Chapter 5031: Bid Farewell
Finally, after the meal ended and everyone dispersed, several clan elders hurriedly stopped Song Lingbo.
“Lingbo! What on earth is going on? Why did you come back only to dive straight into the kitchen and start cooking? The matter between our Song family and the Cheng family—it’s far from over! As the head of the household, how can you not be worried at all?” one elder said with concern.
“Indeed! With such a major crisis upon us, you still find time to eat and drink?” another elder shook his head. His mind was so preoccupied with worry that even though Song Lingbo had prepared tonight’s feast, he couldn’t bring himself to eat.
Hearing this, Song Lingbo replied, “Elders, there’s no need for worry. The Cheng family likely won’t dare come again. Even if they do, there’s no cause for concern. Put this matter out of your minds and return to rest. Trust me—the manor will be fine.” With that, he turned and left without waiting for further discussion.
Several days later, at dawn, Ke Meng arrived outside the main courtyard and addressed the maidservant at the gate: ” Please inform the Madam that Ke Meng has come to take her leave.”
The maid went inside to report. Lady Song came to the courtyard and had Ke Meng brought in. When she entered, Ke Meng wore a veil over her face, and her white robe had been replaced with a slightly darker beige gown. She looked like herself, yet there was something different about her.
“Have your wounds healed, Miss Ke?” Lady Song inquired gently.
“Thank you for your concern, Madam. My injuries have fully recovered. Having stayed in your residence for so long, I have come today to take my leave. I am deeply grateful for the shelter you provided during my convalescence.” She bowed respectfully, her gratitude sincere.
Upon hearing this, Lady Song nodded and inquired, “You have no home now. What are your plans for the future?”
“The world is vast,” she replied softly. “There will always be a place for me to call home. There is no need for you to worry about Ke Meng.” She added, “Ke Meng wishes to bid farewell to Lady Xuanyuan. Might you kindly escort her there?”
Lady Xuanyuan had also been kind to her. Now that she was leaving, it was only proper to bid farewell.
“Very well. I was just about to go myself. You may accompany me!” Lady Song said, leading her towards the courtyard where Fengjiu and the children resided.
Early that morning, the three children had risen and were practicing their boxing in the courtyard. Feng Jiu sat nearby watching, occasionally offering guidance, while Mi’er chatted with her.
When Mi’er spotted her mother approaching, she sprang to her feet, running toward her with a beaming smile. Taking her hand, she led her into the courtyard. “Mother, why have you come?”
Then, glancing at Ke Meng beside her, she called out cheerfully, “Miss Ke has come too!”
“Miss Song,” Ke Meng nodded briefly in her direction.
“Miss Ke, why are you still wearing a veil? Could it be you’re not quite well yet?” Mi’er asked. She had been hoping to see what Ke Meng actually looked like, but both times she’d met her, Ke Meng had been veiled.
Ke Meng smiled. Though the veil hid her faint smile, the slight curve of her eyes revealed her amusement.
“I’ve fully recovered. I came today to bid farewell to Lady Xuanyuan.” She looked toward the woman in green seated at the stone table.
At that moment, Lady Song interjected, “Lady Xuanyuan, Miss Ke says she must depart and has asked me to bring her to bid you farewell.”
“Hmm.” Feng Jiu responded indifferently, her gaze shifting to Ke Meng.
“Ah? You’re leaving already?” Mi’er looked at her in surprise.
