Chapter 3817: Drunken Snacks

"They probably sealed the entire region after that ancient emperor died. No one entered for countless years. Eventually the curse weakened enough that the dangerous effects disappeared." Lin Mu spoke.

His gaze drifted toward the warning sign standing far away. "Once they confirmed it had become safe, they likely removed most of the barriers while still keeping it classified as a forbidden zone."

Xukong agreed. "That is the most reasonable explanation. Even if the surface became harmless, no one could guarantee what remained underground. Very few cultivators possess the means to descend seven kilometers beneath solid rock."

Lin Mu smiled faintly. "Especially without disturbing everything above."

Phase truly had proven invaluable once again. Without it, excavating such a depth would have required tremendous effort while drawing attention from half the sect.

He looked once more toward the area from which he had extracted every crystal. "So they never even knew these existed."

"Most likely."

Lin Mu let out a small sigh. "I was honestly hoping this would be one of the vaults or The Vault."

The disappointment lingered only briefly. He had long understood that locating something hidden by the Heavenly Stream Guardian Sect would never be easy. One minor forbidden zone failing to produce results meant very little.

His attention shifted toward the twins seeing that they were happily chewing another small fragment together.

The sound echoed surprisingly loudly through the silent wasteland.

The corners of Lin Mu’s lips rose. "At least someone benefited from this trip."

The twins looked immensely satisfied. Their little eyes had nearly closed while they slowly enjoyed every bite.

Little Shrubby also watched curiously from nearby. "They really like it."

"They do."

Still, another thought entered Lin Mu’s mind. He turned toward the ring. "Senior..."

"Hm?"

"There won’t be any problems from them eating this, right?" He honestly felt a little worried now.

After all, regardless of how purified it had become, this was still condensed cursed Qi.

Xukong remained silent for several moments before replying. "Considering their constitution and bloodline, they should experience no harmful effects."

Lin Mu relaxed slightly.

Lin Mu immediately turned toward her. Xiao Yin’s pupils seemed slightly unfocused. She continued swaying happily while making soft hissing noises.

Then she looked toward Lin Mu. "Master..."

"Hiss..."

"You’re shiny."

Lin Mu stared.

"...What?"

"Uh..." Little Shrubby slowly pointed one paw toward Xiao Yin. "Is she..."

He hesitated before finally saying it. "...drunk?"

Lin Mu raised an eyebrow. "Drunk?"

He quickly looked toward Xiao Yang. And sure enough... The other serpent had begun swaying too. His body curved left, then right and then left again. His tongue flicked lazily through the air.

"Hiss..."

"Hehehe..."

The hissing somehow sounded cheerful.

"Oh no," Lin Mu muttered.

The twins began speaking. Or at least attempting to.

"You know..." Xiao Yin declared proudly. "The moon..."

She stared upward. "...is upside down."

Xiao Yang immediately nodded with complete seriousness. "It always was."

"We’re the ones upside down." The two burst into more strange hissing laughter.

Little Shrubby slowly covered his face with one paw. "They’re definitely drunk."

Lin Mu could only sigh. "So the side effect is intoxication."

Before either serpent could react further, both suddenly looked toward the crystal again. Their eyes practically sparkled.

"More!" Xiao Yin cried happily. "I want another bite!"

"It was tasty!" Xiao Yang agreed enthusiastically.

They immediately slithered toward the crystal. Lin Mu reacted instantly. With a simple wave of his hand, the massive crystal disappeared back into his storage ring. Both serpents froze and their jaws remained open.

Then they looked around in confusion. "It disappeared..."

"My food..." Xiao Yin turned pitiful eyes toward Lin Mu. "Master..."

"No fair..."

"I wanted more." Xiao Yang nodded repeatedly. "Just one more bite."

"A tiny bite."

"A really tiny one."

Lin Mu crossed his arms. "No."

Both serpents drooped visibly. "Aww..."

"You can eat it occasionally," Lin Mu explained patiently. "You cannot keep eating it endlessly."

The twins stared at him with mournful expressions.

"What if..." Xiao Yin asked hopefully. "...we promise to chew slowly?"

Lin Mu nearly laughed. "That isn’t the issue."

He crouched down before gently rubbing both their heads. "If you keep eating it like this, we’ll eventually run out."

The twins blinked and that argument actually reached them.

Their intoxicated minds slowly processed the information. "...Run out?"

"No more snacks?"

Lin Mu nodded. "So if you want to enjoy it again later, we need to save it."

The twins became surprisingly serious.

"Master..." After nearly half a minute, Xiao Yang nodded solemnly. "...is wise."

"We save snacks." Xiao Yin also nodded. "Future snacks."

Lin Mu finally relaxed. Thankfully that seemed to work.

Then Xiao Yang suddenly lifted his head. "I know!"

He grinned. "Let’s play!"

Before anyone could respond, he shot away across the barren ground like a white arrow.

Xiao Yin gasped happily. "Wait for me!"

She immediately chased after him. Lin Mu suddenly had a very bad feeling. "So much for calming them down..."

Little Shrubby sighed. "I think we’re about to have problems."

The words had barely left his mouth, when...

BOOM!

An enormous crashing sound echoed through Emperor Rock. The ground shook violently as dust exploded hundreds of meters into the sky. Lin Mu and Little Shrubby immediately rushed toward the source.

When the dust finally settled, the scene before them left Lin Mu completely speechless. Xiao Yin lay upside down inside a freshly carved trench. The long groove stretched nearly a hundred meters across the barren plain.

Apparently she had attempted to make a sharp turn while running at full speed. Instead, she had forgotten to actually turn and had simply plowed straight into the ground.

Her tail still twitched happily.

"Hiss..."

"Hehehe..."

"I’m flying..."

Lin Mu pinched the bridge of his nose. "You crashed."

Xiao Yin blinked slowly. "I did?"

She looked around. "Oh."

Another fit of hissing laughter escaped her. "That explains why the ground hit me."

Little Shrubby quietly stared at the massive trench then at Xiao Yin and then at Lin Mu.

"...Yeah."

"They’re definitely drunk."
