Chapter 6111 Strange

Chapter 6111 Strange

Long Chen stealthily followed the devil qi. Once he passed over some mountains, he saw a mass of devil creatures charging forward crazily. Their eyes were bloodshot, and their devil runes blazed intensely.

“They’re all Divine Emperor devil creatures... and completely consumed by bloodlust,” Long Chen muttered, frowning.

He was very familiar with devil beast tides. In any given territory, if the population of devil beasts exceeded a certain limit, a tide would be triggered.

It was like a pack of rabid dogs. One went mad, bit another, and soon the whole pack turned savage.

However, contrary to rabid dogs, devil beasts didn’t need to bite each other. Their auras alone could infect each other, plunging them all into insanity.

In the end, they formed a devil beast tide, causing a great deal of harm to the humans in the vicinity. Those devil beasts had destroyed many cities in the past.

Worse, once they tasted human flesh, they became even more ferocious—more ravenous. Wherever they passed, not even weeds remained.

However, this was Long Chen’s first time seeing a devil creature tide. Although these devil creatures looked crazy, they lined up in an orderly fashion, not attacking or disturbing each other. It was like something was guiding them.

“There’s a problem...”

Long Chen smelled a scheme. A tide this disciplined wasn’t natural.

“Oh, so many devil creatures. They’re all good stuff—kill them!” Evilmoon shouted excitedly upon seeing them.

For it, these were not vile devil creatures. No, they were just a large supply of blood soul energy.

“No rush. I want to see what’s going on,” replied Long Chen.

Long Chen restrained Evilmoon and silently tailed the tide, curious about their numbers and target.

But the more he saw, the more shocked he grew.

The tide was endless, stretching beyond the horizon. Long Chen couldn’t even begin to estimate how many devil creatures there were.

Seeing so much prey, Evilmoon was practically vibrating with impatience. However, Long Chen kept it in check.

Suddenly, Long Chen saw a city up ahead. A handful of cultivators stood atop its walls, braced for impact.

Seeing those devil creatures, those cultivators turned pale. They immediately abandoned their city to save themselves.

In an instant, the devil creatures obliterated the city. After smelling the aura of the human race, they roared crazily and grew increasingly berserk.

It had been an old and crumbling city. But even if it were a fortified stronghold brimming with defensive formations, it wouldn’t have survived such a monstrous devil creature tide.

Thankfully, it seemed the city had been evacuated beforehand. Only a few cultivators had remained, perhaps underestimating the tide’s scale. Two stronger Sovereign Lords quickly issued the order to retreat.

Long Chen watched from afar. Their entire force numbered only a few tens of thousands: two first Heavenstage Sovereign Lords, ten ordinary Sovereign Lords, twenty thousand Divine Emperors, and the rest Human Emperors.

Of the Human Emperors, only a small number were Sovereign sprouts. The rest were just ordinary cultivators.

Had they been a moment slower, they would have been completely crushed by these devil creatures.

Normally, Divine Emperor devil creatures were little threat to Sovereign Lords—but not when they came in millions. Even first Heavenstage Sovereign Lords would be torn apart if surrounded.

The devil creatures continued to charge forward, like a tsunami reaching the shore. All of heaven and earth quivered beneath their feet.

“Oh? The aura of the devil creatures is affecting each other. It almost seems like a formation.”

Long Chen was surprised. Though devil creatures lacked intelligence, their berserk energy was resonating and merging.

He continued following them from a safe distance. He wanted to know where they were headed.

Soon, another city came into view. Experts were lined up along its walls, their faces grim.

“Run!” shouted the fleeing expert from the first city.

This second city was slightly larger and a bit better preserved—but only just. It wouldn’t be able to withstand this tide either.

Five first Heavenstage Sovereign Lords stood atop the city gates. Upon hearing the warning, they hesitated, clearly unwilling to abandon their home.

But when their eyes landed on the endless flood of devil creatures behind the experts from the first city, their expressions changed. They gritted their teeth and retreated—all except for one elder.

“Run!”

The first city’s experts shouted when they saw that elder remaining on the city gates, refusing to leave.

“You go. I was born here. I grew up here. I won’t let Clear Jade City be destroyed without a price,” said the elder, his eyes locked on the oncoming horde with a fierce glint burning within them.

“City lord!”

“Go!” the elder roared. “Warriors of the Four Cardinal Alliance, the future of the human race rests on you!”

As the devil creatures crashed into the city, the elder slowly rose into the sky above the city.

“City lord!”

The fleeing experts wept and shouted for him.

“Die, you animals!”

The elder roared and crushed a jade plate in his hand.

BOOM!

A heaven-shaking explosion tore through the land. The elder had detonated the city’s core formations, sacrificing himself to take as many devil creatures down with him as possible.

“City lord, rest in peace. We will avenge you!” one elder choked back tears and led the others onward.

“City lord...”

But then they froze.

A figure stood in front of them. It was the city lord—the very one who had just detonated the city.

By all logic, the blast should have vaporized him. After all, it was equivalent to the self-detonation of a second Heavenstage Sovereign Lord. No one should have survived.

And yet, here he was, alive and well. In fact, even the city lord was dumbfounded.

Just as the explosion went off, countless flower petals appeared around him, wrapping him in a cocoon of light and shielding him from the blast. Then, with a shove, the petals flung him forward, placing him directly in front of the retreating group.

The city lord looked at his hands in disbelief. “I’m still alive?”

“Run!”

Before he could question it further, the others grabbed him and resumed their retreat.

...

“All I did was take a bite, and I had to save that old man too?” Evilmoon grumbled.

The explosion had taken out millions of devil creatures. But compared to the sheer number that remained, it was barely a scratch.

Long Chen ignored Evilmoon’s complaints and continued following the tide.

Several hours later, a towering, majestic city appeared on the horizon.

“So this... is their true target.”

Long Chen narrowed his eyes and quickened his pace, heading straight for it.
