembling hands to move.
For a brief moment he wondered whether he had misheard the command. Perhaps they meant several materials, or perhaps only the most suitable elemental treasures. But no, the instruction had been clear.
’All of them.’
The old foxkin swallowed nervously, knowing there was no room for hesitation when the guardians themselves had spoken.
Slowly, he extended both hands toward the central formation circle engraved into the temple floor. As the temple head, he possessed the authority to control the inner treasury arrays of the Guardian Beast Temple.
His fingers formed a sequence of ancient hand seals while his immortal sense connected to the enormous network of formations buried deep beneath the sacred complex. The temple array responded instantly.
