Chapter 3948: Inspecting The Three Items

Chapter 3948: Inspecting The Three Items

Lin Mu understood immediately. "If I take it outside, it will collapse."

"Most likely. The robes have adapted to the compressed spatial environment. Their current structure is being supported by the surrounding dimensional pressure. Remove them from this space and the equilibrium will disappear." Xukong explained.

"So it really is like gas inside a cylinder." Lin Mu understood.

"That comparison is crude, but useful."

Lin Mu smiled hearing that and spent another hour examining the white space. He checked the walls, the floor, the area surrounding the robes and then he checked the book. Finally, he studied the jade token.

He searched for hidden fluctuations, spatial distortions, dimensional seams, and even irregularities in the surrounding white void. But nothing revealed another layer. After an hour, Lin Mu finally accepted that there was no obvious additional structure waiting for him.

"Looks like this is all there is for now." Lin Mu reckoned.

"For now," Xukong emphasized.

Lin Mu nodded as he had no intention of forcing the issue.

The Dual Dimensional Vacuum Compression Art was already dangerous enough. If another layer existed and he had failed to identify its entrance, blindly disturbing the space would be foolish.

He turned toward the three objects.

The old robes could wait as they were likely not as important. The book was probably the most important object here, yet Lin Mu decided to inspect the jade token first. There was a reason for that.

The token clearly possessed the aura of an immortal tool.

It was small enough to fit between two fingers, and its surface was smooth despite its immense age. A strange crest was carved into its front. The symbol resembled a complicated geometric formation surrounding a tiny polyhedral gemstone.

Lin Mu immediately recognized the general style. It was related to the crest he had been searching for. The symbol of the Virtuous Calamity Daoist.

His eyes narrowed. "Could this be some kind of identification token?"

"Perhaps," Xukong replied. "Examine it first."

Lin Mu picked up the token and the instant his fingers touched it, a faint vibration passed through his hand. His expression changed as there was a very subtle reaction that might be almost imperceptible to most cultivators but not to Lin Mu.

"There is definitely something there." Lin Mu immediately poured a trace of immortal sense into the token.

Buzz!

A faint fluctuation spread through the white space as Lin Mu’s eyes narrowed further. The jade token had responded to his immortal sense so he carefully increased the amount. The token suddenly released a tiny pulse.

SHUA

The pulse spread through the surrounding space and disappeared while Lin Mu remained still.

"Interesting." He did not immediately pour more energy into it.

Instead, he carefully examined the token’s internal structure. There were formations inside and several of them were incredibly old. Some had become damaged over time while others were still functioning.

Lin Mu’s expression gradually became more focused. This was clearly an immortal tool. Yet it was an extremely strange one. It did not appear to have an offensive function and it did not seem designed for defense either.

Instead, its formations were concentrated around identification, spatial resonance, and communication.

Lin Mu’s eyes brightened. "A key?"

Xukong remained silent for several breaths. "That is possible."

Lin Mu looked at the token again. "If it is a key, then what does it open?"

That question immediately brought his thoughts back to the white space. Perhaps the token was not meant to activate anything here. Perhaps it was meant to open something outside. Or perhaps it could interact with another formation.

Lin Mu’s mind quickly connected the possibilities. ’The formation outside, the compressed space, the jade token, the ancient robes and even the book. Everything has been deliberately left together.’

The creator had clearly expected someone to eventually reach this location.

Lin Mu turned the token over and the back contained another set of markings.

His eyes sharpened. "This is a sequence."

He recognized several of the marks as spatial runes. They were arranged in a pattern that resembled an incomplete formation. Lin Mu carefully memorized it. Then he examined the token again.

"Senior, this thing might be more important than I initially thought."

"Most likely."

Lin Mu smiled faintly as his curiosity had already reached its peak.

He had entered the Mad Demon Depths searching for the legacy of the Virtuous Calamity Daoist and had uncovered a hidden formation connected to the Wild Peak before he had passed through a bizarre dimensional structure. And now he held an ancient jade token that seemed to possess a spatial function.

The trail was becoming clearer.

Lin Mu slowly looked toward the ancient book. "Then let’s see what the book has to say."

He placed the jade token carefully beside him and his gaze settled on the worn cover. For some reason, he felt that the moment he opened it, he would finally begin learning what had truly been hidden inside this place.

Lin Mu reached out and carefully picked up the ancient book.

For several breaths, he simply held it in his hands without opening it. The book looked incredibly ordinary compared to everything else he had encountered inside the compressed space.

Its cover was old and slightly faded, while the edges of the pages had yellowed with age. There were no obvious formations engraved upon the surface, no spiritual fluctuations leaking from it, and no strange aura surrounding the material.

If he had encountered such a book lying somewhere in the outside world, he might have assumed it was an ordinary mortal record that had survived for an absurdly long time. Yet after everything he had discovered here, Lin Mu refused to believe that this book was ordinary.

He gently opened the cover and saw that the first page was blank. Lin Mu stared at it for a moment before turning to the next page.

"Blank." Lin Mu saw and turned the page seeing that the third page was also blank.

His brows slowly furrowed as he continued turning the pages. He did so carefully at first, checking each one before moving on, but after several dozen pages his movements became faster.

Page after page revealed nothing. There were no words, no diagrams, no hidden markings and no obvious formations. Even when Lin Mu reached the final page, there was nothing written upon it.
