Chapter 3908: Making Them Submit!

Chapter 3908: Making Them Submit!

Lin Mu’s Immortal Sense carefully examined every fluctuation as the strange energy certainly possessed unusual characteristics. It contained traces of vitality, some soul fluctuations and a bit of formation energy as well.

Several other components merged together in an unfamiliar manner.

Even so, his instincts remained calm. His cultivation experience had saved his life countless times. And whenever genuine danger approached, his body always warned him. This time though there was nothing.

The perceived threat remained astonishingly low.

’Weak.’ That single conclusion surfaced once again.

Even so Lin Mu never underestimated unknown techniques. He shifted sideways and the wisp immediately altered direction. It pursued him with surprising agility but Lin Mu stepped again.

The dark serpent curved sharply through the air as it refused to lose its target.

"So it tracks." He quietly noted.

The wisp suddenly accelerated and its speed increased several times over. And before Lin Mu bothered moving again, it struck.

SHUA!

The dark energy passed directly through his chest.

Seeing this, the old man immediately burst into hysterical laughter.

"You’ll witness it now!" His cracked voice echoed triumphantly. "The Deity’s judgment!"

Several prisoners looked toward Lin Mu with renewed hope. They had witnessed this countless times before. Anyone rejected by the Deity never ended well. Their terrified expressions gradually shifted toward anticipation.

One heartbeat passed, then another, but nothing happened. Lin Mu slowly looked down at his own chest and saw that there was no wound and no pain could be felt. He quietly extended his Immortal Sense inward.

The strange energy indeed existed within his body.

It had successfully entered and now it was searching. Like a starving predator, the energy quickly discovered Lin Mu’s immense vitality. And almost immediately, it surged toward it before an invisible draining force erupted.

It attempted to seize his life force... attempted.

That proved to be the important word as the Abyssal Horizon Veil Seal already permeated Lin Mu’s body. The ancient concealment technique completely enveloped every trace of his true cultivation.

His vitality naturally remained protected alongside everything else. The invading energy repeatedly battered against that invisible barrier, but every attempt failed. It could sense the vitality but it simply could not reach it.

The difference in quality proved overwhelming.

Lin Mu quietly watched the futile struggle. "So that’s your method."

Unable to obtain his vitality, the strange energy immediately changed targets. It abandoned his body entirely and instead it rushed deeper. It went toward the Soul Space, toward the true core of every cultivator.

Lin Mu remained completely unconcerned as the moment the dark energy entered his Soul Space, it encountered something far greater than itself.

The Litany of the Verdant Forests.

Gentle green light quietly illuminated the entire Soul Space. The vast protective barrier surrounding Lin Mu’s soul calmly awaited the intruder and the dark wisp charged directly toward it.

The collision lasted less than an instant.

Lin Mu remembered another attack.

’The Withered Spirit Daoist.’ A genuine soul assault from a terrifying ancient expert.

Even that attack had ultimately failed against the Litany’s protection. Compared to such an opponent, this strange wisp resembled little more than dust carried by the wind. The barrier responded automatically as a single pulse spread outward.

It was pure and gentle being completely devoid of hostility. But the moment it touched the invading energy, the dark wisp shattered. There was no resistance or even an inkling of struggle as it simply dissolved into countless fragments before disappearing completely.

The green barrier quietly settled once again, as though nothing had happened.

Outside the change proved immediate. The dark mist surrounding Lin Mu suddenly dispersed and the remaining crimson and yellow particles vanished into empty air. The connection between the wisp and the crystal skull abruptly ended.

The old man’s laughter froze while his mouth remained open.

His single eye widened until it almost bulged from its socket.

"How..." His voice barely emerged. "Impossible..."

Several nearby prisoners stared blankly while others looked toward the crystal skull.

But it simply stood there like an inanimate object. The Deity had answered, the Deity had attacked, and the Deity had failed. Lin Mu slowly lifted his head and for the first time since revealing himself, he spoke.

His calm voice carried easily across the silent summit. "Even this deity of yours seems to be weak."

Every word struck the old man harder than any punch and his face immediately twisted with fury.

"You..." The old man screamed. "Blasphemer!"

His remaining reason disappeared and with a furious roar, he charged.

Or rather... He attempted to charge.

His bone peg struck the ground repeatedly while his withered body lurched forward. To ordinary prisoners, his speed still appeared impressive, but to Lin Mu he looked painfully slow.

WHOOSH

Before the old man completed even two steps, Lin Mu had already vanished. The prisoners blinked and in the next moment, Lin Mu stood beside the old man.

SHUA

His right leg calmly swept outward.

Crack!

The crude bone peg shattered into dozens of fragments and the old man’s balance instantly disappeared. His body pitched sideways before crashing face first onto the rocky summit.

THUD

Sharp stones scraped across his weathered skin as fresh cuts immediately appeared upon his forehead and cheeks. Blood slowly flowed downward, and the old man groaned while desperately trying to push himself upright.

His missing leg offered no support whatsoever.

Lin Mu quietly looked down at him before he slowly turned toward the remaining prisoners. His gaze swept across every frightened face as silence dominated the summit. Finally, Lin Mu spoke once more.

"Anyone else wants to try?" His tone carried unmistakable mockery.

The prisoners instinctively lowered their weapons as several took another hesitant step backward. But nobody answered right away as the silence stretched for several long seconds. Then, one prisoner suddenly collapsed onto both knees.

THUD THUD

His forehead slammed against the stone.

"I SUBMIT!" The desperate cry echoed across the bone covered mound.

Like a dam finally breaking, the remaining prisoners felt the first crack appear in the fear that had frozen them. They had witnessed their greatest source of hope fail before their eyes. And now, only the man standing before them remained.
