Chapter 3878: Intervention From High Elder

Chapter 3878: Intervention From High Elder

Lin Mu remained slumped against the stone wall, his eyes closed while his breathing became deliberately uneven. His mind, however, was moving rapidly.

’Now what?’

The situation had become far more troublesome than he had anticipated. When he first entered the vault, he had expected to be questioned or perhaps escorted outside. At worst, he thought someone might notify one of the Wild Peak Elders before asking him to explain how he had entered.

Instead, the very first person he met had immediately resorted to violence.

Lin Mu still found it difficult to understand.

The Wild Peak disciples had been so straightforward that he had subconsciously assumed everyone attached to the Peak shared a similar temperament. Apparently that assumption had been completely wrong.

The man had skipped every reasonable step and gone directly to attacking. Even after seeing Little Bull wearing Wild Peak robes, hearing his explanation and confirming he possessed a disciple token, he still attacked.

None of it had mattered as the man had already reached his conclusion. And while the aggression was common in the Wild Peak members, and matched their punch first ask questions later attitude, this was going in a totally different way than Lin Mu had predicted.

Lin Mu quietly considered whether he should remain unconscious a little longer. ’Perhaps he’ll calm down.’

Xukong sounded doubtful. ’From what I have observed, this one does not appear particularly patient.’

’I know.’ Lin Mu kept his body completely limp.

Little Bull’s current appearance certainly helped sell the illusion. His robes had become little more than torn rags and dust covered almost every inch of his body. Several pieces of broken stone even remained tangled within his hair.

His face was streaked with dirt after repeatedly crashing into the cavern floor and from a distance, he looked thoroughly miserable. Internally, Lin Mu remained completely unharmed. The Fourth Tribulation attack had certainly been powerful.

It simply had not been powerful enough.

Peak Head Mountain Roar’s assessment had been entirely accurate. Little Bull’s body possessed physical strength that already rivaled Immortals. The only thing that had truly suffered was his clothing.

’I’ll wait.’ Lin Mu slowed his breathing further. ’Someone has to notice the disturbance.’

The treasury had echoed with enough impacts to shake half the mountain.

’Surely somebody would investigate.’ Lin Mu hoped.

A few seconds later, footsteps approached while Lin Mu resisted the urge to open his eyes. The mysterious man stopped several steps away and kept silent. Then Lin Mu felt it, Immortal Sense.

The man’s perception swept over Little Bull’s body washing over his muscles, bones and every organ. Lin Mu allowed the scan to proceed naturally as there was little point trying to conceal anything now.

The next moment, the man let out a cold snort. "Pretending to be unconscious?"

Lin Mu almost twitched.

"Certainly a scheme to launch a sneak attack." The man added.

Lin Mu was genuinely speechless. ’...How does he keep reaching these conclusions?’

Even Xukong seemed mildly impressed. ’His imagination is remarkable.’

Lin Mu still remained motionless hoping that the man would merely restrain him.

Unfortunately... The pressure in the treasury suddenly changed.

Lin Mu instantly sensed Immortal Essence gathering. His eyes remained closed but his senses became fully alert. The amount of Immortal Essence continued increasing and it condensed around the man’s right hand.

The energy possessed a brilliant crimson glow and even through closed eyelids, Lin Mu could perceive the intense light.

His instincts screamed danger, real danger.

Lin Mu’s thoughts immediately sharpened. ’This isn’t another ordinary palm strike.’

The amount of Immortal Essence exceeded everything the man had displayed previously. The killing intent accompanying it was even clearer. It no longer resembled an attempt to subdue an intruder.

This attack intended to kill.

A moment later the man’s cold voice echoed through the treasury. "Guillotine Palm."

Lin Mu’s eyes snapped open as his pupils contracted and witnessed the crimson palm descend toward his neck. The condensed Immortal Essence had sharpened into something resembling an enormous invisible blade.

Lin Mu could tell immediately that this attack would happily separate his head from his shoulders if he was a normal disciple.

’Crap.’ Lin Mu’s fingers slowly flexed and Vitality instinctively gathered within them.

He knew that if it was necessary... He would retaliate.

There was no other option. His disguise would be lost either way, if the attack separated his head, or didn’t.

The distance rapidly closed.

Five inches... four... then three...

Lin Mu prepared himself.

But just as it was an inch away, a thunderous roar exploded throughout the treasury.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING!" The familiar voice echoed so loudly that even the protective formations flickered.

Lin Mu immediately recognized it and relief spread through him.

’High Elder Shatter Peak.’ Before the crimson palm could descend another inch, a massive figure appeared between them.

A large hand reached forward.

CLAMP!

High Elder Shatter Peak caught the descending wrist with absolute precision causing the crimson Immortal Essence to disperse violently. The attack never reached Little Bull which made the mysterious man’s eyes widen.

"You!"

For the first time since Lin Mu had met him, genuine surprise appeared upon his face.

"What is the meaning of this, High Elder Shatter Peak?" His tone remained respectful only in the most technical sense.

But the hostility remained obvious.

Seeing that, High Elder Shatter Peak’s expression had become frighteningly dark and his grip tightened such that the surrounding air groaned.

"I should be asking you that, Taegong." His deep voice carried restrained anger.

Lin Mu quietly relaxed.

Since High Elder Shatter Peak had arrived, the situation would hopefully become much easier to explain. Little Bull slowly sat up while dust immediately fell from his hair and several broken stones rolled off his shoulders.

"High Elder!" His voice sounded genuinely relieved.

High Elder Shatter Peak quickly looked toward him. The enormous Elder carefully examined Little Bull’s current appearance and soon his expression became even darker. Little Bull’s robes barely deserved to be called robes anymore.
