Chapter 3759: Arriving At The Village
The stories behind Little Bull sounded exaggerated.
Yet every witness described similar events and that consistency made them difficult to dismiss.
"The villagers never thought something was strange?" Lin Mu asked.
"They did." Ashy laughed. "But after a while they just got used to it."
Lin Mu could actually understand that.
People adapted surprisingly quickly.
If someone demonstrated impossible strength every day for years, eventually it simply became normal.
"He cultivated?" Lin Mu asked.
"No."
Ashy shook her head immediately.
"Many people tried teaching him."
Lin Mu listened carefully.
Apparently several wandering cultivators had visited the village over the years. Some noticed Little Bull’s physical gifts and attempted to guide him onto the cultivation path while others hoped to recruit him.
A few even wanted to accept him as a disciple.
But every attempt failed as Little Bull simply could not cultivate... Or perhaps would not cultivate.
The accounts varied.
Some claimed he lacked talent. Others insisted he was too simple minded to understand cultivation techniques. One teacher reportedly spent nearly three years trying to help him gather spirit qi.
The result amounted to nothing.
Despite that failure, his strength continued increasing naturally.
That fact interested Lin Mu more than anything else.
Strength without cultivation.
Growth without techniques.
Such things usually pointed toward either a bloodline or a special physique.
Possibly both.
As they continued traveling, Ashy shared additional details.
Despite his unusual nature, Little Bull was extremely popular within the village. He worked harder than anyone and he helped everyone.
If an elderly villager needed assistance carrying supplies, he would appear. If a field required plowing, he would volunteer. If dangerous beasts threatened nearby settlements, he would hunt them.
Many people viewed him almost as a guardian.
"He sounds like a good person," Lin Mu remarked.
"He is."
Ashy nodded.
"Everyone says so."
That only made his disappearance stranger.
Someone like that would normally remain surrounded by people. Yet he had vanished completely and without explanation.
Lin Mu finally asked the question that had been lingering in his mind.
"What happened exactly?"
Ashy’s expression became more serious.
"The Broken Gate Ravine."
The name immediately caught Lin Mu’s attention.
Ashy explained that the ravine was feared throughout the region. And while most villagers refused to even approach it, Little Bull was one of the few exceptions.
Rare medicinal herbs grew near its edges and he often gathered them for villagers who were sick or injured.
One month earlier he had gone there as usual but he never returned. Search parties eventually formed and dozens of villagers participated. Some cultivators helped as well. Yet no traces were found.
The search ended after several weeks but most people eventually accepted that Little Bull had died.
Lin Mu listened quietly before taking out a map purchased earlier in One River City.
His immortal sense swept across the parchment.
Various settlements appeared.
Roads.
Forests.
Mountain ranges.
Rivers.
Then he found it.
Broken Gate Ravine.
The location lay roughly eighty kilometers from Honey God Village.
Lin Mu studied the symbol carefully.
Even the mapmaker had marked it as dangerous. Several warning characters surrounded the area. According to the notes, the ravine descended to unknown depths. No confirmed records existed regarding its true bottom.
And people who entered rarely returned.
Local legends surrounded the place.
Some spoke of ancient beasts dwelling below. Others claimed it connected to underground worlds. There were even stories about hidden inheritances. Lin Mu naturally ignored most of those rumors.
Every dangerous location somehow accumulated tales of hidden treasures.
Still, the ravine itself was undeniably suspicious.
A young man with mysterious origins and impossible strength disappeared there.
That alone warranted investigation.
The group continued forward.
As the sun gradually descended toward the horizon, the distant outline of Honey God Village finally appeared on the horizon. Fields stretched outward from the settlement and beehives could be seen scattered among orchards while smoke rose from chimneys.
The village looked peaceful and ordinary.
Exactly the kind of place where nothing extraordinary should happen. Yet somewhere within that humble settlement lay the mystery of Little Bull. And perhaps the identity Lin Mu had been searching for all along.
Lin Mu entered Honey God Village just as the last traces of sunlight were fading beyond the horizon.
Warm golden light spilled from windows throughout the settlement while the scent of food drifted through the evening air. Despite being a relatively small village, the place was lively. Farmers had returned from the fields, beekeepers had finished tending to their hives, and families were gathering together for dinner.
The village carried a simple atmosphere that felt very different from the cities Lin Mu had grown accustomed to visiting.
There were no grand immortal pavilions. No powerful cultivators soaring overhead. No merchants trying to sell treasures worth thousands of immortal stones. Instead there were ordinary people talking about ordinary concerns.
Children ran through the streets chasing each other. Farmers discussed weather and crops. Elderly villagers sat outside their homes sharing stories.
For a brief moment, Lin Mu found himself reminded of his hometown from long ago. Back then life had seemed much simpler.
He shook the thought away and focused on his task.
The village was not large, making it easy for him to locate the busiest tavern in the area. The building sat near the center of the settlement and was filled with people despite the late hour. Lin Mu entered quietly and took a seat near the corner.
He ordered food and drink before allowing his immortal sense to remain passive.
Thankfully, there was no need to actively investigate. The villagers themselves soon provided all the information he wanted. Almost every table was discussing the same topic: Little Bull.
The young man seemed to have become the village’s favorite subject since his disappearance.
One group of elderly farmers spoke about how much harder harvesting had become without him.
"I tell you, the fields take twice as long now," one old man complained. "That boy used to finish half my work before I even woke up."
Another villager nodded.
"He fixed my roof every year too."
"Mine as well."
A younger farmer sighed.
"I still don’t believe he’s dead."
Several people immediately agreed.
At another table, a group of hunters discussed organizing another search party.
"We should go back," one insisted while slamming his cup onto the table. "The boy helped everyone. We can’t just abandon him."
His companion immediately shook his head.
"Go back where?"
"The ravine."
Several people visibly stiffened.
The atmosphere became noticeably heavier.
"No."
"Absolutely not."
"Have you forgotten what happened to Old Shan?"
The hunters immediately fell silent.
Lin Mu quietly listened.
Apparently Old Shan had ventured into the Broken Gate Ravine nearly thirty years ago. He had never returned.
Many similar stories followed:
Several hunters, A few wandering cultivators,One merchant, Two treasure seekers.
Everyone who went too deep into the ravine either disappeared or returned terrified. Even after all these years nobody truly understood the place. The uncertainty frightened people more than any known danger.
