Chapter 4997: You Know MeEditor: Misty Cloud Translations
"Alright."
Yue’er took the crystal core, examined it briefly, then tucked it away. She followed him to the great tree to investigate. Finally, they spotted a tiny hole in one side of the trunk. A pile of leaves covered something inside. When they parted the leaves, they found a collection of strange and peculiar objects.
"Senior Brother, where did that monkey get these things? Are these shiny things beads?" Yue’er pulled out a fist-sized bead radiating a layer of spiritual energy glow, unsure what it was.
Hao’er stepped forward to look. Seeing mostly glowing or colorful stones and similar items, he said, "Pack these things up and take them with us."
"Alright." Yue’er, being small, climbed inside and gathered everything up.
The two guard then hurried forward. "Young Master Chen, perhaps we should head back first! They might already be preparing food over there." Both secretly wiped away sweat, deeply worried about venturing further in.
Hearing this, Hao’er looked at Muchen and Muyue and asked, "Are you hungry?"
"Not hungry." They shook their heads. They had food with them, so they genuinely hadn’t felt hungry.
"Well then, perhaps we should go see if Miss Mi’er has gathered any ingredients?" another Jingwei suggested. He felt it best to lead them back. Firstly, their combat prowess was somewhat intimidating. Secondly, he feared they might venture deeper and encounter something they couldn’t handle. If anything happened, ten of them wouldn’t be enough to make up for it.
"Then let’s head back first!" Muchen spoke up, saying, "The monkey carcasses here might attract other fierce beasts soon. To spare them worry, we should return first!"
"Mhm." Hao’er nodded before following the two guard members toward Mi’er, intending to help her search for ingredients.
Song Lingbo gazed at the entire tiger pelt he’d stripped off, a smile spreading across his face. He was about to pack it away, planning to process it at home before presenting it to his wife, when a voice suddenly reached his ears.
"Sir, this tiger pelt is exceptionally well-skinned. Might I inquire if you would consider selling it to me?"
Recognizing the voice, Song Lingbo looked up to see a group of about forty or fifty people approaching from the distance. The middle-aged man leading them was staring intently at the tiger pelt in his hands.
"Sorry, I need this pelt myself," Song Lingbo replied, tucking it away. He then instructed the nearby Jingwei guards, "Prepare the tiger meat. Simmer the bones for soup. We’ll have this Scarlet Earth Tiger for lunch."
"Yes, sir." The guards responded respectfully. After glancing at the approaching group, they got to work.
The Song family members, clad in plain, unremarkable travel robes—their sole advantage being their dirt-resistant nature—carried no distinctive insignia. After a brief appraisal, the group exchanged puzzled glances.
"Hey! Who are you lot? Pretty bold, aren’t you? Just a handful of people daring to venture into this forest?" a man in his thirties called out from behind.
Song Lingbo watched the guard birds at work, needing no further prompting. He turned his gaze to the group standing not far away, fixing his eyes on the middle-aged man leading them. "With Captain Chai’s abilities, surely he doesn’t lack for meat? What’s the point of staring at us like that?"
Hearing this, the middle-aged leader—who had been about to order his men forward—flinched slightly. He stared at the enigmatic middle-aged man before him, pondered for a moment, then asked, "You know me?"
