Chapter 3743: Painful Transformation
Lin Mu stood over one hundred and eighty centimeters before.
Yet now... He towered.
His head nearly touched the upper decorations of the room. His limbs had lengthened. His frame stretched upward and he now stood nearly two and a half meters tall.
Lin Mu blinked.
Then looked down.
The result was absurd.
Because only the bones had changed. His body remained mostly the same as such the proportions looked wrong. He resembled a giant who had forgotten to eat.
Long limbs.
Narrow shoulders.
A tall frame carrying normal musculature.
Lin Mo immediately collapsed laughing.
"Tall Skinny Mu!"
Xukong chuckled.
"You look like a bamboo spear."
Lin Mu ignored them and continued observing.
Despite appearances, it worked. The change was real. It was permanent until reversed and most of all, there were no energy fluctuations, and no illusions were used for this. This body would fool anyone.
That alone made the suffering worthwhile.
Still... The disadvantages were obvious.
It took too long.
’A week for this much change.’ Lin Mu analyzed. ’That would never work during infiltration.’
He needed speed.
Lin Mu’s thoughts shifted toward his Wood Core.
Ninety five percent.
Closest to completion.
The liver affected growth, storage of energy and its transformation. Everything he had done so far involved it whether it be hair, fat, muscles, nutrients or bone growth. The liver touched all of them.
"If the Wood Core completes..." Lin Mu muttered.
He looked toward the resources Lady Kang had given him.
Several storage treasures appeared.
He had asked her before to gather elemental resources.
Originally they were meant for all cores.
Now only three remained relevant.
Wood.
Wind.
Lightning.
Lin Mu took them all out.
The room filled instantly.
Branches.
Crystals.
Immortal woods.
Lightning ores.
Wind crystals.
Ancient bark.
Countless resources appeared.
He activated the Omnicore Ascendancy Technique as the materials dissolved and elemental energy flooded inward.
Days passed while the resources diminished rapidly.
Lin Mu watched the cores.
Wood core grew slowly, painfully slowly and eventually it stopped.
’Ninety seven percent... Only two percent growth.’ Lin Mu opened his eyes and sighed.
He had expected more.
The Wind Core performed better.
Fifty five percent.
The Lightning Core surprised him most.
Eleven percent.
’A four percent increase.’ Lin Mu raised his brows.
Yet his attention remained on the Wood Core.
’Ninety seven.’ Lin Mu muttered inwardly. ’Still incomplete.’
The last few percentages truly were difficult. Every completed core had demanded immense effort near the end.
He calmed himself.
"This is already enough."
Lin Mu resumed experiments.
This time he intentionally accelerated the skeletal changes. The effect was immediate as growth doubled. The bones changed faster but then the pain arrived.
Lin Mu’s body trembled, his breathing destabilized and finally his focus shattered.
The process halted automatically as Lin Mu opened his eyes.
Sweat covered him.
Seeing this Xukong shook his head.
"Too fast."
Lin Mu nodded.
The issue was not capability.
It was endurance.
Even if he forced through the pain... The pain itself destroyed concentration. Meaning acceleration became pointless.
Lin Mu sat quietly afterward and the room fell silent. His mind drifted back toward the Heavenly Stream Guardian Sect.
He pictured it.
A world sized sect.
Ancient experts.
Restricted areas.
Unknown enemies.
Hidden vault.
Third ring.
He would need preparation.
Real preparation.
A disguise could work and this path had potential, but he could not improvise it. He would need a complete identity.
Body.
Face.
Voice.
Behavior.
History.
Everything.
And it had to be prepared beforehand. Because changing rapidly inside the sect remained impossible. He looked at his tall reflection again. Then slowly returned himself to normal.
Bones shifted back, height reduced and the pain returned briefly. Eventually the familiar figure appeared again.
Lin Mu exhaled and he finally understood.
The infiltration path existed, he had found it. But it still required refinement.
More importantly... He needed the Wood Core.
The closer he got to completion, the more obvious it became. The Wood Core would likely become the foundation for bodily transformation. He just lacked the final three percent. Lin Mu stood and stored the remaining resources.
His gaze turned toward the distance.
Lady Kang had already found the sect.
The path ahead was clear now. He still had time. And time was something he intended to use fully.
In his mind Lin Mo suddenly spoke.
"You know..."
Lin Mu already regretted listening.
"What?"
"You should make the disguise tall too."
Lin Mu narrowed his eyes.
"Why?"
Lin Mo grinned.
"Because if you become Fatty Mu again..."
He pointed upward.
"...at least you’ll look proportional."
Xukong burst out laughing again.
Lin Mu activated the Severing Heart Sutra once more. And once he was better he thought about all that he had done so far.
The experiments had gone further than he expected.
At first he had merely wanted to understand the effects of the completed cores. Then it had turned into body modification experiments. Now he had a path that could potentially fool even transcendents.
He looked inward once more and organized everything he had learned.
The changes were separate and distinct.
Each had its own principles.
His fingers tapped lightly against the table.
"Blood Tinting." Lin Mu spoke first.
This was the simplest among them.
It governed complexion and coloration.
Healthy skin.
Pale skin.
Aged appearance.
Ruddy tone.
Even deeper changes could likely be achieved later.
The name fit perfectly.
His thoughts shifted.
"Skin Sculpting."
This one carried more complexity.
Texture.
Elasticity.
Moisture.
Surface condition.
Even fat deposition.
He had already proven that the body could shift between supple and aged states and had accidentally discovered Fatty Mu because of it. Lin Mu decided to pretend that never happened.
The next aspect followed.
"Flesh Molding."
Muscle distribution.
Growth.
Reduction.
Proportions.
Shape.
The oversized arm experiment still lingered unpleasantly in memory.
Lin Mo immediately appeared.
"One Arm Immortal."
Lin Mu ignored him.
Finally came the hardest.
"Bone Shifting."
This governed structure itself.
Height.
Face.
Frame.
The most painful and the most difficult.
But perhaps the most valuable.
